birthday party ideas for my 14th bday?
Q. so im turning 14 and im planning on throwing a really big and awesome party/sleepover. im thinking about having about 12-15 girls over.

I really need some ideas on how to keep all these people entertained! we can't go anywhere,.

our basement is finished, so im thinking of decorating it all cool and having a snack table or something.

can you please please please help me and give me some ideas on how to make this party not lame and the best birthday ever?? games and stuff would be nice.

and makeovers and stuff... ehh. im pretty sure no ONE would want to do that. at least the girl i know wont. like i dont want anything girly!!

A. i think since i am a 14 year old, i am really into having a dance party for option 1. I would have a dj there, and get a tent or 2 depending on how many people are coming like the one below:
http://www.google.com/search?site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1760&bih=840&q=party+tent&oq=party+tent&gs_l=img.3..0l10.1798.3024.0.3191.10.9.0.1.1.0.84.637.9.9.0...0.0...1ac.1.9.img.SBGxGCQ-s9g#imgrc=5kCYpY2bl_dliM%3A%3Boag7KxBC_tB1EM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.jumpandparty.net%252Fimages%252Ftent.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.jumpandparty.net%252FTentsTablesChairs.html%3B1020%3B700
and here is a disco ball that you could rent:
http://www.partylandutah.com/wedding_lighting.htm
and then I would get some tables to set up
but you dont need to go all fancy for the party chairs and tables because it is only for a 14th birthday party.for the dj i would have one like below:
http://www.google.com/search?site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1760&bih=840&q=party+tables+to+rent&oq=party+tables+to+rent&gs_l=img.3...1713.4468.0.4595.20.12.0.8.2.0.96.852.12.12.0...0.0...1ac.1.9.img.UGlZZkPmqe4#site=imghp&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=dj+for+sweet+16&oq=dj+for+sweet+16&gs_l=img.3..0i24l3.3296.6748.6.6864.15.9.1.5.6.0.174.698.7j2.9.0...0.0...1c.1.9.img.MzAotvPUL7E&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.45512109,d.aWM&fp=d45a426402f1f8d0&biw=1760&bih=840&imgrc=Lc9Eq4AZK1DDLM%3A%3BKP7teR8_LbP2CM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.thedjco.net%252Ftheme%252Fmain%252Fimages%252Fsweet16s.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.thedjco.net%252Fsweet-16s%252Fpackages.html%3B1200%3B800
and then I would set up a dance floor and add balloons around the dance floor:
http://www.google.com/search?site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1760&bih=840&q=party+tables+to+rent&oq=party+tables+to+rent&gs_l=img.3...1713.4468.0.4595.20.12.0.8.2.0.96.852.12.12.0...0.0...1ac.1.9.img.UGlZZkPmqe4#site=imghp&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=dance+floor+outside+with+balloons&oq=dance+floor+outside+with+balloons&gs_l=img.3...36876.42803.8.42944.33.27.0.6.6.0.122.1834.26j1.27.0...0.0...1c.1.9.img.w3aTjAJkNu4&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.45512109,d.aWM&fp=d45a426402f1f8d0&biw=1760&bih=840&imgrc=ZiYwhwy21yiMPM%3A%3BUSFImnbHYWUPGM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.rentallinc.com%252Fimages%252F100_0001_2.JPG%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.rentallinc.com%252FDanceFloor3x3insideandoutside.htm%3B700%3B271
and then get balloons.
FOR OPTION 2:
Set up your house as a spa. Make sure your house is cleaned up in EVERY single room. First, buy, all the supplies needed at a spa:
1. cotton balls
2. face masks
3. cotton swabs
4.foot spa ( link below for cheap good spa)
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Conair-True-Massaging-Foot-Bath-with-Bubbles-and-Heat/16513138
5. Nail polish and manicure kit/pedicuer kit kit http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nailene-Artist-Expressions-Cool-Nail-Polish-Kit/20648038
I would also get makeup kits with a ton of varieties of eyeshadow, mascara, lipgloss, blush and eyeliner. I would then get a few curlers and straighteners.
In the living room, I would set up a table or two and set up the nail polish that you have. Make sure that the colors are cool and cute. then set cotton balls, nail polish remover, cotton swabs and nail fillers. In the bathroom, set up the spa station. Make sure you set this up in the biggest bathroom you have. Then infront of the toilet, put the spa machine. On the counter, put the face mask stuff there and lotion. In another bedroom, set up a table with, hair spray, curlers, straighteners, bobby pins, and hair accesories. In the dining room, or wherever you eat dinner, set up a fancy resturaunt by placing glass plates on every spot for each person attending the party. Then add a glass cup, and a napkin in the cup. Then set the utensils next to the plates. Then add a really nice bouquet of flowers in the midle of the table and serve a variety of meals. Then in another room, with a mirror, set up a clothing rack. Make sure the people coming brings there own clothing that is fancy and they can get all dressed up in that room. Then after they are done with getting dressed, in the same room, they can get makeovers done by some volunteered older sisters, and adult females.
Then after they are all done through all the stations, they can go have a fashion show in a room with a lot of room. Then take tons of pictures and post them on twitter, facebook, instagram etc. Then serve them dinner, then cake and ice cream. After that, they can enjoy a movie marathon of there choice. Before going to sleep if they do go to sleep, make sure they wash there face off so the makeup is all gone off there face.

So for tumblr or hipster room, how about using chrismas little lights to twist the bedroom or the wall, then use pothook to hang on your ukulele in the wall make the wall special, or you can use night light butterfly wallpaper to make the wall cool. For e the bedside table, you can use delicate and romantic table cloth to make it pretty and cozy, luxury. For your concert tickets, you can stick onto the wall, make your room be the music themes. What are some good Christmas decorating ideas for a teen bedroom?

Q. I am 16, and love to decorate for Christmas, and especially since the family comes over for christmas eve! I know it's a bit early, but I wanted to know some good decorating ideas to make my room look extra special this year. All I have so far is a mini Christmas tree with lights, garland, and ornaments. What else could I do?

A. I would cut out some snowflakes and maybe put glitter on them and hang them from my ceiling mixed with the christmas lights (clear would look best)! Or hang the ornaments from the ceiling with cup hooks. I would also put a small tree in the corner and decorate it to match the colors you are using and maybe wrap a couple of empty boxes to put under it (or if you wanna use a miniature tree if you have a small room, you can decorate some miniature boxes too, so cute)!
If you don't already have or don't wanna spend money on a bedding set, you can buy plain red, green or white sheets. Accent the color of the room opposite of the color of your bedding. You can even cut out red and green felt shapes (stars, stockings, candy canes, trees) and use fabric glue or stitch them to a white pillow case for a sham on your bed or even your sheets! =)

List of household items and furniture I will need. Decorating ideas. New apartment and buying all new stuff?
Q. I am looking if someone knows of some sort of new home checklist or something. I am relocating from Michigan to Texas and instead of doing a huge truckload across the country. I am selling everything here and going to purchase new stuff when I get down there. It is just a one bedroom apartment for my three year old son and myself. I just want a basic list, I want to start planning and picking things out (the move isn't until May), I kind of feel like I am forgetting some things. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, if anyone has any decorating ideas or links to furniture, I really love purple and kind of want to do a "purple" theme...any suggestions would be great!

