Need some easy decorating ideas for a Master Bedroom?

Q. We have an older four poster oak bedroom set-its sturdy and well made and I just cant bring myself to get rid of it. I would really love to spice up my bedroom decor but cant figure out what would go well with the brown oak "country style" bedroom set. Im more into a contemporary or eclectic look now and I need help with some options...thanks.

A. I had a Lane bedroom set. It was solid oak and gorgeous. It had a canopy bed, triple dresser, armoire and two nightstands. I had that set for at least 30 years and it looked like new.

But times and tastes change and I wanted something more modern or at least "different".

Trust me, nothing you do to that "country style" set is going to satisfy you if your taste has changed. Bite the bullet and let it go. I sold my old set reasonably to someone that loved it as much as I did when it was new so I knew it went to a good home.

I then bought a new set that is just what I wanted at this point in my life. I don't go for the "sturdy, well made" (translated "really expensive") stuff anymore (I'm not talking about buying junk either, I got my new set at Ashley) because then you have it forever and get tired of it. If you take good care of whatever you buy it will last you for as long as you love it. Then, when you don't "love it" anymore you won't feel so bad to let it go.

Life is short, you deserve to have what makes you happy today!!

Edited: I work for a store that sells furniture wholesale and I update their catalogs. Believe me when I tell you that if you paint the "country" furniture black, it's going to look like black "country" furniture (I see hundreds of sets of black "country" furniture). Country is country is country. If you try to put modern stuff in, on and around your "country" stuff, it's going to scream "she's trying not to look country, but it's country with modern stuff". It won't go. I had country decorating in my home. My husband bought me a baby grand piano. When they bought it in and set it down amidst my "country" stuff, you could almost hear the piano saying "What's all this stuff?" I had to change my decor to go with the piano (much more sophistocated victorian). Modern stuff has clean lines and there is no way to make country stuff look modern.

I'll say it again, life is short, get what you really want and enjoy it.

What are some inexpensive ideas for decorating my room?
Q. I'm fourteen and looking for some cool ideas.

A. Take into consideration 3 things:

- Favorite colors
- Style (ultra-feminine, contemporary, funky, classical, etc.)
- Interests and hobbies

For instance, let's assume you love the color purple, you like modern/contemporary style, and you play the guitar. You would paint your walls a soft lilac or lavendar (avoid dark, garish colors), and bring in deeper grape or plum accents. You would select bedspreads or comforters that have a clean, modern feel, then select photos (maybe black and white) or favorite guitarists and have them matted with purple, enclosed in a black or dark wooden frame.

By remembering C.S.I. (color, style, interests), you will be well on your way to finding the perfect look for your room.

We have a large billiard room in our house that needed decorating. My husband and I both love the color red, and we love to travel. Our walls are in a soft oatmeal color, but we've brought in red accents (the felt on the pool table, decorative pieces, etc.). We have also framed and mounted pictures and collectables from our travels. It gives the room a unique and interesting style that works for us. Ultimately, you are aiming to please yourself, because it's your room.

Begin by visiting a website like Behr Paint Colors: http://paintcolorsguide.com/result.php?Keywords=Paint%20Colors and select a color that you like. Again, I would avoid very dark or garish colors that will make a room seem claustrophobic. Also, paint you room with a satin or flat finish (avoid high gloss finishes in a bedroom).

Enjoy your project!

How to decorate small room?
Q. Hi guys,

I just moved in to a house (will only be here a year) but my room is pretty small. Heck, perhaps I would consider it tiny.

It should be around 100 sq ft.

I have a Full Bed, and am planning to purchase a new desk.

Are there any ideas as to what I could do to make the room look a tad more spacious and at the same time a contemporary yet clean bedroom that will also serve as a study area.

I really enjoy black and white photography, but I don't know how frames on the wall will make my room look more spacious.

A. Well black and white photos always give a room a clean yet nice look. I would paint the walls a light color. Not too light, then it will make your space feel cold. I would reccomend staying away from blue colors. I would go with a light green. That will make the room look much bigger than it really is. But it wouldn't really complement your black and white photos. A color that would compliment them is a red. I wouldn't go too dark on the red, but dark enough to compliment the photo's. It will give the room a larger feel, not by much, but it will really make a difference. It will make it very modern. Also it will be a good warm feeling in the room while using the study area!

Hope this helps! ♥
