Greetings Yahoo! Answers.

My husband and I recently purchased a bedroom set and a gorgeous set of sheets. Unfortunately we have no idea how to decorate this room. The walls are currently a light creamy beige with white faux wood window blinds.

Can you please suggest some painting colors, techniques and other decor ideas that can transform our bedroom into a beautiful and modern/contemporary relaxing escape.

Thanks! :D

Answer
a rich red/orange wall accent with a nice earth tone brown will go nice on the walls to accent the furniture and beddings ... try imaging the walls in two tone colors.

My friend just move into her new house, and in one of the rooms had similar specs as your's, that's what she did and it looked great, i'm sorry I don't have pictures though...

What color of paint is modern and cozy?

rkunca01

My husband and I just bought a beautiful 4 br 2 ba home. The whole interior needs a new coat of paint. Any ideas on colors or designs? We both know how to paint but very confused when it comes to interior design. Thanks for help!

Answer
Chocolate brown can be quite cozy in a lounge, and you can always lighten it up in the summer by having beige cushions or seat covers.

It really is a matter of taste though, as some people think the colour is ghastly. Don't go for a really dark brown, you might as well paint it all black.

Red's a traditional cozy colour, but can be quite intimidating for males especially in the bedroom.

Whatever colour you do pick, make sure that you can lighten it up for the summer, as unless coupled with beige brown can make a room feel claustrophobic and hot in warm weather.

Light colours or yellows and blues will work for bathrooms. Greens and blues can work if they are not particularly ferocious.

Kitchens should be pale, and neither hot or cold. Try peach/yellow coupled with an assortment of coloured tiles for the walls to add a funky and modern feel that is contemporary and cozy. Make sure the tiles match the paint though!

Hallways should be neutral, as you generally pass through them. Lilacs, reds and oranges work (not together) as they are welcoming. Remember that this is the first room, other than the porch, that your guests will see.

If you have a porch, try mellow and low key colours. It does not need to be welcoming, you only use it to hang coats and put shoes in. Cheap prints can really make a porch feel nice, and make it feel although it is still part of the house without much work on your part.

I mentioned bedrooms and lounges earlier, in the earlier paragraphs. Utility rooms should be light and bright. Guest rooms should be neutral, whites or yellows often work well. You can dress white up with nice furniture to make the room feel more loved.

If in doubt on any room try to focus on curtains/material that you like. Match colours from existing furniture, artwork, upholstery and carpets. You may find this easier.

Modern themes tend to be pale, with bright and funky accessories. Interior designers are currently following the theory that it is the artwork ect that make the room what it is rather than having bright colours on the walls which flit in and out of fashion constantly.

What are some cute ideas for my new apartment?

bedroom decorating ideas for college girls image
Q. I'm going off to college this fall, and I'm living in a student housing type apartment. I'll be living with 3 other girls, but my own bedroom will be about 10x12. It already comes with a full size bed, armoire, desk, and nightstand. What are some themes and cute things I can do to decorate my room? Where would I find pictures of dorm-like examples?

Answer
HGTV always has great ideas and videos you can watch.
I like to decorate with fashion aswell as function in mind meaning that since your in school you can find ways that will be stylish aswell as helpful.

Throw some wall shelves and some memo boards in your place and it's a good way to display pics aswell as leave important notes that you might forget when walking out the door. If your thinking about color always go with the 60/30/10 rule..can't go wrong with that..and like i said HGTV.com you can dabble with 60/30/10 color schemes.

check it out and good luck.!

Any ideas on how to throw a cheap, but fun bachelorette party?

dsafweaaaa

I am a poor college student who is lucky enough to be the maid of honor! I was wondering if anyone had some fun and cheap (key word there being cheap) ideas for throwing a bachelorette party? THANKS!

