Looking for Celtic Inerior design tips and references =)?

Rose G

I'm completely remodeling my bedroom and love Celtic inspired art. I'm looking for a website(s) or books that can help me achieve a Celtic look without just throwing a bunch of Celtic stuff in the room and calling it good. I want it to look subtle and beautiful not cliché. I want it to look Celtic with out screaming I bought a bunch of Celtic looking stuff with Celtic designs all over it and threw it in the room. I have an idea of what I want it to end up looking like....very organic and earthy but looking for pictures of finished rooms to draw inspiration from. I have an iron poster bed with scroll work and leaves that I want to buy and become the center piece...sort of like the Tree of Life symbol but want ideas and color palette ideas to pull the room together. Thank you for any help or references you can think of to help me. Rose.

Answer
I would stick to the traditional colors of greens and golds. I would do walls in a warm honey color. Bedding in deep greens with celtic inspired throw pillows in green and gold. You can find beautiful pictures of Irish or Scottish castles. Or frame travel posters of the area you like. Maybe a few celtic crosses grouped together on a wall. I agree that you don't want your room to look like you just threw in a bunch of celtic junk. You might just want to add a greenman wall plaque instead of a picture if it is more the mysticism look you are wanting. Here are a few places you may find interesting pieces for your room.

I am having some issues with decorating my master bedroom. Help!?

Jackie W

I have a rather large space (17x17 ft) with a vaulted ceiling that angles up and creates a plant shelf above the door to the master bath. I would like some suggestions on what to do with this shelf area. It is about 12 ft long and 4 ft deep and is about 9 ft from the floor and is 5 ft tall. I would say that our style is "transitional" not too contemporary and not too traditional. Also I am having trouble with the color scheme. Our furniture is dark cherry, our bedding is khaki and creme striped and the carpet is beige. The walls are currently khaki and all of the neutrals are starting to get to me!! I would like to add some color but with such large walls I am afraid of being overwhelmed. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Answer
i would probably fill the space above the door with a sculpture of some sort (try pier one or bombay company). i think that maybe some light grayish tones with hints of blue would look very nice on your walls to complement the contemporary side. otherwise you should go your local paint store and pick up some paint swatches or even some sample colors that you can actually paint on your wall to try.
this website provides some beautiful colors and ideas. for your situation i would suggest checking out the urban loft, whitewash and thoroughbred colors.

I'm looking for a color that is sort of romantic, and looks really beautiful when the light reflects off it. I saw like a mauve/plum color that looked really pretty and then a reddish orange. any other ideas? thanks!

Answer
Only you can decide what is romantic. The colors you have chosen are beautiful. Add mood lighting, candles and mirrors. Check out hgtv.com for more ideas. Roxanne

Answer
Not... A card
Instead... An e-mail

Of course, there's nothing wrong with Hallmark's finest. You can go funny or romantic, short or long, the $2.99 version or the $6.99 monster card. But really. Your bed-buddy basically knows the gist of what's inside -- some variation of the words "you," "love," and "special." Instead, here's what you do. The night of Feb. 13, fire off an e-mail to your beloved so it's the first thing she opens on the 14th. Try, say, a top 10 list of reasons why you love her. Numbers 10, 7, 5, and 3 are insanely specific and funny habits that only she has. Numbers 9 and 2 are wonderfully earnest big-picture ideas about how (beautiful/smart/compassionate) she is. Number 8 quotes a lyric from her favorite song. Numbers 6 and 4 refer in some way to her amazing bedroom talents. And number 1, well, it better be good.

Not... Roses
Instead... An orchid

She's expecting roses. Red ones. Perhaps she's expecting that you're expecting something in return because you bought red roses. Men know the power of the curveball (to catch the hitter off guard), so start throwing them, would ya? By buying some kind of flower that won't wilt in a week, like an orchid, you're tapping into her symbolic side. When she sees a lasting flower, she sees a lasting relationship. That's much sexier than the clichéd box of a dozen reds. And orchids have kind of an exotic sexual appeal--they're the plant world's passion pits. So dive in.

Not... Restaurants
Instead... Finger foods

I'm all for candlelit dinners, nice bottles of wine, and festive restaurant atmospheres. But V-Day at restaurants is like Fridays at 5 o'clock at the airport -- there's way too much traffic out there. That means you have about as much chance for privacy as a topless starlet frolicking in a fountain during the Cannes Film festival. You could make dinner at home, but instead, order in finger foods -- sushi, egg rolls, chocolate-dipped fruits. Do it right, and you'll be using your hands to feed each other and wipe smudges of chocolate off each other's lips. Which makes for a nice natural transition to other things you can do with your hands, mouths, and bodies.

Answer
I figure the colors blue and pink are so plain, why not do something fun!?

I did my daughter's room a two tone color, there were four walls..Two of them were a light, pastel pink and the other two were a pastel yellow! We then went to Michael's and got wooden letters and painted them white to spell out her name!

For a boy room, I like a pea green color like this one: http://d30opm7hsgivgh.cloudfront.net/upload/951973_MtZIQBA6_b.jpg

Love, love the color! And it's so different from the typical colors! Or, if you did want to go with the typical colors, another thing you could do for the boys room is follow the same two tone idea but instead with a pastel blue and a pastel yellow. Hope I could help!