Thanks in advance :)
That is a good point! I like that idea for the purple accents in the living room. I really like black and white...I'd op for black furniture because I have a three year old lol and the walls will be white (not by choice), but I can picture white and purple accents with the black and it looks pretty to me :) the dining room sits off of the living room, so I can get a black kitchen table with some sort of purple centerpiece to tie it all together.

A. If you are moving to a new house and want to decorate ever corner with the best furniture and other stuffs then online stores would be the best choice for you. I prefer buy online and as you will get less time to waste so online stores will give you option to choose from various available designs and colors. Also, you will be able to choose at your home and can save lots of time as well as money. Joss & Main is one of the well-known stores; hope you will find all the stuffs.

this is the link the one above didnt work

A. Link didn't work.
Normally people just take a section of happy/inspirational lyrics and post them on the wall.

I'm going to be moving into a really small room for school?

Q. I need really cheap decorating ideas. I can't move my bed, the room is too small to do any rearranging. All that's in there is the bed, a small desk, a small table with a chair and a small refrigerator on the small table and one window. I can't put anything on the walls. How can I decorate to make the room a little more lively?
I'm not moving into a dorm room, it's a room at my pastor's house. I'm going to try not to have a ton of stuff in there, because come next may, I'll be moving it all into a house to live with my new husband!

A. I would say that you go with a certain color or theme...then, buy a new bed set to liven it up. Then, you could buy new curtains that go with the same theme, and a matching throw/area rug. Next, you could put some material on the top of the table that also matches the theme. If you would be allowed to put just 1 thing on the walls, I would say to add a mirror...to make the space look a little bigger. All of the stuff that you buy can be used in your new house, for the guest bedroom or something!!!

Good luck and happy decorating!!!

What are some calming, cheap bedroom decorating ideas?
Q. I am moving soon, and my room will be somewhat small. I have a queen size bed and I am wanting to do something cheap but sensual to it? any ideas? red is kinda my theme but i dont plan to paint the walls (they are white). any tips??

A. Use throw pillows to decorate your bed...the more pillows the better. Get all shapes and sizes. It creates an illusion that will make you want to fall into the middle of them...as if you were a little kid. Its a very comforting thought, sort of like a big hug. I rather enjoy it. Of course if you are married or living with a significant other then "HE" may not go for that as it will seem too girlie or childish to a guy. But hey if its your room...dazzle yourself. Be creative. Buy a few multicolored light bulbs to put in your lamps. Cover the lamp shades with scarves to emit a softer light. You can have all sorts of fun with that. Good luck.

Creative Decorating Ideas for a dorm room?
Q. My roommate and I are moving into an apartment style door room. It has a kitchen and a living room and still the same cinderblock walls. We also have separate bedrooms. For my room, I have a lot of photographer, graphic design, and painter friends so I'm trying to get each to make me something to put on the wall. For the kitchen, we thought about taking a champagne bottle and burning a candle into the top. Does anyone have any other cheap/creative decorating ideas? Or a website that might help? Thanks.

A. simple things to spice up a dorm include colorful rugs, anything you can put on the walls (i had album covers up one year, my roommate was obsessed with fashion magazines and plastered the walls with her favorite ads, etc). for common areas, try picking a color scheme and buying things that fit into it.

the dollar aisles at target are a lifesaver, you always find the most random things, usually for under $5. light becomes very important, so make sure you have enough lamps and stuff. i know a lot of people who collect liquor/wine bottles in their kitchens and its good at least for some color.

also, if you're allowed, try painting a wall or two, it really makes it feel more like home and its one less wall you feel the need to decorate.

How should I decorate my boys room?

Q. I have a 8, 3 and 3 month old in the same bedroom. I want to move but the 3 bedroom apt are full and we can't afford a house right now.

A. A decorating theme is a great way to begin decorating a room for a child. If you're like most parents, you've probably spent lots of time thinking about decorating your new child's room even before he joined your family. While bunnies are cute and teddy bears are darling, you might want something different for the bedroom or playroom.

There are lots of great themes for boys' rooms. A special theme will provide both the focus and the inspiration for a special one-of-a-kind room and can be adapted as your child grows. Time to get started!

Bug's Life
From bees and ants to frogs and reptiles, creatures of nature often capture a child's attention. Browse theme ideas at Posh Tots including a Bug Off Table and Chair Set, Bug bed linens, and or frog lamp.

Favorite Animals
What boy wouldn't love a room focusing on his favorite pet? Whether it's a dog or cat, bird or snake, using this theme will make your son (and his pet) feel particularly at home. Be sure to put up lots of pictures with your son and his best friend around the room and make sure you have stuffed animals scattered everywhere.

Playhouse / Playtown
This theme will provide a wonderful scheme for decorating your son's room and provide lots of wonderful playtime possibilities as well. A whimsical or the cute playtown chest can be your starting point. Or, do a border in kids designs or paint a mural of a street scene on one or more walls. Name the storefronts for family members ("Katie's Groceries", "Ted's Puppet Theatre", "Todd's Bike Shop", "Anne's Pet Heaven", "Sara's Video Den", or Dennis' Book Nook").

Safari
For a safari look, find wonderful, colorful animal wallpaper borders and fabrics at any wallpaper store. Paint the walls blue, tan, ivory, or any of the colors in your wallpaper border. Make pillows and valances from coordinating leopard-print fabrics, and find some stuffed lions and tigers for the corner. Mount a butterfly net, binoculars, or straw hat on the walls. Use colorful matboard and frame some of your child's artwork to display. Maybe he'll draw some lions!

Rustic Cabin
Most every child loves spending time at camp or in the mountains. And what parent doesn't have happy childhood memories of hiking, boating, fishing, or just enjoying the outdoors. Birdhouses, bears, moose, and fish might show up in wallpaper borders, in fabrics, bedding, and accessories. For a rustic room you might also choose comfy plaid patterns, flannel fabrics, and log or pine beds. Accessories might use forest themes of animals, mountain scenes, or natural materials such as pine cones, leaves, and sticks. Take another cue from camp and use a sturdy trunk to store toys. With a room this nice, who needs a vacation?

