A. It would be helpful if we had more information about what you want to do with your upstairs space, be it bedroom, living space, office or study space, ect. With that said, I will also say this, I personally love knotty pine, I think the grains and texture of the wood are beautiful (just my personal opinion) and I understand how wood paneled walls can be very dark and overwhelming.
For furniture pieces, you could try to use white or other painted pieces. Depending on the theme of your house or the theme you want upstairs, you could try shopping for antique, vintage, or primitive pieces. White-wash and other painted primitive pieces will bring a rustic, cottage-like feel to the room and will compliment the wood. White, or light colored pieces will also brighten up the space. Since it sounds like you do have so much wood, I would avoid natural wood furniture. To add color to the room, you can use fabrics: a bright sofa with various colored pillows and a throw, floral print bedding, again with pillows and a throw. You could also add a wall tapestry to cover up some of the wood without damaging it.
Hope some of these ideas will help you. You can probably search on some design websites to get a better idea of what you may want or other ways to decorate.

A. Your room is an expression of your personal style. You can get ideas from hgtv.com, but basically you want to do it in your favorite colors/ style. A rule of thumb is to keep the big pieces (walls, bedspread, curtain) fairly neutral and pop with some cool accent colors. I just did my 14 yr old son's room. We did a pale blue on the walls, cocoa leather curtains, and a cocoa bedspread with a pale blue inset. The brown and blue goes great together & even though the bedspread is silky, it still looks masculine. He has pine furniture that sorta matches and doesn't look girly at all.
How can I decorate my bedroom for Christmas?
Q. I'm a 13 year old girl
A. If you have a leftover strand of lights from the family Christmas tree (or outside house lights), hang those in your room. Christmas lights are the ultimate decoration and could be all you need to get into the spirit.
If you live near the woods, break off branches from a pine tree, tie them into garland-like lengths using leftover ribbon from the family wrapping supplies, and put those on your desk or table or nightstand or on your curtain rod. The smell will put you into the spirit.
Play Christmas music (even if it's just the radio) on very low volume in your room all the time. The sounds of it will put you in the spirit.
Other ideas:
-You can hang any extra strands of garland or tinsel.
-If you can find holly or mistletoe outside, definitely use that too.
-You can take a box of candy canes and hang those on a string across your wall or from the ceiling, or tie them into bouquets with ribbon and hang them on the wall with a tack.
-You can make cutout snowflakes from paper and hang those.
-Put red sheets over your furniture and put green items on top of them