My room is pretty small.. Something like 3 meters by 4.5.. I've got my single bed, 3 door wardrobe and small bookshelf in there so far and they're all on one of the loger sides of the wall .. I was wondering how do I design this small room without cluttering it with furniture.. The room is quite odd with the panel, ceiling to floor windows in the middle of the 3 meter wide wall.. And there's the door on the opposite.. I currently have a single 4 meter wide waall free /: its too complicated.. How do I make a neat cool organised room out of this small place? And it would be nice if you could attatch websites where I can buy affoardable furniture in the UK..

Thanks a million guys!! :D

Answer
Oh my god, ceiling to floor windows! You're really lucky ;D
Well, I guess you could keep a section of those windows permanently shut and put your desk in front of them so you can always look out on a nice view.
The main thing with tiny rooms is organisation. Also, make sure that you like your room the way it is. A great idea is one of those things that can be used for multiple purposes, eg. under-bed storage, shelves off the walls, and one of those bench-type things that can open up to store stuff. I don't know where you can get those, but keep a look out for them ;D
If you could get stacked pull-out drawers, that could be great too. If there isn't enough space across, then go up!

Happy decorating.

Answer
Here are some DIY wall decorations.

Message Board, pushpin/tac up notes, photos, memorabilia...
Cut a large square out of box cardboard about the size of a corkboard.
To make the hanger, punch two holes 1/2 inch apart 1 inch from the top in the center,
(where a hanger is on the back of a frame)
http://www.bellababyart.com/myfiles/image/sample_sawtooth-hanger.jpg
thread the ends of a twisty tie (the paper covered wire used to close bread) thru the holes, turn cardboard over, make a loop and twist the ends.
Cut a piece of fabric 2 inches larger than the cardboard.
Lay cardboard on top of fabric and wrap to the back like a present and pin.
http://www.singermachines.co.uk/access_images/pins.jpg
(you could use an old shirt or sweater or t-shirt with a cool design or your fav band,
cut the front of the shirt two inches bigger than the cardboard)

Wall Art Panels
Cut two or three matching size rectangles about 12"x30" out of box cardboard
or out of a sheet of styrofoam. <available home improvement stores $4
Make the hanger as above, add a layer of batting and wrap each with matching fabric and hang together on one wall.
You can get remnant fabric for $1-$3 per yard at any fabric store or in the fabric section of dept. stores in every color, pattern or design imaginable to coordinate with your room.
Or you could use wallpaper or cool design wrapping paper and glue to the back.
http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=e07582

Picture collage
Cut out any size out of thin cardboard. (a cereal box works great)
Make the hanger.
Use a glue stick or a small drop of glue for each pic, you can arrange the photos side by side or overlapping.
Or make a collage cut from magazines.
http://www.creativity-portal.com/howto/artscrafts/features/2004/magazine.collage.html

Frames
Cut out any size frame from cardboard and wrap with fabric strips, wallpaper or gift wrap and glue pic to the back.
http://home.howstuffworks.com/fabric-crafts5.htm
You can frame calendar pics or print pics from the net and frame.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/thaicreate/my%20website/purple-rose-4.jpg <click file (upper left) choose print
http://www.monchesfarm.com/Abstract%20Art.jpg <"
http://www.soonerplantfarm.com/_ccLib/image/plants/DETA-386.jpg

You could decorate with accessories like candles, lava lamp and blown glass figurines.

What can you make using household items?

Felicia

i want to make my room look cooler but i really dont have the money right now to go out and by stuff, what can i make woth typical house hold items?

Answer
First of all, how many set of bed clothes do you have? Sheets, pillow cases? You can take one set and make yourself new curtains. Find some pictures you like put them on the wall behind your bed and make a new headboard. You can also make a head board from branches. Go to http://www.hgtv.com and ask for information on converting your bedroom. No need to specify your age as there may be something in the various links that you just have to have and would not have seen if you specified one thing. You could also paint your furniture and doors or put a mirror on one of the doors. The curtains if your making them can be made to hang into the shape of the "shades" that are put on the outside windows. Email me and I can give you information on how to make them. Here are some links that may help you but I have been watching the conversions they make on HGTV and they are great.

How should I decorate my bedroom that has forest green carpet and wood paneling?

beautiful bedroom ideas girls image

Katie

I can't change the carpet or paint the walls but I want my room to look more like a teenage girls room. The walls are a really light cream/wood color and the carpet has flecks of purple and tan in it. I just want some ideas as to how to decorate in a way that will tie every thing in. What color furniture? curtains? and bed set?

Answer
Hanging light purple sheer panels can lighten it up since there are flecks of purple in the carpeting. A light colored poster board would brighten up the room along with some teen posters (I've seen an array of posters at Walmart). A light purple bedspread that matches the curtains would also bring brightness into the room. Go to garage sales and get an old piece of furniture like a table or a small desk. Paint the top one color and the legs another. Like purple top, tan legs. Sometimes you can get reject paint at paint stores or Walmart at a good price. If you get poster board and it has a border, use that brightly colored paint to accent it. A purple border that matches the table/desk would look beautiful. I hope this helps you, just be creative.

How do I make my bedroom look more sophisticated?

i'mnotgood

I'm 17, and I have no idea how to decorate my room. I feel like it looks like it belongs to a 13-15 year old girl. And I desperatley want it to look more sophisticated and mature. Sort of like the teenage bedrooms on tumblr, but not the rebellious looking ones with magazine cutouts and posters plastered everywhere.