Rain Forest
Choose a colorful jungle border, or try a jungle area rug. Soft fabric snakes and colorful stuffed birds or butterfly cutouts can add to the decor. Make pillows of animal or jungle prints and use themed accessories. Grrr!

Race Cars
With car racing, you think black and white checkered flags, and a finish line. Find an area rug with a car track design. A car bed might be fun, or decorate the walls with a car wall appliques. Add some framed calendar photos or posters of race cars, and put up narrow shelving to display car collections. Zoom!

Outer Space
Take a trip to the stars using a space theme. An Apollo bed set, outerspace border, or star-studded rocking chair might be just the items that inspires your child to reach for the stars. Paint reflective planets or stars on the ceiling in arrangements of the constellations.

Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines
If Dad is in the service, you might let your boy feel patriotic with a room painted in camouflage and outfitted with tanks and desert colors.

Sports
From soccer to baseball to football, sports is a theme that spans the generations. To use a baseball theme for example, use a headboard made from bats, hang curtains from bats used as curtain rods, make a baseball lamp, or hang shelving to display gloves, pennants, and trophies. Paint the room in the colors of your son's favorite team. Sports themed rugs, furniture, and beds are another possibility. Create similar looks for other sports, and you'll have a room that is a big "hit" with sports fans. Play ball!

Wild Colors
Go wild by starting with a lively area rug designed in fun colors for a child. Take your cue from the rug for colors and designs for the rest of the room. Use color everywhere! Paint every surface of a bookcase a different color, and do the same with headboard slats, drawer fronts, and chair legs. This is a great way to help your little one learn his colors! Find a fabric to compliment the rug and use it to tie the room together with window valances or floor pillows.

Movie or Cartoon Characters
There's something for everyone in this theme! Whether your son has been captivated by Mickey Mouse, Alladin, Lion King, Toy Story, or Scooby Doo -- you'll probably be able to find bedding, lamps, and other decorative items that use these themes. Towels for the bathroom and toys will be easy to add.

Pirates
The story of Peter Pan can inspire creative parents to design a wonderful room. Boys intrigued by the notion of pirates will love a room using blue ocean themes, ship masts, portholes, netting, treasure boxes, and secret play hideaways.

Knights and Castles
Artistic parents can faux paint castle walls, murals, and blue skies for a truly memorable room. Use the theme of "A Sword in the Stone" or "Camelot" for inspiration. Find another take on this theme offered by for Mercy's Sake in their Galahad collection.

Trains, Planes, and Automobiles
There are lots of colorful choices in bedding, fabrics, and wallpaper that feature transportation themes. Make a train track border around the room, hang airplanes from the ceiling, or go wild with a car-shaped bed.

Cowboy Kids
This is a fun theme where you can let your imagination run wild. Think bandana valances, chaps wall hangings, tin stars, horses, rope borders, and more. The baby dude designs offered by for Mercy's Sake offer some fun possibilities. Or check out OliveKids.com Camp Wilderness or the Wild West theme designs from PoshTots.com for more creative examples of this theme and products to add to your decor.

Dinosaurs
From cute and stylized to realistic and ferocious -- dinosaurs themes are still popular. If you suspect this is a passing phase for your little one, then opt for solid color bedding and walls, using theme elements in borders, sheets, valances, and posters.

Do you have any decorating ideas for a glam and Hollywood theme with purple?
Q. My bedroom colors are purple but I want to do a glam and Hollywood thing so any ideas.

A. Weird that I just answered another similar question

Hollywood/Glam with purple would be great. Good items for the look include dressing room lights, mirrors or shiny silver/gold surfaces, upholstered headboards, animal prints, stars, chandeliers, silky fabrics, and posters or wall decals of movie stars. You could also add campy items like fake film rolls, a slate or a hollywood studio-style desk lamp.

Have included websites with lots of examples of accessories and a few rooms that pull the look together--one of them is purple. Also, if you can't afford to buy a lighted dressing room mirror, you might try draping a string of lights over your mirror. Have added a website that shows some creative ideas of decorating with Xmas lights.

Good luck and hope this helps!

Is my design idea for my bedroom good and how can I make it better?

Q. I just moved into a new apartment. I'm having furniture delivered from Ikea that is black/brown, all with squared edges and simple lines. (Malm, Mikael, & Expedit) Walls are currently (and will probably stay) white. I want my design to be simple Japanese/Asian meets colorful beach house. Bedding, wall decorations, and accessories are to be colorful (think the color wheel from elementary school). By keeping the the colors to bedding and accessories, I want to be able to alternate it with a more zen-like/earth tone style whenever the mood hits me.

Would this design work? What colors should I concentrate on or avoid? Is there other advice you might have to make this space amazing?

A. If you are going Japanese/Asian, then, walls should be offwhite, taupe, then blend in accessories to be black with gold accents, followed with red and golds for bedspread and black and brass in bathroom. With the light beige or taupe, you will be able to keep your theme and change your comfort cover with browns, blues and dark blues when you want. Beach (Nautical)and Asian will not work together. Adirondack chairs will not go with a Japanese theme. You may mix it with Bamboo accents possibly, but these 2 themes are separate.

What is good furniture for a bedroom that looks like a living room.?
Q. I want to redo my bedroom to make it look like a sitting room type thing until it's time for bedtime when I convert my futon into a bed. I would like some Japanese style things but I don't want it to be obvious that it's japanese styled. I also want it to look very modern.

A. Hi Bananas,
My suggest for your room to achieve what you want is as you said.To keep your room to the minimalist look. This look will capture the simplistic look and also the Japanese look without being too strong a statement. I would look into some Feng Shui design. I would also be aware of the look in your room becoming to uninviting or stark. ( cold appearance ) If you balance all the components, that being pattern texture and colors, your results will be pleasing to you. I have seen some great decorating ideas at Pottery Barn. This would be under Natural Inspiring section. Nature colors will work well for your room. Greens, Tans etc. Think ' Zen ' when you decorate :o)

Any tips to designing a Chinese theme bedroom?
Q. I'm moving to a new home in 3 weeks or so, and this gives me an opportunity to design my room the way I've always wanted. I've always wanted to go for a Chinese themed bedroom, and I'm looking for any tips on how to start with this new project. So If you have any ideas, feel free to tell... Anything from Wall decor, to floors, to furniture is welcome!