Answer
well, first of all you need to get the other bridesmaids involved- they should SPLIT the costs with you completely! Just because you're the maid of honor doesn't mean you have to pay for everything!
For inexpensive party- find a good location to have it at, cheapest would be someones house, find someone that is within walking distance to a few bars perhaps so you guys can go out for a few drinks. start off at the house with drinks and appetizers, play fun games, have good tunes on, make your own decorations and games instead of buying them from the store. either you purchase everything and divide up the cost and have the other girls pay you back, otherwise assign people different duties to be responsable for. go to the dollar store and get some martini glasses- one for each person attending- go to the craft store and pick up a paint pen and decorate each glass with the bride and grooms names and the date of the wedding around the glass- you can even write each guests name on the base of the glass and have it as the party favor and a way to keep drinks from getting mixed up! get a paint pen in either the wedding colors or pink is always good! make a special batch of martini mix in a large pitcher or cooler jug for the night also and give it a dirty name like "G spot martini" heres a list of recipes http://www.drinksmixer.com/search/?q=martini&d=1&p=1
I made my own penis cake mold- I shaped a large penis from a big piece of foam I got from the craft store (you want the hard foam) then I took heavy duty foil and wrapped it around the mold real good in a few layers, then remove the foam and flip the foil over to make a cake pan- fit extra foil around the bottom to make it sturdy- then just bake you cake mix as directed- let it cool completly before removing it from the mold and then frost in a flesh tone frosting using food coloring and white frosting and use chocolate jimmies on the balls like hair! looks really good and saves you like $60 from getting a penis mold from the store!
make a "Tree of Wisdom" for the party. you take a few large branches (go to the park and find some dead branches or something) and put them in a vase so it looks like a tree. then make either paper hearts or penis's out of constuction paper and attach a small wire so you can hang them all from the tree. then each guest will write down words of wisdom for the bride to be on them- penis make it naughty words of bedroom advice, hearts make it more heartfelt words of marriage advice! looks really neat as a centerpiece also. another fun game is "stick it in" have one girl holding a broom stick between her knees and another girl blindfolded with a roll of toilet paper between her knees then the girl with the toilet paper tries to get it around the broom stick. make up triva questions about the happy couple or maybe just the bride, a word scramble you can do on your own also- just mix up a bunch of fun bacholorette type words. you can make up truth or dare cards as a fun game during the night also- you can even take them with you to the bars for even more dare laughs. pick up a few prizes from the dollar store to give to game winners like travel mugs, candles, or whatever you find that you know you would like to recieve as a prize- stay away from lotions and crap- we all have enough of that stuff right?!

a night camping with a few girls would be super fun too!
Hope all goes well- email if you have any questions- I am happy to help!

How will you educate your children?

bedroom designs for girls children image

Fabian Sch

What do you plan for your child? Do you have any plans? Will you let them do sports early? What about languages? What gender do you hope your child to be of? What will you do different if you get a boy / a girl? Have you learned from your own childhood and youth? What? Did you have any children yet and did you learn from this experience?
OK these are many questions, simply answer whatever gets into your mind, I consider this a brainstorming.

I'm still 14 years old so don't wonder whether I'm planning to have a child :P

Answer
To be honest I haven't really thought about it, having children isn't exactly top of my priorities list at the moment.

- Ideally I think I'd like two boys and a girl, with my son being the eldest.

- I will teach my children to be bilingual. My Grandmother is French but for some reason my father never taught me the language when I was younger, so I've had to learn it along the way (and still am) I'll make sure my children speak it as fluently as English. If I pick up any more languages before they arrive on the scene I'll teach them that as well.

- My family is quite musical and artistic (I started to play the piano when I was 2) so I'd like to introduce them to it at an early age just to see if they have an interest and/or talent for it and to develop it if they want to.

- I'll make sure that my children take to water like a fish. I grew up over-looking the sea from my bedroom window and spent countless hours in the water. Whether or not I raise my own children by the sea I'll at least make sure they know how to swim and can visit their local pool frequently.

- I'll gradually teach them to take hard work in their stride.