Help please :)

Answer
There are plenty of options to choose from. But before starting out, you must have a budget in mind and go from there. You don't want to start out on something and end up realizing that for a good effect, you have to end up spending a small fortune. Do you have hobbies or things that you're really keen on like movies, sports, collections or anything like that? That's a good way to start off if you want to have a room that's completely you.

I'll just give you an example here. If you're a collector of sorts who collects stamps, coins, dried flowers etc. you can have display shelves with your collection proudly displayed. You can have wooden furniture to match the room. Solid colored bed linen and accessories will give an intellectual air to the room.

If you like an old-fashioned room, lovely antiques or at least some antique furniture will look beautiful in your room. You can go with lace and tulle and transparent, feminine-looking drapes. A big, oval mirror in a bronze frame will add a touch of charming elegance.

Or if you want to have a typical teen room, bright and cheerful, go with colorful bedding and accessories. This is my personal favorite. Go with a quilt in warm, happy colors. Make the bed the focus of attention with the quilt. Art work for the walls like canvas prints, oil on canvas or acrylic and water color on canvas will create an atmosphere of cozy warmth. Canvas prints of country scenes or flowers or anything that adds to the colorful theme is good. Add some colorful rugs on the floor and throw some pillows on the bed in bright jewel colors.

I was just browsing around and found a website that has some interesting ideas on how to select art work for your walls: http://www.become.com/hub/collectibles-art/paintings-art-sculpture/tips-for-choosing-home-decor-artwork/

Would an 18 year old girl be able to afford an apartment in Austin?

Would a typical 18 year old college student be able to afford an apartment in Austin?

Should I just get a room-mate instead?

Answer
It depends where you're willing to live. I've had apartments off of Cameron Road (Wildwood Apts) and off of Metric Blvd (Trails of Walnut Creek). Both of these were older apartments in what I considered to be safe areas and the cost was around $550 for a one bedroom.

Expect to pay 800-1200 for a one bedroom in newer apartments. The cost will rise as you go closer to downtown. A studio, sometimes hard to find, will knock a couple hundred dollars off.

Look at apartments.com and austin craigslist to get an idea of rental prices. Anywhere you look, check out the area in the day and night time and see what kind of vibe you get.

I've had a lot of roommates, some good, some bad. If faced with leasing alongside someone I didn't know, I would find the cheapest, safest place on my own I could afford. Remember you're just as responsible for lease and damages should they bail or wreck havoc. Bad credit will mess you up.

The benefit, of course, to having a reliable roommate is that not all of your money is tied up in rent. Leaving you money to go do things or just not stress about making rent each month.

How to invite a girl over to apartment to hang out with nothing to do?

FSBB

I am a college sophomore. I live in a dorm room like everyone else, but at my school, sophomores live in apartment style dorms, meaning we have a kitchen, bedroom, and main room.

It has a lot of space, but no furniture or things to do. All the school provided in this dorm was a desk and a desk chair for each person. I did buy a futon, a TV, and a stool to sit on when eating at the countertop (we have no table or anywhere to eat).

I want to invite this girl I like over, but I don't know. There is literally nothing to do. I was thinking we could cook food together (always fun with me haha), but there's nowhere to sit and eat. Like I said, I have one stool for the countertop. Or we could sit on the futon in the main room and watch TV or music videos or something, but my roommate has no friends so he doesn't leave ever and there's nowhere for him to go. he would be in the room. And of course, the bedroom has no light and the Wifi sucks in there.....we literally just sleep in there.

What are your thoughts? Should I still invite her over? What ideas do you have?

Answer
Get some furniture if you expect her to ever want to do that...

(I'm 13 and I love to dream big) You know how The Barbie Company and Bratz Company has every item for girls and teens. From dolls to shampoos to clothes to shoes to accessories to bedrooms to movies to kitchen appliances (I know!) to beauty items to make-up to online games to websites to video games to tv series to backpacks and everything else! What's next: A real Barbie car for a human! (Don't tell me they already made that!)

I want my GI-NORMOUS, multi-billion international business/corporation to be better then The Barbie/Bratz Company and I will aim the audience specifically at tween and teen girls And plus I'll call it something else (well duh!). I'm probably thinking of calling mine Girly Girls or something like that! I want to be the next Doll Diva!!!!

How do I get started, I am completely CLUELESS!?

Sorry if I seem unspecific!

But how do I get things planned out!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
If there's a picture in your head of what your dolls or accessories look like then go with it, but see what other people think before you commit to a product or you'll be selling something nobody really wants.
Either people will LOVE it or you should forget it.

Girls already have Barbie and Bratz and there are a million other dolls out there already for them to choose from, so what makes yours so special? But when Bratz came onto the scene everyone thought there was no room for yet another doll, but Bratz had a whole new look (okay so maybe they're a little risque) that made them an overnight sensation.

I'd say that 13 is far too young to be thinking about starting a business, but there are a lot of teenagers who started out in little back-bedroom ventures that turned into real success stories, so if you are serious about it and it's something you're prepared to work and suffer for, then go for it.

Start small; think of your business as being like making a burger: First the bun, then the burger, and when you've got those basics you can start dressing it up with a slice of cheese, the salad, the ketchup and the side-order. But you've got to start simple.