A. a traditional chinese themed? or are you looking for an american interpretation of a chinese themed bedroom?

either way...you might want to look in to bamboo materialed/colored things, dark/semi dark wood oriented furniture with oriental design. do not get Bonsai planet, cuz thats japanese. if you're looking into more feminine stuff...try lotus, plum (the flower), and chrysanthemum. for guys...try kirin, dragon (chinese looking ones)...or if you want (tho not necessarily recommended) the chinese horoscope.

chinese people loves the color red, but we use it more on weddings...you might consider that as well. the wall decor, you can look into asian calligraphy styled painting, a fan (hanging)...or perhaps an authentic chinese character sucha as fortune. 2 chairs/stools with a table...small end tables...chinese lantern...ceramic tea set...perhaps incents....all these can be considered as decor :D for windows you can use beads instead of curtains (like the beads yoou hang in the doorway, wooden beads...i hope you know what i'm talking about)

also, google oriental living, or oriental decorating..it'll help. the thing about having a chinese themed bedroom is that you might end up with things that are "oriental themed" but has nothing to do with chinese. you should do a little bit of search just in case :)

How can I style this new room?

Q. Currently, it has hideous yellow walls and marble white tile. It has a queen sized bed and some other furniture. I am allowed to paint the walls, put new accessories/decor up, and get new bedspreads. I like the color scheme white and purple but I don't know if it would be overkill with the floors. What kind of color schemes/themes do you think would look good? The floors cannot be changed.

A. Purple and white are amazing colors for a bedroom.
Either the walls are purple and the bedding white or the other way around.
A purple room can be casual or very sophisticated.

How to make my bedroom look nicer, more mature?
Q. My bedroom is quite small (2.5 x 2.8 meters) and I don't really like it, I might be getting a new carpet; it is green and I have had it since I was born! I don't think I can paint my walls as I got them done about 2 years ago, they are this colour (this is off google, not my bedroom!!)

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.thisarchitecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/purple-fireplaces-wall-color-2011.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.thisarchitecture.com/interior-decor/purple-home-apartment-wall-color-2011-ideas/&usg=__zGmzCHsIiXteeGUNlulGRSQLQbk=&h=500&w=500&sz=54&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=kB4-01-Liql67M:&tbnh=158&tbnw=162&ei=51y5TaDJCciAhQfHm5yEDw&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dpurple%2Bwall%2Bcolor%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D625%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=137&vpy=76&dur=239&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=123&ty=96&page=1&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0

And I have a very big beige wardrobe, white bed which isn't very good, and some shelves which match the colour of the wardrobe, and also a pink rug.. I really want to change it, some cool storage ideas, nice ways to display photo's.. Just some really cool ways to make my bedroom more teenagerish! Or interesting furniture etc, thank you!

By the way I am a 13 year old girl.
Thanks :)

A. For small rooms use one color palette and pick bright color to open up the space. If you use the same color for accessories, but experiment more with the color intensity, you will add more depth and liven up your room. Best colors for big rooms are warm and dark. To highlight some points in the room you’re free to use bold colors for decorations or ornaments on the walls, but be careful to not use the same color throughout the whole room.

There are few rules for the proper placement of pictures on the walls. When you pick the right picture for the right wall always remember that it should occupy not more than 2/3 of the free space above your furniture. Leave an arm space above the back of the furniture and the bottom of the picture. Keep the pictures at the height of eyesight, although it is also acceptable to put them at seated eye level.

You don’t have to add extra lighting to make your room look brighter. Use white or bright, neutral colors on your walls and/ or floor. Create natural light reflections with such objects as mirrors, picture frames with glass, decorations made of crystals etc. Don’t try to frame the window with curtains, but install them on the wall next to the window to make it look bigger.

Arrange some extra storage space under your bed or in the corners of the room. Create a focal point in your room - an object that attracts the eye and gives a feeling of order. Focal point can be a distinctive piece of furniture or decoration. It will create a theme for the room and you should follow it if you’re planning to make some additional decorations. Use mirrors to make your room look more spacey.

My room right now is very boring, so i've been looking for websites that have neon pink, lime green, and zebra print, but i never found any website where I can buy those things. Please help?

How to decorate a bedroom around a captain's bed?

Q. We recently moved to a new house and I would like to finally decorate the bedroom. It's nice and spacious and the only furniture that we currently have in it is a queen captain's bed that my husband built. It's nice enough (ok, I am not crazy about it but my husband put a lot of sweat and tears into that bed, so it's not going anywhere soon), and the wood is a gorgeous natural cherry. My decorating problem is that it's so BOXY (both the bed and the shelves in the headboard) - I don't know what to do with it. Any ideas for how to decorate the bedroom?

A. What about using a dust ruffle to minimize the boxiness of the platform that holds the drawers? You'd still be able to get into them easily, because you could just lift the ruffle.

And the head and footboard are good storage, too - you could put a couple of books in one nook, a candle garden in another (you wouldn't light those, of course, but if you get scented ones, the scent will be released into the room very slowly even if not lit) - little stuff, you know, but not too much - keep if from getting jam-packed with stuff so it doesn;t look cluttered.

And I've seen people get some more decorative shoeboxes and stack them sort of caddywhompus (not exactly straight) in the footboard cubbies - then their shoes are ready to go, but it still looks really nice.

The trick is going to be using some fabrics and accessories to soften the boxy shape of the bed - nice drapes, valances and shades on your windows and perhaps a rug underneath will also help. Using round shapes in your accessories will also help, so for example, changing your lampshades if you use bedstand lamps for ones with a round shape is a good idea. Placing a few pillar candles around the room in little groups, a round clock on a wall that is seen as you come in, these are little things you wouldn't think help, but they do, because they give your eye something other than the straight lines of the bed to focus on.

How do I decorate my bedroom like the 1940s?
Q. I want to decorate my bedroom in 1940s glamor style. My inspiration came from the notebook. I realize the notebook isn't glamor but I would love to incorporate both of these styles. And ideas?

A. Colors
Choose Jadeite and a red and white theme. You can find plenty of vintage accents to fill your bedroom for either one of these color schemes. Why not start a collection of jadeite that you can display in drawers? You can jazz the place up with vintage wooden handle gadgets that are painted jadite and cream. If you are going for the red and white theme, there are plenty of red vintage bed sheet and bed cover out there and vintage linens can really perk up the place. Another advantage of the red and white theme is you can also add in a fruit theme on top of bed side desk.

I would leave the walls a neutral color - white of off white so that it does not detract from all your great accessories. Linoleum flooring in a checkerboard pattern would be perfect. Some color coordinated throw rugs can add a bit of color to the floor and pull it all together.

Lighting
Simple lighting is best. You can buy vintage ceiling lights and wall sconces if you want a really authentic look. Of course you'll want to make sure you have enough task lighting so some modern lights will have to be worked in. I suggest you make them as subtle as possible so they don't look out of place.

