Q. I'm doing a project for a summer interior design class, using decor from other countries and using different styles. What do interiors of regular living rooms and bedrooms look like in england? Basically, how do you all decorate and what's typically found in your bedrooms and living spaces? I know all the regular things, that might have been a silly question... But what would you call the style and colors?
Thanks so much for any help.

A. personally I like the Scandinavian style ... I've got wood laminate floor in maple (a pale wood colour), reasonably minimal furniture mostly in birch (another pale wood colour) ... I don't like dark wood colours because it feels too heavy and makes the rooms feel smaller ... where I differ from Scandinavian style is that I don't like their strong colours and fabric designs ... I go for wood rather than black or white or anything ... on the walls I've gone for pastel colours, pale pink, dusty pink, light green, pale lilac, but they're all colours rather than what I call non-colours of beige, grey, etc ... for pictures I've framed some of my own photos, plus my (very artistic) daughter's work ... have a look through the IKEA catalogue and you'll get an idea of what I mean http://ikeaeu.ecweb.is/09/mgb/
Tips on decorating my teenage bedroom?
Q. I really want to make my bedroom my favourite place ever. It's fairly small, I have a twin bed, big closet, white desk and white bookcase. My walls are a lilac purple, and I want to do something with the walls to make them less boring. I used to have a lot of posters but I dont like the look of it. I want my bedroom to be not childish and really cool, I like the idea of hanging Christmas lights.
A. I'm a teenager myself and have a very awesome room. Wallpaper is not very good for teenagers. Paint is better. I painted my room a blue-green color and my furniture is black. Bright blue and green is cool. If you really like a different color, though, then go for it! You should also have very modern furniture. My sister is 15 and she has a cool black chair for her desk. Pink is a really cool color for sheets, but make sure it matches your room. Try getting a small flat-screen TV if you don't have one already. If you want a more sophisticated look the you could do black and white. Like a nice black comforter and white walls with a sleek shiny desk or vanity.
How to decorate my bedroom around this bed?
Q. I want to have a really girly bedroom, and i was thinking about painting my room a lilac or a Tiffany box blue color. Then every thing else would be black and white. I was wondering if that would go good with the bed i picked out?

A. I like the bed. In fact, I owned one very similar for many years.
You say you want "girly" and tiffany blue, and I can't figure out why you want to put black into that. Without seeing what you've got, it just seems that it would be more girly without the black.