- Sports? I'd like them to be active and if they take an interest in a particular sport I'll encourage it but I'm not going to force them to participate. Just as long as they don't sit around all day I'll be content.

- I'll encourage a love of learning.

- I'll teach all of them to be able to hold themselves in a fight and to be independent. I was always "one of the guys" growing up and being able to rough it was a requirement. There was one child in our area who would fuss over every little thing from not getting his way, being denied a toy to cutting his knee and often stormed off with the phrase "I'm telling" he was not very popular and I wouldn't want my children to get the idea that they need to run to mummy and daddy for everything. I'd make sure they knew they could come to me, but to try and fend for themselves as well.

- As for school. I'm really not sure. I'm leaning towards a private school rather than a public one (if I can afford it) you learn more life lessons in a public school but I've also seen how it can destroy people and hold them back from their true potential. My cousin went completely off the rails in public school because of stress and peer pressure, my other cousin excelled in every way. I only attended public school for a few years but in the end I was home tutored as I was always moving around with my family, I did miss being with my peers. Being home tutored you can learn at your own pace and depth, you don't get the social benefits, but you do tend to have a richer depth of knowledge (so long as your serious in your studies) with public school you get the social benefits of interacting with peers and learning to grow emotionally, but you can only go as far in your studies as the school allows and the school allows a very narrow margin designed to fit the "average student" you're held back if you're above it and you're left to struggle if you're below it. Private school seems to be the middle ground.
The other option being a Grammar School.

- I'll encourage them to be extroverts.

- I'll teach them to be respectful, especially to elders.

Edit the child's room that resembles the sea floor, use all the bright colors, textures, three-dimensional design. Your child certainly has a lot of good ideas.

Before you do anything with the regulation of children's rooms, check with your child to the local library, look at the literature and together choose the fish, seaweed, snails, rocks, jewelry who would like to have a child in the room. I am 15 years old and i am planning to redo my bedroom.
I am an only child so i can kinda do w/e

I am looking for a very girly look... but nothign to young.

I want a pink net over my bed... but i don't know what to do with my bed at the moment. Right now it's a boxspring and matress on the ground

any idea or photos would be very helpful and point will be destributed

Answer
ok my 15 yr old is sitting here telling me to let you know that:
15 year old looking to change up her bedroom?

Posters will work, or how about taking lots of pictures of yourself and your friends and put them on the wall.

She just had the SAME problem. We live in a rental..so drastic paiting is OUT for us . what she just did was she went to the dollar store and buy a bunch of frames. put pics of ur friends and fam. She is totally into black and white and pink .maybe put some posters up of celebrities, animals . She just
bought a black rug..She has NO carpet in her room. i got black and white frames...and a black mesh cover to go over my closet. And pink mesh to go over her bed. i got a white bed cover..with a lot of black and white and pink pillows. it looks soooo SWEET! the good thing is with black and white..you can add little splashes of color in..like she added a pink tee light candle holder. well.ur 15... around her ageTry coverring your ceiling.. maybe some black fabric that you paint designs on. or a collection of bandana's (hankies) you can find really cool ones with skulls and flames. or start a collection from Hot Topic. For your walls, posters are a classic, but maybe hit a thrift store and find old cd covers and frame a bunch of them.

Some of the sticker machines have some really fun bumper stickers and such. again frame them in large poster frames (so you aren't messing up the walls with holes or stickers)
She bough peg board to fit one wall so she can hang photos, posters and miscellanous items on without messing the wall up.
As for your bed you can get slates of wood, ask your dad for the correct size, then build a base for the bed, your bed is still close to the floor, but mattress not on it.
Have fun and use things that you love!

What color should I paint the walls in a bedroom with light wood floor, a earthy-brown bed and lots of light?

kypbassen

I need to paint my bedroom because i can't stand having white walls and I wanted other peoples opinions on what color would go well in a room that has light wooden floors, a earthy-brown bedspread with maroon sheets and gets lots of sunlight during the day. I'm trying to get some new idea's that would go well and make the room look a little nicer than it currently does.