Window Treatments
Use vintage curtains for your windows. You can buy them with complimentary colors and great patterns. If you can't find curtains make some out of vintage dish towels or tablecloths - you can buy tablecloths that have stains in 1 area pretty cheaply and then just use the good area for the curtains! If you are going with a red and white 1940's kitchen decorating theme, you might want to pick either cherries or apples as a secondary theme and look for curtains with those fruits in the motif.

Furniture
Glass knobs will really jazz up your bed furniture and drawers and add an authentic vintage look. If you have painted drawers in either white or cream, try the green glass knobs. Your bed side table and chairs should either be a chrome vintage style or a vintage wooden style table with enamel top. If you can’t find either of these, you can buy any type table and hide it with a vintage tablecloth.

Accessories
Accessories for 1940’s style as bedroom accessories can be found in antique malls as well as bought brand new. Soften up the room by hanging vintage tablecloths and tea towels around. Chrome appliances go well with this look as do the retro style appliances you can buy brand new these days.

I have a dark cherry wood sleigh bed with matching furniture and want a dark room to sleep in..decorating tips
Q. Decorating tips anyone? Like what color should I paint my bedroom to keep it dark enough to have a cave like atmosphere when I sleep...ideas at all?

A. First thing I would purchase would be room darkening shades for your windows. I purchased mine through JC Penney, but there may be other retailers who also carry them. Cherry wood furniture is very rich and beautiful. Therefore, you should use a paint color on your walls with the same richness that your furniture has. I would recommend a few colors from Sherwin William's. Option one: A brown color called "Colonial Revival Stone #2827". Second option: A medium muted shade of green called "Sage Green Light #2851". That was my favorite until I went into the blue section and found a color for option three: " Bunglehouse Blue #0048". This is a muted darker blue that really makes the cherry wood "pop". I tried to find a shade of gold, since gold is intense and rich also, but didn't like how any of the choices looked next to the cherry furniture. You can check out my choices for your bedroom color at the following site. I chose the bedroom with the cherry furniture to get the best comparison to your room. Good luck!!!

Do you think this will look good for a bedroom?

Q. I want to redo my room, right now i have lime green walls and wood furniture. i was planning on keeping one wall green and paint the rest blue ( the color is called "south seas"), spray painting my wood furniture white, and decorating with colors like purple, pink other shades of blue and a little bit of black, mabye a little yellow. i have no idea if this will turn out good or not. if you think this will look terrible say so or if you have other ideas, say what ever you want.

A. For the color in your room think three ... and 'white' is NOT a color. I'd go with either purple, pink, or yellow, but not a combination. You can use some black, but I'd go with a 'medium to dark wood brown' for that 'South Seas Island' look. Yes, you can use another color, but not as heavily ... think of the blue and green as your 'background' with the brown and other color as the 'trees and flowers' and then have just tiny bits of a last color for 'accent' and your room will look amazing. My husband is a fine artist, and we do this 'color matching' all the time to show his art pieces off ... and that is difficult, since his best pieces are basically done in pencil. I mean have you any idea how difficult it is to 'decorate' when the 'artwork' is basically grey and white? Have fun, find a good 'theme' and remember that 'less is more' in everything. Put all but a few bits of 'clutter' into boxes and change the clutter every month or two to keep your room looking fresh and alive and you'll have a room you truly want to 'come home to' ...

What color should I paint my room? (and if anyone has decorating tips)?
Q. I'm thinking of repainting my room (which is currently a very light, almost bathroom-y sea-foam green).

My room is very small so I can't paint it anything too dark (but on the flip-side, I don't like bright/light colors like pinks or yellows and whites are too plain).
I like greys and purples but I'm worried that the color will make the room seem too small.

Can anyone offer any advice or potential color ideas?

A. Aww, it's a shame you don't like your current color. If done right, that would be a very pretty color for a bedroom. If you go with dark purple, it is likely it will make the room feel cave-like and smaller. If you're not concerned about that, go for it. But if you are, you could do a light gray on the walls and use the dark purple as accents around the room. That way, you get the two colors you love. You could also stencil some kind of design on a main focal wall in the dark purple.

What color should I design the other room incase my family stays there?
Q. What's are some ideas on designing some empty rooms in the house? What should he make it into since it's?
not occupied?

suppose only one bedroom is being occupied right now which has a zen theme

and one room was made into an exercise room

A. For a guest room:
First, decide what color you would like to paint it (unless you want the color it is). Don't do pink or purple because that is a girl's color, and as you are probably expecting not just girls in that room, make sure it's a color that any one of your guests would like. Obviously don't paint it black, or even gray. Guys might like one of those colors, but girls won't! Also, try not to paint it too bright. Although some guests might like bright colors, some might find it weird. So try to stay away from bright yellow, orange, or red. That pretty much brings it down to the basic guest room colors: light blue, tan, maybe light green, white, any thing along that line would do. And decorating it is important. You want the room to look elegant, yet homey at the same time. Don't add too much furniture, but enough for the guest/guests. Please remember that you want make sure that YOU are happy with the room. Make sure that it will please most people, but make sure that you like the room. If you don't and pay all of this money for furniture, you go through painting it and all of that, and you end up NOT liking it... well, that would be like a huge waste. So, make sure you are happy with it (although don't base everything just on your taste) and that others are happy with it, and that you have fun!!!

For other room ideas:
A sewing room (if you sew), An attic type room where you just store all of your stuff, A craft area (if you craft), A play room for kids (if you have kids, but it sounds like you don't), Just another lounge type area with maybe a futon for guests, a nice tv and bookcase, And pretty much whatever fits your need.
Have fun and don't stress about it!!!

What are some ideas for a Charleston theme bedroom?

Q. I love Charleston,SC. What are some ideas for a Charleston theme room? I recently painted my walls a light blue, the furniture I have is white. I don't have anything on the walls.

A. Charleston is awesome & filled with art & inspiration. For an elegant bedroom, an addition of a couple of carefully chosen antiques/reproductions set the mood. Many times, Charleston style bedrooms feature rice beds, poster beds, metal or canopy tops. Add a blue & white or lace bed-skirt & fold a pretty handmade quilt across the bottom.

Earthy, natural tones add warmth, esp. with accent pillows that are or look handmade. On your bedside table or dresser, use silk magnolia flowers around a stout white candle or in a basket (below). For the walls, you can use decorated grape vine wreaths, a fancy mirror, a framed print of Rainbow Row or an entrance to a garden.

Many Charleston homes reflect memorabilia illustrating the history of "the low country." Decorative moldings around doors & ceiling add richness & define the architecture. If you have hardwood floors, colorful area rugs are nice. If room allows, add a rocking chair or chaise lounge~see last link, pg. 163...

Here are yummy ideas from a Charleston designer & Southern Living Magazine:

What are some good ideas for teen room themes?