When I was a kid I had this idea of making cards like Top Trumps (I don't know if you get those in the USA) but using monsters instead that would fight each other as a card game... I decided it was silly, but several years later what happened? POKEMON! It just goes to show :-)

You can't really plan yet, just have fun and enjoy creating designs on paper or on the PC - do some research on how to make all this stuff too, and when your prototype that cost $20 to make can be made for $2, you're ready to think about selling for real.

Does anyone have any pictures or ideas for a techno-style bedroom?

adagio_75

My 15 year old sister-in-law wants to change her bedroom design from a mostly leopard print theme to techno. I want to help her but I really don't know what techno design for a room would look like. She doesn't have alot of money to completely refurnish the room so items like her leopard print area rug, leopard print lamp shades and picture frames will have to be used. Any ideas or pictures would be great.

Answer
When I think of a techno style bedroom I think of lots of fun bright cheery colors with nice white sleek backdrop. For a techno styled bedroom; you could do a modern look. Go for clean, straight lines if possible. I would go for a white or neutral backdrop with pops of color. If some new furniture pieces are in your budget look for white furniture (bed frame, dresser, desk, nightstand)or you can repurpose old furniture and paint it white. For accessories look for bright colors like orange (for a lamp; canât afford a new lamp you can take an existing lamp, sand it down and spray paint it in an high gloss orange (or whatever bright colors she likes), yellow (picture frames, pillows), and green (pillows, vases for flowers, etc.). If she doesnât like those colors, you can do any color combo that she will like. You can find a cheap/good looking area rug @ Wal-mart in white, but if you donât look for white (or another color) bath rugs and connect them together with carpet tape to make a large area rug. You can also change out the lamp shades for a cheap cost or you can cover existing lamp shades with fabric to match the new room décor. For the walls you can blow up her favorite DJ album covers and frame them; or you can get vector silhouettes of DJâs like this : http://garcya.us/blog/free-dj-vector-graphic-art/ or http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/2286211/2/istockphoto_2286211_dj_at_turntable or http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/4306917/2/istockphoto_4306917_dj_silhouette.jpg or http://www.smashingmagazine.com/images/iconsnew/bittbox.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5671904/2/istockphoto_5671904_beach_party.jpg or images like these and have them blown up to put them on the walls. You can also blow up varying silhouettes of dancers and put them on the wall (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5753237/2/istockphoto_5753237_spring_girl.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5768186/2/istockphoto_5768186_just_wanna_have ). Also music notes and headphones (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5481959/2/istockphoto_5481959_grunge_headphones.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5802696/2/istockphoto_5802696_headphones.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5881226/2/istockphoto_5881226_hand_drawn_musik_retro.jpg would be a cool option also. For bedding you can do something simple like white with a bright colored throw and pillows or bright colored bedding with white pillows and one bright colored accent pillow. Also for bedding you can do bedding in a fun solid color and do an image transfer of her favorite DJ or techno image. Hope this gives you a few ideas, good luck :)

What colors go with red walls?

Lalalalove

I just painted my room a cranberry red, and I'm trying to find accessories that will work well with it. I have a black and white bedspread and several other black & white accessories, but it's looking a little plain. Any suggestions? And also does anyone know any good sites to get bedroom accessories for teen girls? Thanks :)

Answer
Red can be dark so I tend to like to lighten it. I love Ralph Lauren Bedding, amongst others. Macy's is pricey but you might find this elsewhere so this is just an idea:

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=559621&CategoryID=7502&LinkType=PDPZ1

As for accessories, I would mix color from the bedding with metallic, like pewters.

How to invite a girl over to apartment to hang out with nothing to do?

bedroom ideas for college girls image

Any ideas on how to throw a cheap, but fun bachelorette party?

dsafweaaaa

I am a poor college student who is lucky enough to be the maid of honor! I was wondering if anyone had some fun and cheap (key word there being cheap) ideas for throwing a bachelorette party? THANKS!