Answer
I can give you thrree thoughts but i havent seen the room cause ceiling height and base board color plays a part too. Thought one which is easy painting, a very deep red which will absorb the light and enhance your comfort set. thought number two, A nice yellow such as honey (girls like it) but this takes a tone down which requires a tinted glaze, such as brown or even deep red, (your local paint department should have pamplets on how to do it yourself.) I know it sounds crazy but ive seen it, NICE.. My final thought is to to take something in your design of the room (example the color of a shirt in a picture on the wall, or a less noticed color in the comfort set) and paint one wall that color, perferable one that has the window or windows or big furniture up against it and then pic a earthy tone that is a lighter shade.. If I sound crazy, than my other answer is to go to the paint store and gather some pamplets on painting.

Well if you go on facebook and look up this certain person but i can't give you a link to his account because it's private to strangers. Anyways his pictures are totally fake i can even look them up on google. He took pictures of his house and it was like a purple girl room and it didn't even look like he took the photo. I'll give the link at the bottom of the photo i mean average people don't take photos that good. And his profile pictures are fake too. There like pictures of emo guys and his friends are like "is that you?" And then the faker put "yes it is". I'm not trying to do any harm or anything i just don't like that people are being lied to.

Please share your decorating ideas for a toddler's room?

bubbliebub

Can you share some of your decorating tips and design ideas for a child's/toddler's room? I'm looking to add some decorative touches to my daughters bedroom and I've reached a point where I'm out of ideas but her room still looks bare.

Answer
it depends - if you decorate it now, do you have intention of doing so in the future? if not, paint it a nice neutral pale colour. and i suggest wall stickers- you can get loads: in her favorite animals, characters of other random things. Then if she doesnt like it you can change them!
If you want to be a little creative, maybe put her bed by a feature wall - and fill it with rainbows - butterflies, little quirky things she likes.
fairy lights are fun too - you can hang them at the top of the walls so at nighttime she doesnt get scared - the same with sticky glow in the dark stars - but these can be a pain to take off.
Just go a bit wild - if its your little girl then make it all fun and cheerful. maybe you two can make little pictures together out of finger paint or collage and hang them up in a corner of her room - that way she'll feel like she helped to decorate her room too :)

Kel Lee

I really want to theme my room with paramore. Its kind of small, and i really want it to have that new york artists studio apartment bedroom feel. I cant paint my room dark colors, and any bright colors have to be approved by my landlord. Any ideas?

Answer
I love paramore too. I guess it depends on which cd cover you are wanting to channel to get the paramore feeling into your room. Personally my favorite is the All We Know is Falling cover - it is really beautiful. Then there is the graffiti black and red type design for the Riot cover or the neutrals with the butterfly for the Brand New Eyes cover.

If you want to somehow mix all three very different looks you could try something bold such as a "night sky blue" comforter with a red chair (All We Know) and black accents (All We Know and Riot). You could then mix in butterflies (Brand New Eyes) and graffiti (Riot) in your art work for example as well as of course pics of the band themselves. :)

Good luck with everything!

I need help adding small touches to the decorations in my bedroom. I don't like candles very much. My room is bright blue, green, pink, and orange. I want decorations that aren't the common decorations you see in every other bedroom. Does anyone have ideas?

Thanks!

Answer
Get crafty.

Piece together plastic canvas in colors that go with your room... (or cover them in fabric) ....Then use cardstock from the scrapbook store to make your own photo frames to hang onto the wall.
Just use two pieces of plastic canvas. Cut out the middle of one then cover both with the same fabric. Insert a piece of cardstock to make your own custom funky picture frames.
You can fashion these anyway you wish... the possibilites are endless. Your friends will want some as soon as they see them.
Get creative.

You could also decoupage... This simply means you buy some decoupage glue.... put the glue down first... then add the paper you want.... let dry.
Come back later and cover with a couple more coats of the glue.
This gives a very cool look.