How would i decorate my room to make it look like a boudoir?
Q. I would like it to look very parisian but i have no idea how to go about it! Does anyone have any tips on how to decorate it? What colour should i paint the walls and what furniture would be good? If any one has any pictures that i could use for inspiration it would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance! xx
edit- My bedroom is quite large and airy. Would dark colours be alright to use?

A. Lots of people think painting a room in darker colors would make it look more luxurious. I disagree, because more often than not dark colors come off looking a bit devoid of colors. Think of it this way: if you ever check into a luxury hotel room, you probably don't want it painted in dark purple! If you want your room to have a somewhat mysterious dark tone, invest in a good ceiling light with an adjustable power switch that project warm color lighting. Since you mentioned your room is quite large, you may also want to get a few floor lamps and table lamps to help you get better control of lighting in the room.

Unless your room is already in the right color, I would definitely repaint it. You should go for a rich golden brown color to match the theme of a Boudoir/Parisian room. Since it is the same color scheme as sun rays, and warm color lights, it is easy to control the look and feel of a room by playing with different light source.

As for the furniture, a Canopy Bed is a must for a Boudoir. I would even go through the extra effort to pick out good curtains to go on the frame. You'll also need a dresser, table and mirror, and nightstand that match the bed. Shop around for a good bedroom set that features a canopy bed. You can really tell the difference. In this case, a dark color for these furniture would help accentuate your decor.

To finish off, shop around for a couple of good paintings, curtains, and a rug. make sure you get good curtains that not only look good, but also blocks off sunlight. Do two layers, with a set of thinner curtains that only partially shields you from the sun, for when the sun gets too bright, and a heavy curtain when you want the sun out completely. Also the rug should go just half way under the bed so half of it is exposed, and half submerged under the bed. This just helps establish the bed as the center piece of your room.

Finally, don't be afraid to accessorize your bed. Get a few luxury bed and pillow sheets, and a few extra pillows or cushions. The bed is the centerpiece of any bedroom, particularly Boudoir. You may need to take some time to shop around, but it really is worth the effort.

Hope this helps!

I have a dark pink carpet and I want to redecorate my room?
Q. I have a dark pink carpet which I am unable to change. I am a 16 year old girl and I am planning to redecorate my room however I'm not sure what to do as in colours? I was think maybe brown curtains? I'm not sure, any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks

A. I have heard it said many times from decorators, "If you can't change it - embrace it!" So, I would suggest that you find fabric (that has your same, or similar, dark pink in it) in a design/pattern that you really like. Then take colors from that to spread around your room.

How about making a quilt and hanging it on the wall as art (and it's useful, too)?

Good luck.

How to decorate a hunter green room into a kids room?
Q. We just moved into a rental home. So excited but one of the bedrooms is HUNTER GREEN! That's not even the worse part. It has a deer at a pond border going all the way around the room. Its a guys type room. I don't have any boys just girls and we want to turn this into the play room. We got them a multi colored pink and purple lamp and a purple carpet to try to lighten it up. But does anyone have any other ideas. No we can not paint. Thanks for your time!

A. You could hang lines (either retractable clothes lines, or tension rods), to drape curtains or fabric from, around the entire room.

Where is the wallpaper border at? If it is at the top, you could hang valances around the room to cover that and leave the rest of the walls green (see below)- either white so it would blend in with the ceiling or perhaps a cloud print.

With the green walls, you could use accessories to give it a fairies in the forest theme/feeling.

Have you asked about painting? It is not very expensive, and you could present it as your doing an upgrade FOR the landlord and that make him/her more open to it.

How to customise my room on a low budget?

Q. I haven't got a lot of money to re-design my room. I want it to look Japanese I love Japan! Any tips on how to pull it off? I also love anime!
All the walls in my room are white except for one that is the most annoying wallpaper with a omg on it... I also have a built in wardrobe.

A. Ah yes, a screen would be Very Japanese. You could try making it yourself too : http://www.google.co.in/search?client=opera&q=how+to+make+a+japanese+screen&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest

You could paint (or cut from posters/paper/glossy magazines & paste] Bamboo shoots on any one of the walls. It will immediately transform the room. If possible, give a very light brush/wash of some background color to enhance the bamboo groove image.

On another wall, you could buy, cut, paste anime posters & images. Or print them out on your computer & then get them enlarged. Whichever is cheaper & more convenient. Or you could buy a few posters/paintings; mount & frame them nicely [you can do it yourself too] & then hang them on the wallpapered wall, thus obviating some of the background.

Write something in Japanese. The characters & calligraphy are very appealing : http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=804&bih=466&q=japanese+writing&oq=japanese+w&gs_l=img.1.0.0l10.1601.3813.0.6758.10.7.0.3.3.0.195.662.0j4.4.0...0.0...1ac.1.4.img.6Fqe5wCo0eY

Buy or make & suspend 1 or more round paper lanterns : http://www.google.co.in/search?client=opera&q=how+to+make+round+paper+lanterns&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest

On one of the walls, draw/paint Sakura or Japanese Cherry Blossoms. These are fairly simple to draw/paint & can be done directly, freehand. If not, you could cut them out or make Origami flowers & paste : http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=804&bih=466&q=japanese+paper+lantern&oq=japanese+paper+lantern&gs_l=img.3..0j0i5j0i24l8.712.4946.0.6216.24.17.1.4.4.0.272.2299.0j12j1.13.0...0.0...1ac.1.4.img.gTCprNlGyu0

Make Origami models of whatever you like & suspend like a mobile.

Buy bedsheets/linen that would go with the theme.

I want to get my kitchen and bedroom upgraded. What's the best way to start this project?
Q. Should I get an interior designer or just do it myself like with software? I have a background in web design. :) Any good resources you can share?

A. First - pick one. You want to do both but start with one and move to the other.
Second - set a budget. How much can you spend on the whole thing? How much do you plan to spend in the kitchen? In the bedroom?
Third - what can you salvage? Most people just gut everything without knowing that they could have saved money by refinishing a lot of cabinets, etc.
Fourth - get an idea of what you want to do. Are you putting in a new floor? New cabinets? New countertops? New paint? Look in magazines and just get an idea of what you want.
Fifth - price everything out. I start at Lowe's and go from there. I always use private contractors, but Lowe's at least gives you a hint at the cost.

I wouldn't just say that your background in web design will trump the need for professionals. You COULD hire an interior designer, but really I would look at contractors unless you want to do the job yourself. Chances are you KNOW what you want. An interior designer helps those who really have no idea what they are doing and have a lot of cash to spend.