Answer
well, first of all you need to get the other bridesmaids involved- they should SPLIT the costs with you completely! Just because you're the maid of honor doesn't mean you have to pay for everything!
For inexpensive party- find a good location to have it at, cheapest would be someones house, find someone that is within walking distance to a few bars perhaps so you guys can go out for a few drinks. start off at the house with drinks and appetizers, play fun games, have good tunes on, make your own decorations and games instead of buying them from the store. either you purchase everything and divide up the cost and have the other girls pay you back, otherwise assign people different duties to be responsable for. go to the dollar store and get some martini glasses- one for each person attending- go to the craft store and pick up a paint pen and decorate each glass with the bride and grooms names and the date of the wedding around the glass- you can even write each guests name on the base of the glass and have it as the party favor and a way to keep drinks from getting mixed up! get a paint pen in either the wedding colors or pink is always good! make a special batch of martini mix in a large pitcher or cooler jug for the night also and give it a dirty name like "G spot martini" heres a list of recipes http://www.drinksmixer.com/search/?q=martini&d=1&p=1
I made my own penis cake mold- I shaped a large penis from a big piece of foam I got from the craft store (you want the hard foam) then I took heavy duty foil and wrapped it around the mold real good in a few layers, then remove the foam and flip the foil over to make a cake pan- fit extra foil around the bottom to make it sturdy- then just bake you cake mix as directed- let it cool completly before removing it from the mold and then frost in a flesh tone frosting using food coloring and white frosting and use chocolate jimmies on the balls like hair! looks really good and saves you like $60 from getting a penis mold from the store!
make a "Tree of Wisdom" for the party. you take a few large branches (go to the park and find some dead branches or something) and put them in a vase so it looks like a tree. then make either paper hearts or penis's out of constuction paper and attach a small wire so you can hang them all from the tree. then each guest will write down words of wisdom for the bride to be on them- penis make it naughty words of bedroom advice, hearts make it more heartfelt words of marriage advice! looks really neat as a centerpiece also. another fun game is "stick it in" have one girl holding a broom stick between her knees and another girl blindfolded with a roll of toilet paper between her knees then the girl with the toilet paper tries to get it around the broom stick. make up triva questions about the happy couple or maybe just the bride, a word scramble you can do on your own also- just mix up a bunch of fun bacholorette type words. you can make up truth or dare cards as a fun game during the night also- you can even take them with you to the bars for even more dare laughs. pick up a few prizes from the dollar store to give to game winners like travel mugs, candles, or whatever you find that you know you would like to recieve as a prize- stay away from lotions and crap- we all have enough of that stuff right?!

a night camping with a few girls would be super fun too!
Hope all goes well- email if you have any questions- I am happy to help!

What do you need for a nursery?

Ryssa

I'm writing a story about two teens (they're eighteen and married) and they have a baby at the end of their first year of college. What's needed for a nursery? And maybe give me some cute theme ideas? By the way, the baby is a girl.

Answer
You would usually have a crib , a changing table , some toys , soft toys , clothes in a wardrobe , crib mobiles , baby books , pictures on the wall .
Here are some theme ideas ( off a website )

â¼ Lady Bug Nursery

A popular baby girl nursery theme today is a lady bug nursery. You might want to begin by purchasing a crib set to use as a pattern to paint and decorate the room.

You can find stencils in lady bug designs, add posters, and even stick on lady bugs to complete the look. Even if you aren't an artist, you can project the image of a lady bug on the wall and paint it. Another great idea is to hire someone to do a mural of lady bugs playing in a garden or buzzing around some flowers .

â¼ Bugs and Bees

Your little darling will love being surrounded by whimsical bugs and bees. With so many bugs to choose from, you should have no problem choosing this theme. Bees, butterflies, caterpillars, and worms are popular choices, and they are easy to recreate on paintings and other wall art as well .

â¼ Celestial Themes

Help your little one fly off to dreamland with a celestial baby girl nursery theme. These themes can include planets, moons, stars, and even constellations. You can copy the pattern onto your ceiling, using pastels, whites, and blues. You should be able to find lamps, picture frames, and wall decorations in this theme as well.

Toile Designs
If you are looking for an elegant way to decorate your baby's nursery, you might want to consider a toile design for her room. Toile patterns may focus on red, white, pink, yellow, green, and even pastel blue colors.

â¼ Patchwork and Plaid

Patchwork or plaid designs make great baby girl nursery themes. It's easy to build off of either one of these patterns, choosing the main color and accent colors from the colors of the patchwork or plaid on a crib set, blanket, or comforter. You should be able to color match the crib set at local paint and hardware stores, such as Home Depot, Lowe's and Sherwin-Williams.

â¼ Frog Baby Girl Nursery Themes

Little girls are just as enamored of frogs as little boys, so don't overlook this great baby girl nursery theme! Choose from designs that only feature frogs to designs with lots of other friendly creatures, such as turtles, lizards, dragonflies, and even snakes.

â¼ Character Themes

Of course, character nursery themes are eternal favorites for parents and children. You can usually find lots of great accessories, and there are so many to choose from, including the following:

Hello Kitty
Precious Moments
Pooh's Portraits

Decorating a nursery for your new baby can be a fun and exciting experience. It will be the first place for your baby to dream, to experience, and to grow. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Location. Calm surroundings are critical to a newborn's development. Avoid room's that are close to a busy street, where there could be more noise. Will the baby's room be on the same floor as your bedroom ? This makes it more convenient to monitor your baby. However, you can always opt for an audio or video monitor.

Time to decorate! Choosing a particular theme and design for your baby room depends on how much you want to spend, how much space you have, and whether it's a boy or a girl. To be safe, you can always go for gender-neutral colors such as greens, purples, and reds.

Choosing a theme. Now it's time to let your imagination run wild. To get some ideas, visit a few baby stores and check out different styles. They may even have example rooms set up that you can check out. Take a look at the following nursery themes to get a few ideas rolling.

Animals. This motif could include kittens, puppies, farm scenes, or teddy bears. This is a common theme that can easily be found in stores. You could purchase everything from the sheet and comforter set to coordinating wall hangings and wall paper.

Cartoon / TV Characters. The options are numerous here. Winnie the Pooh, Spiderman, Aladdin, Curious George, Bugs Bunny, Snoopy, and Peter Pan are just a few examples.

Noah's Ark. This a popular theme with plenty of designs to choose from. You can accessorize with animal pictures, a nursery lamp, bedding, and even a rocking chair.