If you want to make the item look 'antique'.... simply rub it with a tea bag first.... let dry ...then add the first coat of glue. Add paper... rub with tea bag all over again. Then add the next coat of glue.

Find some funky boxes with lids. Shoe boxes would work fine. Cover in fabric and stack in a corner as high as you wish. This is a great storage option and will look pretty too. If you want to cover them with something that will wipe clean... use wall paper or vinyl that you cut off an old couch ... be a salvager. Look for free stuff that is being thrown away and make something beautiful out of it.

You could make funky decorative storage boxes ...or purses... out of cigar boxes. Some crafters sell cigar box purses for hundreds of dollars.

Check out the craft stores... hardware stores (especially the wood working section)... scrapbook stores... and antique malls for ideas. Don't forget Goodwill or the Salvation Army... Dollar Stores are great too.

I am looking for a TV commercial where a girl's bedroom changes it's design multiple times, ultimately ending with a dark purple and black setting with a fireplace. I believe she is laying on her bed, while her friend is sitting at a desk or a makeup desk in front of her. The bedroom changes it's design to fit with your personal style. May be Pier 1 or Ikea? Target? Does anyone remember this commercial?

Q. I have cream walls, and my furniture looks like this blog.bedding-wizard.co.uk

What colors should my bedding and accessories be, so that everything matches, and the room brightens up. I'm a teen girl, and everything in my room is just plain boring and nothing matches. Any good color themes? Please help, and pictures would be great!

Answer
Red usually goes well with cream shades.
It depends on the look your going for if you want mature go with burgundys, reds, and marrons.
A more fresh and lively look would be to add pops pastels.
(pinks, lime greens, and blues.)
Cream is usually a very workable color--- most things can go with it.
It's important to pick one color scheme.
Hope it helps! :)

Answer
two words: Accent colors; how does this help well i think you could add nice frames that are either black, silver, or even a dark or light wood color. it's what ever you want. You want long flow-y...white curtains. Accent it with whites, blues, grays (light), and yellows. I think if you use them right you could make your room look amazing.

How to make my room look better?

Q. My bedroom is pink. Like a fairy pink. I picked this color when I was like 10. I am 14 now. I really want to make my room seem less like a little girly girl. My mom won't let me repaint my room. So what can I do to make my room less little girl like? Any ideas are appreciated? Thanks in advance. Btw, the rest of my room is fine, it's just the walls that bother me. Thanks so much in advance.

Answer
Pink does not have to mean 10

Start selecting more mature things using this color pallette http://www.krishelmick.com/Clients/BS/color-palatte-soft-pink-neutral-room-bedroom-decor.jpg
Think about new bedding in the cream taupe heather blue or white that you have now with the pink.

Reduce clutter and small items. Get old picture frames and mirrors and paint them to match the bedding. you can find these at garage sales and used furniture stores.
Even stretch fabric to cover some of the wall with frames you can make yourself. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Fo7vaCYxWDg/SYBYmfXrj-I/AAAAAAAACgc/USS7U9MOUec/s400/6a00d8341cc08553ef00e54f62fa118833-800wi.jpg

Ask the folks for a chandilier for Christmas. See if a relative has one hiding in the attic and paint it. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bevhillstyle/room/263314060_c3365d1b14_o.jpg

You can make the pink work...and then your 14 year old self won't hate it and your 16 year old self can grow up into it.

How can I get a surfer style bedroom?

HollyPolly

I love brands like Fat Face, Billabong, Roxy etc. and the whole surfer look but I was wondering how to get that style in my bedroom? I've only got a tiny bedroom but I'm up for any suggestions - please add photos if you can.

