Bedroom ideas for me?

Zbor.

I'm 16 (and a girl) and I need to think of how to have my room re-decorated. At the minute i've got white walls with a tacky green carpet. My parents are willing to get new paint/carpets/items etc. Basically I want it based on these things: Bob Marley, Jamaica, Rastafarians and sunsets/beaches etc. What Ideas have you got that I could use? Like what colour walls? should I get wooden floor for a more beachy effect? please help!!!!
xx

Answer
California Kids make beautiful bedding and one particular pattern is called California Dreamin with surfboards and beachy design. You can get coordinated, hand painted drawer pulls to go with that bedding or to use alone. They come in many designs but the ones I am thinking of are the Maui Wowie Surf Board, Maui Wowie Shirt, or Maui Wowie Surf Van. These drawer pulls can also be used as curtain tie backs. They are a simple little touch that can give your room a neat look. Visit this website to see them.

DIY Teen Bedroom Ideas?

I have a very small room and white walls. I would like to have a room that shows my personality but I can't paint my walls because I live in base housing. Is there anything I can make to make my room more...me? I'm open to pretty much anything.

I run into this a lot. White walls are just a crime, I know. :(

Go get some canvasses (or large pieces of mdf or just about anything you can paint on if you can't afford canvasses) and paint them in one or more solid colors that you wish you could put on your walls.

I did one room where we painted HUGE circles in various sizes of huge, in the colors she would have put on her walls. We hung those on her walls and it was beautiful! We found some little round mirrors and mixed those in between some of the circles.

You could do the same thing or use squares as I mentioned above. You would be surprised how "hanging" the color on the wall is actually a lot like the effect of painting the walls, but much more portable and impermanent. When your color taste changes, you can ditch them or just repaint them!

Also, bring your colors together with an area rug, coordinating linens (sheets/comforter), pillows and curtains. Curtains give a HUGE impact! I've been doing this since I was 19 and every time I hang window treatments I am still amazed at what a difference they make.

Most teens seem to LOVE photos too. They make great wall treatments, so this is good. I had a girl make "clothes lines" across one wall of her room where she used decorative little clothes pins and tacks to hang pictures. It was great because it was MUCH cheaper than framing and she could switch them out super easy. You could use string, or wire or cute ribbon, depending on the look you are going for.

Hope this was helpful! :)
