I need help decorating my room.?

Q. My boyfriend just got me a black canopy bed for my B-day so I want to change my room up a little bit. Currently I have tan curtains and bed set, My walls are a dull leafy green, and I have wood floors.( I don’t want to repaint ) I just need some advise on room themes and colors that would go well with a green room and black bed frame. I look forward to hearing your ideas. Thanks!

A. Don't know how old you are but here are some things that might look nice:

The tan curtains probably aren't doing anything good to the green walls. You could use white bedding and curtains and accent with pillows like these:

I think I'd splash in a little purple too:

Or you could go with a black, white and green theme:

Hope this gave you a few ideas. I think I'd change my comforter to white, curtains green, black, white striped, and add different patterns and colors of accent pillows (greens, purples, black and whites)
Good luck!

Decorating children's rooms?
Q. We're picking our lives up from New York City and moving to a house in rural Ireland... AH! I've never seen the house, but it was left to my partner when her parents died thirty years ago. It's a big, rustic stone house and among other challenges we're having, I simply have no idea how to decorate!!! We have four daughters, a six year old, two four year olds and a one year old - there is a bedroom for each, but the twins will share. What are your suggestions for decorating each room?? Should we try for a rustic, rural theme or just do what we and the girls would like? I just can't see a bright, polka-dotty bedroom in such an old stone house! Any ideas? Or shops? Or websites? And tips! Thanks so much!

A. Keep it simple and kind of elegant. Whenever I think of Ireland I think of castles and green, green, green! It really all depends on what your girls really like. You don't want them to sleep in a room they don't enjoy right? Good luck!

Unique teen girl room ideas?
Q. I'm 15 years old, and I just painted my room a pinkish color (more of a muted pinkish-brownish, not very bright). Also, I just got this bedspread http://m.jcpenney.com/mt/www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6E.aspx?GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=1a83250&DeptID=70753&CatID=78373&SO=0&Ne=4294957900+6+5+877+1031+1007+8+18+949&NOffset=2&pagesize=1&shopperType=G&N=4294939200&Nao=0&PSO=0&cmAMS_T=XGN3&cmAMS_C=MERCHA&cmAMS_Z=XGN3TOPOFRESULTS&CmCatId=EXTERNAL%7C78373&mscssid=6d8e30a72c5ee41a7a4da35483eeadfa9xMnVNoVza3WxMnVNoVza3o200B75E8EF55D16CB3384AF54503407A7BCC1112503&un_jtt_v_read_review=1

The look I'm going for is kind of a "matched,mix-matched" (if that makes any sense) I really like old vintage-y/ antique-y style. Oh, and this is kind of random but i'm a taylor swift fan and I don't know if you've ever heard her talking about her new place she just got but the way she describes it is similar to what I want my room to be: very relaxing, but kind of like a fairy tale land and I want it to be cozy.

So, now that i have the basic paint and bedspread done, I need some help on decoration ideas. I want some cool unique paintings or photo frames to hang up, or mirror ideas or something like that. If you have anything that you think would be cool (sorry it's not very specific) or know any cool places to get these types of things let me know. Thanks so much!

p.s. Unfortunately my room isn't very big so I don't want too much that would be overpowering.
By the way, I'm not made of money, so like most people, I would prefer inexpensive ideas. Thanks:)

A. hi! firstly, a great source of inspiration is ''because mine no longer exists'' a tumblr that basically consists of loads of teen bedroom pictures. seriously inspiring. some nice touches that would fit into your vintage/mix/match style are:
-wine crates as storage: find them on ebay. they can be quite expensive but you can also get cheaper ones. place them at random on the floor and fill with stuff-so the stuff kinda overflows in an untidy way (try clothes, books, cds, a collection of empty/used picture frames).try also old-fashioned suitcases

-line empty picture frames up against the wall: think an artist's studio. paint them to give them an ''antique'' finish or go one step further and get them at an auction-when considering auctions, flea markets, etc. look for information everywhere. often its hard to find such things or know when they are on or whatever but ask around, look online, etc. for info about antique markets, auctions, etc. often, stuff at auctions isn't that expensive

-lighting: try an old-fashioned lamp placed haphazardly on a pile of books. soft lighting is essential-try a cloth over your lamp or a large shade.

-others: curtains can be made from fabric yourself. be brave and look for instructions on sites like eHow. make your own cushions by stuffing fabric with existing cushions. maybe paint the fabric with fabric paint. get glass paint and draw on mirrors/windows. collect glass jars and hang them up from a string across your room. put tea-lights in and maybe paint the jars. rugs! can be expensive but look for sales and online. epic idea: blackboard paint! find it in homewares stores. i'm not sure, but i think its possible to get it in some different colours. then you can draw on your walls. alternatively, just get a washable marker (although chalk would be great with the whole vintage look). actually, you said you have already painted your room so you could try just painting a big board with blackboard paint and placing it leaned against the wall (avoid the school look by not hanging it on the wall)

Finally, try jumbletown.ie (not sure if it will be of use outside of ireland) and freecycle.com for free stuff.

btw, im decorating my room and you just need to let your creativity do its thing. forget about the perfect pottery barn catalogue-worthy bedroom, just go your own way. if you create a comfy, inspiring canvas for your creativity (just choose basics that you can add to) you can add your own touches as you go along. if you pick stuff up as you go along, you'll really get that mismatched look that you want. that is, dont go to pottery barn or wherever and buy ''accessories''. let the aesthetic of your room become itself by adding to it as you see stuff that inspires you and that you like :)