Answer
I would definitely stay away from creating a too cheesy surfer room. For example, I was looking up some pictures for you and there were cheap grass skirts as the bedskirt for the bed and little tiny surfer lamps and stuffed monkeys and dolphins and stuff....cheesy. To make a gooood surfer room, I'd choose a bright color that you like for the walls or maybe two as in the picture provided below. The room below has lime green and orange but if you like other bright colors better, that'd be okay too. When you look for room examples like this, I always just use the picture as a shell and interchange my color preferences, etc. So paint the walls a bright color, I actually like the blue in the second picture provided for the walls. You'll want to keep white in your room too..the molding around the room, in the bedspread, maybe the bed frame, the dresser and anything you can really. Because you have a really bright wall, you need that white to offset it and make it more beachy and light. So chose your bedspread. There are plenty of bedspreads that are actually billabong and roxy beach spreads if you want that. You can also chose a hawaiian print theme, but I feel like that's borderline cheesy as well. If I were you, I would choose a full white bedspread in a light fabric. Choosing a completely white bedspread will also make the room and your bed feel and look bigger. It's really your preference though, as I know some people love the hawaiian print. I love the wicker in the first room provided. And I love how they painted it, but I also just love wicker plain. So if you're tight on cash or you just like the wicker not painted, just keep it like it is. Wicker just reminds me of outdoor furniture you'd have at a beach house though. I'm not sure what color your carpet is or if you have wood floors. It'd be ideal if you had wood flooring and then I'd add a straw beach mat as the rug at the foot of the bed or at the side of the bed, depending on the positioning of the bed. I'd get white lamps like the one in the first bedroom provided, the two inbetween the two beds on the nightstand. Again, I'm not sure how you are on money, but if you can afford it, I'd definitely splurge on a full sized surfboard to put somewhere in your room, behind a wicker chair or in a corner by itself. I'll provide a link to a cheaper board (in the world of surfboards it's considered very cheap.) I'd also get some beach themed decor. I like the word beach spelled out above the bed in the second picture. I also love the wood nightstand in the second bedroom, you can see the top slats of it, but I would paint it white. I was recently at Marshalls and they had extremely nice and sophisticated beach themed decor that could fill up probably two to three rooms. If you have a Marshalls by you, you should take a look there. Also, TJ Maxx. If not though, I'm sure you can find really cute beach stuff online. Even if you went to a craft store and bought a hurricane candle holder, a pillar candle, and sand and/or shells, that would be awesome to put on your nightstand. You could also buy a cheap starfish and shells online too to put around your room. The options are endless!! :) Here are all the links:

Answer
Soft Surroundings has beautiful bedding:

I think I would choose the Santorini or Tangiers collection for your bedroom.

Another good source for bedding is Home Decorators Collection:

That Rococo Set would look fantastic against your red walls.

What's an in-expensive, but sturdy, wood to use to build a bed?

Gwendolyn

Im building a queen size captains bed, and need ideas on what type of wood would be a good choice, that also wont bust my pocketbook.

Answer
The least expensive is pine, but it does not have to look it. Of course it can be painted any color. It can also be stained any shade. Minwax and several other companies make stains that will color it to look like many other woods, from darkening it ever so slightly to show the grain, to darking it to ebony. It is a softwood, and therefore will bow more than a hardwood, but it is much easier to work, and can be carved with chisels or with a Dremel tool.
Of hardwoods, maple and oak are fairly reasonable in price, and red oak in particular has a beautiful grain.
It is also possible to get hardwood plywoods (most plywood is pine) like birch, which I have a table made of about ten feet from where I am, that I made, and many people have liked it, and I do myself.
Most hardwoods, in my opinion, if the grain is selected carefully will not require a stain, but just a varnish.
I use wipe on polyurethane, which I apply with a cloth soaked in it. It seals the wood, darkens it slightly, and looks quite pretty. I put it on thin, so that you can still feel the grain (thick makes it plastic-y).
Use a circular saw with a fine toothed finish cut blade. Cover where you want to cut with masking tape, mark the tape, cut through it, and the edge will be smooth when the tape is removed.
Metal el brackets make the joints stronger, as do wooden dowels or "biscuits."
Pre-drilling holes keeps screws from splitting wood.
Good luck!