Dolphins or other underwater scenes. This theme will add a cool, refreshing feeling to your new baby room. The cool colors will also be comforting for you baby. For decorating, you could use a Finding Nemo theme, sea-related wall hangings, sea shells, a border with waves, or even sea horses.

Crayons. Remember how much fun crayons use to be. Introduce your child to a new and creative world with this theme. You could use accents in the shape of hand prints or stencil of your choice. Place these on the walls, window frames, closet door, or even the lamp shade. Looking for the perfect paint. Crayola has come out with paints with their colors made specifically for the baby's room.

Whichever design you choose, use inexpensive stain-

What color should I paint my bedroom?

Har

Hi! I'm a 13 year old girl... and if this helps... im not a girly girl or a tom-boy. Right now my walls are yellow (thats the way they were when my family moved into the house). I want to change them but i dont no what color to choose. My favorite color is blue... but i want my room to feel warm. So no really cold colors, and i always loove to feel cozy! I always wear t-shirts and fuzzy socks!! hehe.

Thank you!

Answer
Blue and brown are beautiful together, and you get the color you love and the warmth you desire. It is a popular color combo right now and there are plenty of bedding sets available with those colors. I would suggest finding the bedding first, then take a piece of the blue fabric to the paint store and have it color matched. Or if you find a brown and ivory bed set, get Shiloh Blue paint from Walmart, I have it on my walls and it's soothing, and more adult than a baby blue. It looks gray in the store on the paint card, in fact it's on a gray paint card, but it is a beautiful blue on the wall. I have it in my living room with brown microfiber sofa and chair, it looks great together, always get compliments on it. I've seen really soft fabrics like microfibers in bedding just about everywhere, they would feel luscious and cozy and look great with the blue walls. Add some ivory for balance in your accessories. I think you will love it once you see it all together.

What are some cute ways to ask a guy (boyfriend) to turnabout?

Christine

Turnabout is a dance where girls ask the guys, kind of like homecoming. Except homecoming the guys ask. Well I was wondering what do you think is a cute idea for me to do when I ask my boyfriend?

Answer
Here's some of my favorite ways to ask my boyfriend:

Set up a scavenger hunt with clues. If you can leave clues both at school and in his house, it's even better. All the clues should lead to him to someplace cute, with you waiting for him there, holding a poster or a present or something that says, "Will you go to turnabout with me?" I waited in his bedroom and decorated with a Tarzan theme, because I wanted to go as Tarzan and Jane.

You can deliver him a gift. One year I bought a stuffed frog that said, "Of all the froggies in the lake, it is my prince I want to take!" and snuck it into his car. You could also do a whale and say, "We'd have a whale of a time!" or something. Be creative!

You could bake him a cake and write the question in icing on the top, or insert a note into it so that he finds it when he eats it all. You could also sneak it into his lunch.

One year I asked the cheer squad to hold up a huge sign that said, "Will you go with me [his name]? Love, [my name]" during a football game's halftime. We were sitting in the stands and he was so surprised when he read it. You could do it for any spectator sport that's going on at your school right now.

good luck!!

How should i go about redecorating my entire bedroom?

Aria

I've been living very minimally for the past two years. I still live with my parents, but have a steady job. I work solely for the purpose of being able to help the less fortunate. Please don't judge me, its just what i love doing. My 27th birthday is just around the corner, and as a gift my parents have given me a large sum of money to go towards giving me an amazing bedroom makeover. I can't use this for anything other the for my room, and i've accepted that (thought its hard not to just give it away to somebody else, i'm so used to that lifestyle.) I've actually been dreaming about a new bedroom for years, and now have the opportunity to turn my dream into a reality. But i am not the best at decorating or redecorating, and that's where i need all your help.

- When i'm not working, i'm reading or writing, mostly fairytale related things.

- Wintertime is the only time when i truly come alive and am inspired. Something about the weather outside being cold/miserable and windy, that does something to me, though i don't understand why.

- My favourite colours are Chocolate & White (together,) and This very dark green i can't really explain. I've seen it used many times in game/rumpus rooms & dens though.

- All the fairytales i've read & watched, i've always daydreamed about my room being set in a certain era. I'm obsessed with king arthur, and if i could, i'd redesign an entire house dedicated to that era.

- I'm a real daydreamer, and i daydream in fairytales. I still fantasize about being a commoner (which i am,) being able to catch the eye of a prince, who doesn't care about my rank, is in love with me, and will marry me, even if i were a mere serving girl... (i'm oddly obsessed with royalty, and would like to have a room like this someday perhaps, though i'd feel odd about it, knowing how i'm living, and others out there are starving.)

- I like filming/photography, but they're NOT as important as reading & writing.

- I am neither girlie, nor a tomboy, very in the middle, neutral

- I still want a level of minimalism, simplicity, etc

- I'm worry too much over people, my animals, etc (maybe throw some blue in there for me lol.)

- I have a fixation for anything Uk. Not really into harry potter now, but there was a time, where all i wanted was to live in that kind of world, you see in their movies (minus the magic.) The castle, the rainy/gloomy weather, streetlamps flickering at night, snowfall, etc... I still want this more than ever!
Forgot to mention...

What would be the appropriate ornaments to purchase? Colour scheme? An actual theme? Etc.