How should I decorate my fraternity bedroom?
Q. I'm moving into my frat house next semester and I can design or decorate my room anyway I want. During all the parties the people come into the bedrooms and dance and drink. When they get bored they move to the next bedroom, so I don't want them to be bored. I've already got a big bar made out of nice wood. Someone had an idea to decorate their walls with old records, which is awesome but I can't copy that. I can paint it different colors, put foil or flags or anything on the ceiling, change the lightbulbs, add furniture, add tvs, strobe lights, posters. Last year people put fish tanks with empty "trophy" fifths in them with glow stuff in them for blacklight. You name it. Lets assume there is no budget but keep it reasonable. Can you think of any themes I could go for? We usually listen to rap music and throw in some country and occasionally some 80's like sweet Caroline or something, so it can go off music too.

I'd really appreciate ideas!

What are some decorating ideas for a 14 year old's bedroom?
Q. I am 14 years old.I have darkish-green walls, and a carpet floor. My style is girly, but not TOOO girly.I dont want any paint ideas, or bedding ideas!!!Please just give me some ideas how to rearange my room, and any cute/cool accecories i could put in.

Websites are ok...

Thankss!!!

A. Think shelves and fabric drawers to 'hide' all the clutter in your room. Get a good LARGE bulletin board (whatever kind you want) and arrange your stuff on that in an ordely fashion ... or get a bulletin board for each of the things you want to 'display' or to remind you of things. Put them all on the same wall, either above your 'desk' or next to it so you can move things around. As for 'decorations' you can use things like area rugs, pillows, and even hang pieces of cloth on your walls to display pictures, and if you want you can 'change the decor' very easily by just changing the style and color. You can even change your 'bedding' by getting a duvet cover or two and matching shams for a totally 'new look' when you want it. Think 'LESS IS MORE' and you'll have a good start on decorating your whole house when you are grown.

Can you give me ideas/help for decorating single guy's house?
Q. I'm a thirty-year-old single guy. I like dogs, the outdoors, my Jeep Wrangler, autumn, good wine, travel, photography...

I'm trying to integrate my "likes" into my home. I have painted my living/dining room two colors of khaki, and a chalkboard-green wall. I have a brown leather couch, and walnut tables and bookcases. I've also remodeled my guest bathroom - new flooring, hardware, paint, etc.

However, I'm trying to get ideas on decorating... accent pieces, dining room furniture, bedroom furniture (blank slate right now) and my own bathroom. I need help finding websites for "bachelor pads" and masculine design (not a lot of flowery-things). I'd like to redo the kitchen with the small tiles as a backsplash.

I'd like to find websites/books/magazines that show off a masculine home. Pictures are a must!!

The main goals are to have a cool guy's house and up the resale value.

Serious responses only... any help is appreciated. Thanks!
As I said, folks... I need pictures, websites, magazines, etc. While I appreciate the suggestions, does no one know of ANY place to LOOK at pictures to get ideas? That's what I'm wanting.

A. Hi!
Ok, I am a seasoned interior designer and know exactly what you are saying. Go to www.getdecorating.com and preview all the rooms. When you find a room that has the assets you are looking for, simply save the photo into a desktop file. Continue until you have viewed all rooms that are desirable to you. Go into your design folder (on your desktop) when you are finished and take notes on what items in each room are appropriate for your own style. Masculine styles are often the old world style that includes leathers, etc. When you are designing your rooms in masculine form you will need to add some softness into each room. This will make your rooms more appealing and approachable. In this I mean, adding some chenile pillows to your leather pieces along with some wool or chenile throws to wrap up in when nights turn cold. Add a table runner in a deep pumpkin color and some coordinating dinner plates in an autumn green. There are some really nice black iron candle holders out on the market. Some extend the entire length of a dining table or coffee table. Another thing is to add a few very large potted plants into your decor scheme. This will add life into your spaces. Tall palms and the like are great to add to empty corners. You can add an uplight behind each plant for drama at night. Make sure you repot the plants into desirable containers that go with your particular room. Lamps add great interest to rooms as well. You will find that there are a wide variety in wood or iron to match your rooms. Your wall decor should be kept simple and I would suggest the rod picture hanging kit which holds several sized frames. Some of these are mirrors. I would suggest the wood tones. These rod kits are simple to install, just as simple as a curtain rod. Go solid colors in your bedding. Choose two colors that appeal to you. Use one for the spread and the other for the sheet sets. Go simple. Select an additional comforter to fold at the foot of the bed. This accent comforter should have both colors in it and this will bring your bedroom together nicely. Add a couple of solid throw pillows, an art piece above the bed, lamps and maybe an old antique chair to add interest in one corner along with another tall plant and uplight. I am sure you are getting the picture now. Most of all, have FUN with this!

How to make my bedroom shabby chic?

Q. My bed room at the moment it funky decorated but i want to make it shabby chic. What are some things that i could do that are only cheap but makes me room more shabby chic? If u need more info please ask and ill be happy to answer.

A. Heres an idea that i really like. To get rid of a bare wall above your bed you can add sheer curains you can get for less the 10 dollars. It would look really pretty with colored walls

How can i decorate a boy's room in shabby chic style?I wnt to decrate my house shabbychic but how abt my boys?
Q. Shabby chic is like understated elegant designs, white walls, delicate flower prints and faded pastels. Furniture made to look old and recycled. Similar to french country and cottage designs but more toned down with whites.

A. You can still have the same cottage type feel, but use more masculine colors and patterns. A child's bedroom does not need to be in exactly the same style as the rest of the house.

I would go for more of a pottery barn look in a boy's bedroom. You could use a black painted woods, or a darker stain. Pottery barn also has some adorable fabric patterns for boys that still have that cottage charm without being feminie. If you can't afford Pottery barn, look at their website or catalog for ideas, then shop around. Target has alot of similar items for less.

If your son is old enough (not a baby), decorate around his interests, and allow him some input on what goes in his room. That doesn't mean he has to have cartoon character sheets and bedding, and wall posters. It does mean he can have things he likes, and enjoys in his room.

Have fun!

What are some ideas to decorate a rented house?
Q. We live in a rental house, and I would like some simple decorating ideas and/or tips that won't cost a lot of money but that will make a diffenence even if it's small things that can be done or brought over time to add to the overall affect. I would like to concentrate on the living room first. Any websites that may help me would also be much appreciated. Thank you.

A. Okay... well, first you have to start with deciding on a 'Style' or 'Theme'. What do you want your Living Room to feel/look like?

Country? Log Cabin/Rustic? Victorian? Shabby Chic? Contemporary/Modern? Tuscan? French? Traditional? Old-World?

Are you going to be using existing furniture, or buy new furniture? If existing furniture, what kind of furniture is it? If it won't fit in with the 'Style' you want, you can always slipcover the pieces.

