Q. My walls are mint green. I'm wondering what colors would be the best as rugs, curtains, and various accent pieces. Perhaps light taupe, chocolate brown, or raspberry? Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
Thanks!
A. Mint green and raspberry pair beautifully together, and combined with chocolate brown and cream would look lovely and elegant. It's the sort of color combination I can see one of the sisters on "Downton Abbey" having in their late teens. On a color wheel colors that are directly across from one another are considered to be complimentary, and though mint green and raspberry aren't precisely opposite, they are close. I think you would need to use care to not overdo it with the raspberry, though. That soft shade of green combined with lively raspberry looks delicious on macarons, but might appear overwhelmingly sugary on a larger scale. Instead, I would use it as an accent color, pops of prettiness.
You could look for cream or white bedding, and then fold a raspberry coverlet over the end of the bed, or have accent pillows in that color. I'd probably opt for bedding like this: http://www.target.com/p/simply-shabby-chic-smocked-duvet-cover-set/-/A-10410342#prodSlot=medium_1_8&term=white%20duvet%20cover and then add two solid chocolate-colored pillows, and one raspberry.
Tip: if you're working on a budget you can use spray paint to create striking pieces without spending a lot. I live in a suite at school with a small living room area, and we wanted to make it appear larger and brighter by adding in a wall of mirrors. We bought mirrors of various sizes and shapes from a local thrift shop and made them look cohesive with one another by spray painting them all in the same jewel-toned shade. You could also spray paint art and photo frames, vases, lamp bases, and even small items like tissue-cover boxes. Another simple, refined way to incorporate the color would simply be to have two clear vases with fuchsia-colored flowers, or perhaps cherry blossoms on nightstands on either side of your bed. I would try to have just a handful of items in raspberry so they each stand out distinctly.
If you prefer for your drapes to block out a lot of light, you could look for ones that are a velvety chocolate, and then use raspberry sashes to tie them back. Ivory curtains would also be nice if you wanted more light. I'd decide on the rug based on whether you were using solid-colored bedding or one with a print. If you had solid bedding then a rug with a striped or floral pattern that wasn't garish would be appealing. I would avoid getting a lighter-colored rug unless you are diligent about never wearing shoes in your room or carrying food and drink items. One spill of hot chocolate or Crystal Light could ruin a gorgeous white rug in seconds.
Other options ~ An appealing, soothing palette would be to use analogous colors to mint green, such as soft blues. Red actually looks surprisingly fresh and non-Christmasy with that shade of green, so that's another option to consider. Pale pink and green are very pretty together, but if you use too much of them you room can resemble a nursery. I would primarily use white, and then add in a little pink.
Do a Google image search of "mint green bedrooms" and also look on sites like Decorpad, Pinterest, Apartment Therapy, and Houzz to gather more ideas.
Have fun decorating!

I need help re-decorating my room in the basement can you help please?
Q. Ok, so I need help re-decorating my room. I'm sick of the layout it has now and I need a new way of decorating it. So I'm going to do my best on describing my room.
I have half the basement my sister is supposed to have the other half but she moved out with a friend so now I use that spot to store stuff I don't really like anymore....anyway I have a twin sized bed, a craft table, a microwave, tv, a stand type of thing where I hold my trophies and porcelain dolls, a recliner, and my wardrobe (don't have a closet), my dresser, two bookshelves, and that's about it.
The room is basically a rectangle except it has a little pop out thing at the right far side, so that cuts that side off a little short.
I'm thinking of making and hanging up some strings of beads at the base of the steps also. Is that a good idea?? PLEASE HELP!!

A. Go on pinterest for cool ideas! Its soooo fun to look at! theres alot of diy projects. Other than that , just re arrange it with your bed in the middle of one wall, your wardrobe on the opposite wall at the end of your bed, Put your book case up on another wall, & put cool nick nacs on it. like pictures with friends and family. some of your dolls and cool artwork you can see on pinterest. Your crafting table you should put in the other room! it would make it alot easier for you to have a nice bedroom. :D paint the walls and add some of your touch into your room! Hope I helped :D
I'm redecorating my teenage girl bedroom and I need help?
Q. I am a teenage girl (13) and I'm moving into a bigger room. (It's like a mini-master bedroom,lol.)
I don't know the size of the bedroom but if it helps it has two windows and four walls.
I'm not buying new furniture except a desk and maybe seating.
I really want to decorate a room I will never outgrow till I move out.
Here are my questions:
1. What colors should I paint on the walls? (that matches everything)
2. What colors should I paint on the furniture? (that matches everything)
3. Are there any cute bedding out there? (preferably an inexpensive bed in a bag or quilt)
4. Are wall stickers recommended? List all of the pros and cons.
5. Are there any cool but cheap posters I could buy?
6. Are there any interesting area/accent rugs?
7. How can I organize my room?
8. Any other creative ways to decorate my room?
To make answering my question easier, I will tell you a little about myself.
I love animals especially dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses.
I am very passionate about writing stories.
I love to read, watch movies and TV shows, do art, and use the computer.
I am not necessarily a girly-girl but not a tomboy. (Though, I have more tomboy in me.)
I hate jewerly, makeup, and nail polish. (Dunno that would help with room makeovers.)
I am not into music, sports, and things like that.
I love my stuffed animals and I love candy =D
Thanks for answering and sorry if this is too long.

What is fun about choosing a neutral color is that you can add pops of color in pillows, bedspreads, lamps, through rugs etc.
Using color wheels are fun and you can get ideas here. Start with your neutral and use the wheel to show pops of color