Answer
I'm thinking a poster bed with white sheer linens flowing from it along the top, not necessarily in any sort of a symmetrical fashion. Probably not lace. Simple sheer in triangles or rectangles maybe hanging in handkerchief fashion. Or long flowing sheers. Or sheers that flow into the corners and wrap up around the posts with a large ribbon with a long streamer.. The furniture rich brown. The comforter in a forest green, with brown gold running through it. The walls in blue, with pin stripe alternating white and brown. Or just solid blue teal or aqua. Like Gliddens Bermuda Blue. I like Glid. Leather Brown on the walls with something like the Glid. Bermuda Blue for the comforter, with colors gold or brown, white, forest green running through it in swirls of some sort. The furniture antique white. Nix white ceilings. Bring in white lights to sparkle on your bed. I think they have low wattage kind for such a thing. If not with the sheers, which i would really think could be done, maybe a big plant like a Tree, not so much for the leaves, artificial i mean, for the structure, that you can wrap lights around in a corner somewhere too, for atmosphere. Or both. Glid. Blue Marina is pretty. Maybe that for the walls, the furniture rich brown. You could search for the comforter in the rich forest green, and try to find gold tones running through it. If it has blue in it, then you have to match that blue for the walls. Just examples. Blue Marina is a pretty grey blue. It would be serene i think. You know what you like. Probably start with the comforter. Then go from there with the colors. Just alternate them. Perhaps white furniture with the white sheers and and accent of another color, either found in the comforter, or one not used anywhere, that you like, like the rich forest green. Your colors will all work together. The comforter, then perhaps the carpet. Home Depot can match paint colors from a comforter. Just watch and let them know it is brand new and to please be careful with it. They should not have to take it completely out of its shield. Shop. If you have the money to play with, and you like a comforter then get it. You can take it back if you fall in love with another. It should all come together. I would have glass accessories. I have a vision in my head of something i am sure i saw at TJMax. An antique white old fashioned lamp look w/ metal wrapping around it. Good for like a corner of a brown bureau. Old books, found at a thrift store stacked next to it. Going towards shabby chic, since you like the old era of like King Arthur and Avalon, or a Harry Potter-like era. Draperies, that hang to the floor, touching the floor elegantly. The carpet will be important. I think wood would be better with a large area rug that is near your bed for when you get in and out of it. The coloring will be some work. But it does not have to be solid. Just watch the mix between the rug and the comforter. They can't both be dramatic. You could maybe have sconces put in the room, or just look like sconces without actually electrical lighting. You mentioned pets. So probably no candles, but that would be nice. Perhaps sconces that can be up and away and that can be closed a bit, and take in candles with confidence. I am sure there must be something out there like that. Nice for atmosphere while you read your tales and lore. Along with the lights on the bed. Not flashing lights. Still lights. White. You have your colors. You know your theme... your theme is you... and your fantasy world.... Go shopping... just look around and you will be drawn to things. You don't have to buy it all at once and there, its done. Build on it. Discover yourself. Just let it happen. Take that time for yourself to discover yourself. Go alone a lot. Take you time; there's no hurry. If you have that fun money, have fun. I see things and I don't get them sometimes and then I regret it. Maybe I thought it was just a little more than what I would want to pay for it.... but if you like it get it... you can take it back. It may not fit in. Just know the return policy. Keep that receipt. You are into fantasy periods too, with horses, dragons, unicorns. Some of those things may strike your fancy as you shop. Something delightful. Magical. You will know when you see it. I sometimes get neurotic about things, its got this little flaw on it... then I go back and it's gone. You may get over that little flaw, you may not. But if you are somewhere like TJ Max, you may never see it again. Grab it, take it back if change your mind. TJ Max in the next town may have it. They will hold it til later while you check. You have so much idea. You just have to shop. You already know what you want. Explore it now. It'll be fun. Let it come together as you explore. If you like it, it will work. Live your secret dream now....

I've been wanting to jazz up my bedroom for ages now but I never have any money to go buy things that cost way more then they're worth. So if you have any DIY ideas or know of any DIY blogs please comment. I love making things and doing a bit of crafts. *side note* I love the gypsy style. If it has bright colours, bells or ribbons I'm all over it.

Answer
if i were u,i would splash paint all over my wall but sadly, that could be dangerous as there is no guarantee that it will turn out well.

what you COULD do is get ordinary paint, normal furniture and paint it all colourful. try out red, white and pink roses like this:
http://img3.etsystatic.com/014/0/6313612/il_340x270.411078891_qnv1.jpg
or you could try this:
http://cdn.followpics.com/show/190628996696844982_WgKN1JCp_c.jpg
hope you're a good artist... :)

it would do well to paint your room a bright pink and add some brown to reduce the girly-girl effect and it's time you bought some junk jewellery to display in your room.

all the best!!!! hope u have fun...