What kind of flooring is in the Living Room? Carpet? Hardwood? Tile? Linoleum? And what colour is it? An Area Rug will go a VERY long way in 'anchoring' the 'Style' you have chosen.

Then you want to look to the Draperies. You may want to replace the existing ones (keeping them in a bag to be dry-cleaned and re-hung when you move out, taking the new ones with you). If you have Blinds in there, (what colour are they?), you can always add a Valence and some Panels to embellish them.

Then you want to look for Art Work that will better represent the 'Theme' you have chosen.

As well, you would want to consider Bookcases, End Tables, Ottomans, and your Entertainment Center if your Television and/or Stereo are in there. What are they sitting on, or cased-in, now?

You want your Colours to be represented thru the Area Rug, Slipcovers, Draperies/Valences, Art Work, and Sofa Pillows.

Can you Paint the walls? What will your Landlord allow you to do?

All these things, (except Painting the wall, of course, *lol*), can be taken with you when you move.

As you can see, 'Decorating' is really done in 'layers'... each layer building upon the previous one. But the 'Style' must be chosen first. Then the 'Colours' you want to use to represent that 'Style'.

Here's a couple of links to help you decide on a 'Style/Theme'...

Master bedroom furniture is traditional dark brown (new), what color can I paint walls?

Q. Bedroom furniture consits of King size bed, two night stands and nine draw dresser. Considering to have 50" TV over dresser, sitting area and include small kitchenette.

A. Hi!

Brown is a neutral color, so basically, you can paint any color under the rainbow with it... it all depends on what you like. There are a few things to remember though, and I have a few suggestions... Hope this helps:

To have complete color harmony in any room, you need to have 3 colors: 1 dominant color (usually the walls), 1 medium color (usually the trim, molding, ceiling, furniture, etc.) and 1 accent color (usually decorative accents such as cushions, vases, throws, etc.). You can use the same color as your funiture as you do on an accent wall or all the walls... it depends on lots of things like your lighting, but we'll get to that later.

In decorating, black and white are not considered colors. White is the absence of all color. That's why you can match it with any color under the rainbow. Black is the mixture of all colors. That's why it too, can be mixed with any color under the rainbow. It's not necessary to have any white in a room, but it is very important that you have at least one black item: a vase, a picture frame, a throw rug, a cushion, a curtain rod, a lamp, etc.... you get the idea). The black will ground ALL of your colors together. So don't forget to add something black in your room.

What color of brown is your furniture: Black-brown (as in very dark espresso coffee), dark chocolate brown, etc. Since you didn't say, here are some color schemes that work with different types of brown furniture. The way to use them is for the 1st color = dominant 2nd color = medium and 3rd color = accent. Of course, you can use them in any other way you like, thought the ones listed here are best together in just this way. (after, you'll get some links to some nice color inspiration).

Chocolate brown & Terra-cotta & Taupe
Chocolate brown & Metallic Gold & Neutral bisque
Chocolate brown & Delicate teal & Teal blue
Chocolate brown & Teal blue & Gernaium red
Chocolate brown & Brick red & Sky blue

Espresso brown & Soft Orange & Coffee with cream
Espresso brown & Aquamarine & Silver
Espresso brown & Blushing Pink & Silver
Espresso brown & Hot pink and Icy Silver
Espresso brown & Candy apple red & Graphite gray
Espresso brown & Cinnamon & Pale sky blue

Light purple & Teal Blue & Geranium red
Cream & Earthy green & Cinnamon
Gold & Copper & Brownish Taupe
Coral brown & Cream & Rich brown
Brilliant yellow & Lavender & Light brown
Orange & Burnt Orange & Brown
Gray brown & Red & Cream
Orange & Dark brown & Metallic gold
Golden yellow & Sky blue & Velvety brown
Aquamarine & Butterscotch gold & dark brown
Cinnamon & Dark brown & Sky blue

This part would have been easier if you would have given us the style of furniture you have, but the pics should help for color inspiration... I hope you enjoy this, because I certainly enjoyed doing the research for this. I LOVE doing this !!!! :)

So... hope that was fun...

The best and most trusted way to find the color for any room, is to take an accessory or decorative item that will be going into that room: the duvet cover, the curtains, a painting, a rug, blinds, shutters, upholstered furniture, a lamp... you get the idea). Choose the item with passion. Make it something that you ABSOLUTELY LOVE, perhaps it was handed down by your great-grandmother or a cherished item you worked hard for. Or make it something that just SCREAMED out your name when you were shopping, so you knew you had to have it! Choose your color pattern from that item. And take it from there.

Keep in mind too, that color is an amazing thing! There's psychology behind color - it can make you have wonderful, relaxing dreams... or it can keep you from falling asleep, especially if you're already a wound-up 6 year old little boy! It can make you feel warm and comfortable, or hot and stifled. It can make you feel nice, fresh and cool - or it can make you feel like parts of you are going to freeze off. Color can be your friend or your enemy. And really, the earth can "shed some light" on us to help decide every color scheme. Here's how:
What direction does your room face - North, South, East or West? It makes a difference. If you've got the sun pounding down on your bedroom window, you'll want to stay away from warm colors, such as reds, yellows, oranges, etc. They'll make you feel too hot. Opt for cooler colors, such as blues, turquoise, cool creams... think mediterranean beach style here. In a room facing North, that doesn't get much light, you'll opt more for warmer colors and brighter colors: yellow, bright pinks, golden hues. Here's a most interesting link about how color affects us psychologicallly:

http://keelynet.com/biology/coloraff.htm

That's all I guess... Hope I helped you choose your color ;-)

You're always welcome to email and I'd enjoy knowing what color scheme you chose...!

How can I decorate a white apartment?
Q. I have a white wall and ceiling apartment but I have a hard time finding things to decorate it with. My couch is like a gray color and I have some pillows that are brown with blue and green decorations. What can I put up on those white walls to bring out some color? Also, my room is also white and my bed setting is wood. What kind of comforter should I get that would bring some color into the room?

A. For your bedroom I'd try to get a color that would really pop against the white walls and wood in your furniture. Depending on your style you could do primary colors like red or blue, which would go great for accent pieces (i.e. pillows, lamps, curtains) to make your room vibrant. Or you could do a monogramatic look w/one specific color and do different shades/tints of it, like cobalt blue, gray blue, baby blue, etc. It could create some depth in your room.

For your living room I'd try to do the same thing. Being as you're in an apartment you may have restrictions on painting, so I'd try to incorporate color through other ways like rugs, artwork, etc. I got some of my best ideas from this website, http://blog.forrent.com/category/apartment-decorating-tips

Hope this helps!