Answer
library
decorating books
this book may be a little extreme but try:
"Paint It Black: A Guide to Gothic Homemaking"
or
"Victorian Gothic House Style: An Architectural and Interior Design Source Book
by Linda Osband"

Use a piece of plain white or black duck cloth and stroke paint a gothic or medieval window or door, free hand
it will look beautiful, not detail will be necessary.

How can I make my bedroom cozier and prettier?

Zoe

I am 13yr old girl and I want to make my bedroom feel like a place I actually want to hang out in because at the moment it is sort of boring. But the problem is I can't paint the walls and I only have a budget of about $50. I want to make it indie or vintage looking.

Answer
It's always fun redecorating! :) I hope you're able to find some things you like that are within your budget. Here are some answers and ideas I found online that should help you out. Good luck!

Idea 1: Hobby Lobby has beautiful vintage looking stuff. They are always having sales!

Idea 2: DIY lacy/doily lamps! (it's the second link below)

Idea 3: They have cute scrapbook boxes at AC Moore ( www.acmoore.com) and you can stuff almost anything in them. I have about 4 and they're helpful and come in a variety of colors. I always think a painting or 2 make a room look nice. You can also find some removable wall stickers at most art stores, but I'm not so sure about the price. For the furniture, pick a color you like and make sure they contrast. Like, don't pick dark brown furniture with a gray comforter.

Idea 4: Animal prints, polka dots, stripes, or retro would all look pretty good. Just pick your favorite them and go with it.

Happy decorating!

Repainting bedroom?

casual_ros

i am a teenage girl going to repaint her bedroom.
i am thinking of a two-toned look: a dusty rose and a tan color.
possibly going with two walls rose and the rest tan.
opinions?

Answer
Beige would look best for all the wall. Decorate your bed in rose/chocolate/white. Lots of pillows in rose/pink/chocolate/beige/white in different shapes to give depth of the bedding. Hang Chocolate curtains with glitter light pink sheers in the back

Associated with: love
Best for: bedrooms as it can be peaceful and restful. A hot fuchsia can introduce passion http://www.bbc.co.uk/homes/design/colour_psychologyofcolour.shtml#brown___
Pitfalls: can be appear to be very girlie and sickly sweet. To counteract this, introduce hints of dark charcoal or black.

Im redoing my bedroom, im a teen girl and very artistic. My room is large and airy, so im picking the main wall and painting on it a cherry blossom tree, and beside that japanese symbols and then putting my bed against that wall. The tree has pink blossoms so what color should the other walls be and what color should the accent wall be underneath the tree? also what color should i make the curtains and bedsheets so it will all look cohesive? thanks.

Answer
Very cool idea! If your worried a few years from now you might out grow this- another great option people have been using are wall decals- they are easy to apply and easy to remove. If you still want to paint your design and the background walls, i would suggest picking a color that is either going to be subtle (a sandy tan color) or a color that is really going to draw attention to your painting (a dark teal!) and make it really pop! You dont want too much going on with the curtains and bed sheets so i would really go with a sheer white curtain and a white down comforter- be sure to toss in some colorful pillows that match the shade of the background wall color. If your interested in seeing what the decals look like click on my link!

Interior design tips for a 14 year old girls bedroom?

Lilly Ambe

I want to use the colors MINT GREEN and CANDY FLOSS PINK.

Wallpaper is not an option, I want to paint my walls but I'm not sure what colors.
Either-all pink-all green-one green wall and 3 white-one pink wall and 3 white-2 green and 2 pink

I have a vintage dressing table, chest of drawers and bed side table that all match (white and cannot be painted)

What are some other things I could do with the room and the walls?? Nothing to expensive.

Answer
Painting the room and walls is a good idea. But also have a good look at a good bedding set. The bed is the centre of a bedroom, and the way it is presented can have a huge impact on the presentation and character of a bedroom. There are lots of great bedding sets around, some of which also come with accessories such as curtains, floor rugs, wall decorations etc. The best thing is they are not expensive and it's not hard to find something that will suit your taste.