I have a really small room. I'm 12 and my furnture is really childish to me, my mom says we can't afford to get me new furniture until I'm much older. If I cant get new furniture i would like to find a way to make my room look better. I have neon green walls and I LOVE zebra stripes! Please give me easy and super cheap decorating ideas. :)

Answer
Hi,
What color is your furniture? You could paint it. I painted my dresser with gold metallic acrylic paint from Micheal's. I think the paint is 5 dollars for a big bottle, and they have every color you could ever want. You can get two different colors and paint one all over the furniture and use one with a stencil- I bet you can even find a zebra print stencil! To tie the room together, use the same stencil on the walls as you use on the furniture. Also, you can put rhinestones on your walls and furniture. They sell big rhinestone buttons at Wal-Mart. Just take the backs off of them, and glue them to anything you want. Kohl's and Target have cute comforters for about 30 dollars, and a new comforter can make you feel like you have a whole new room! Finally, try placing your furniture differently. Even something simple like that can give a room a whole new look. Good luck. :)

Answer
Well first, paint it whatever color you want. Then find a bed set that goes with the color on your wall. Maybe add a cute fluffy rug. Add a couple of posters/paintings on your wall (make sure it matches the color). Add some accessories here and there. Make sure it fits your personality!
Here are some pictures for ideas:

where can i find it? thank you!!

Answer
I don't recognize the wallpaper offhand but...
Normally sites like that post where you can find the pieces in the picture, but it's just a blog for design ideas. Just go to the site: http://homeklondike.com/contact/
Type in your info and under 'message': ask them if they have any information about the wallpaper you are interested in, provide them with the direct link to the post you found this in. Not the picture you gave us, that's just a jpeg. They need the link so they can see what date it was posted and what it's under for them to help you.

Good Luck!

Painting a small room to be an office space?

beautiful bedroom ideas small rooms image

ashleyyy

Right now it's a lime green. Is a small bedroom that I'm planning on turning into an office space. I want something calming but not a pastel, but I don't want it to be so dark that it makes the room smaller. It doesn't have the best lighting. I was thinking a taupe or a medium grey with blue undertones. Any ideas?

Answer
We painted a small room in a lighter shade of milk chocolate with white wood trim. I thought it would look smaller but it really doesn't. You can accent with any color -- red, blue, or an entire accent wall in a lighter color or even mirrors if your budget allows. Good luck, I hope it looks beautiful regardless of your color choice!

What are some good ideas to "stage" a home that is for sale?

Jade

I am packing everything personal up,cleaning and organizing but I need some simple and elegant ideas to "stage" the home so that it is more appealing to buyers.

Answer
1. Clean - it is the most important step. Make sure every nook and cranny of your home is spotless. This also includes cleaning out your garage if you have one.

2. De-clutter - Not only should you remove obvious clutter (like papers strewn on a desk) but you have to think about furniture as well. Too often people have too much furniture in a room. It makes the room appear small. If, for example, you are 2 dressers in your bedroom, pare it down to one. Put the other dresser and contents not used currently (season clothing) into storage.

An often missed area for decluttering,is the inside of dressers, cabinets, and closets. Hard to believe that some buyers would look in your dressers since they are not buying them but they do. They are also trying to assess if they will have enough cabinet storage and closet space. If your cabinets are chock full of stuff, it gives them the impression that they will not have enough storage if they buy the house.

In the kitchen, don't forget that decluttering also means clearing off countertops as much as possible. If you don't eat toast everyday, pack the toaster away. Same goes for other kitchen appliances that we may keep on the counter for convenience even though we don't use them daily. (Pack away that electric can opener and use a hand held one until you sell the house.)

3. Deodorize - Make sure your house smells fresh, clean and inviting. This may mean spraying Febreeze on your sofa, drapes, etc. You can add pleasant odors with candles and/or fresh baked goods.

4. De-personalize - Pack away personal items like family photos. Replace them with neutral art work. You want prospective buyers to see themselves living in your home, not your family.

5. Neutralize - It may be time to paint that gorgeous red wall beige. Though it may go well with your decor and taste, remember that not all buyers make like what you've selected. If you go with neutral wall colors, again it makes it easier for the potential buyer to see him/herself living in your space. This also includes rooms that are very masculine or feminine. It may work better for you if you replace your beautiful floral bedspread with something that is more gender neutral.

6. Update/Modernize - You don't have to spend a lot of money here but you should look at things like lighting. Are your bathroom lights for example current looking or do they scream 1970s-80s? Same goes for kitchen, dining and hallways. For a few bucks, you can make a huge impact for the positive.

7. Curb Appeal - Don't forget that a lot of buyers will not come into your home, no matter how great it looks on the inside, if they are not impressed with the exterior. Again, this can be accomplished on the cheap. Cut the lawn, pull the weeds, remove dead plants, plant pretty potted flowers and put them on the porch, paint the front door if necessary.

How dated are your exterior light fixtures? Again, something newer but not necessarily expensive could make a world of difference.

Buy a nice new welcome mat to invite the guests in.

If you have a deck or patio, don't forget to embellish this usable square footage of your home. Clean the deck or patio, remove what is not necessarily essential (perhaps the grill if it is not in outstanding condition, or cheap plastic chairs). Stage the area so that it is inviting - you can purchase inexpensive patio furniture, or if the area is small, you can get a nice cheap bistro set for under $100.

8. Choose Real over Fake - If you have any silk or plastic flowers/trees, remove them from the house. If you love them, pack them away. Put real plants/trees in their place. Put fresh flowers out as that not only is beautiful but it helps with odor control.

Have fun with the project. Look at it as an opportunity to get a head start on packing. Just remember that it is called "staging" because it is all an act. That is, it is not how you live day to day (you probably don't keep your dining table set for a party of 6 unless you are actually planning on using it that day but setting it for an open house sets the stage for how the potential buyer can entertain in the home.) Best of Luck.