My room is an ocean blue (light blue) color and beautiful.

Answer
Here are some DIY wall decorations.

Message Board, pushpin/tac up notes, photos, memorabilia...
Cut a large square out of box cardboard about the size of a corkboard.
To make the hanger, punch two holes 1/2 inch apart 1 inch from the top in the center,
(where a hanger is on the back of a frame)
http://www.bellababyart.com/myfiles/image/sample_sawtooth-hanger.jpg
thread the ends of a twisty tie (the paper covered wire used to close bread) thru the holes, turn cardboard over, make a loop and twist the ends.
Cut a piece of fabric 2 inches larger than the cardboard.
Lay cardboard on top of fabric and wrap to the back like a present and pin.
http://www.singermachines.co.uk/access_images/pins.jpg
(you could use an old shirt or sweater or t-shirt with a cool design or your fav band,
cut the front of the shirt two inches bigger than the cardboard)

Wall Art Panels
Cut two or three matching size rectangles about 12"x30" out of box cardboard
or out of a sheet of styrofoam. <available home improvement stores $4
Make the hanger as above, add a layer of batting and wrap each with matching fabric and hang together on one wall.
You can get remnant fabric for $1-$3 per yard at any fabric store or in the fabric section of dept. stores in every color, pattern or design imaginable to coordinate with your room.
Or you could use wallpaper or cool design wrapping paper and glue to the back.
http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=e07582

Picture collage
Cut out any size out of thin cardboard. (a cereal box works great)
Make the hanger.
Use a glue stick or a small drop of glue for each pic, you can arrange the photos side by side or overlapping.
Or make a collage cut from magazines.
http://www.creativity-portal.com/howto/artscrafts/features/2004/magazine.collage.html

Frames
Cut out any size frame from cardboard and wrap with fabric strips, wallpaper or gift wrap and glue pic to the back.
http://home.howstuffworks.com/fabric-crafts5.htm
You can frame calendar pics or print pics from the net and frame.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/thaicreate/my%20website/purple-rose-4.jpg <click file (upper left) choose print
http://www.monchesfarm.com/Abstract%20Art.jpg <"
http://www.soonerplantfarm.com/_ccLib/image/plants/DETA-386.jpg

You could decorate with accessories like candles, lava lamp and blown glass figurines.
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=blown%20glass%20figurines&sa=N&tab=wi&um=1

Teenage Bedroom Ideas?

hasio

I am moving bedrooms, to our attic. I need some help on deciding how to decorate it. I am a girl but not a girly girl, i like retro things. There are 2 small alcoves which at the moment are going to have my desk and a sofabed with a hammock above it. I am going to get a new bed, double, i will be having a walk in wardrobe, small, i need to be very organised with it. I am allowed to paint it, but it will be staying the same for quite a while, i'm thinking white with blue stripes in the 2 alcoves and white every where else, parents say i will want to change it to soon, i don't think i will. I like colour but i want it to all go together. One wall, the smallest, 2 doors on that wall, one the main and the other wardrobe to be, this i am thinking of doing a giant collage of pictures and stuff not sure at the moment. I want to seperate the room out into sections in a sense, sleep, work and chill. I am going to get a couple of small bedside tables and am thinking of getting a friend to graffiti them. So any ideas are welcome, for my birthday my neighbour gave me a silver sequined cushion and a union flag cushion. I am 15 if that helps and live in the UK so any companies to buy from must have shops based in the uk or a uk website. It is a decent sized room, compared to most its large. We don't have a huge budget, my mums making curtains, using shelves and stuff i already i have for the wardrobe.
Thanks in advance

PS Remember i am not very girly and please give websites with ideas, pictures and where to buy them.
Please can you put as much detail as possible and to let you know i do not want to do a really bright coloured wall.

Answer
You can try to paint the wall in your fav color

And add interior accessories of one theme, just choose what you like: celebrity room, african, luxury, etc.

Good luck:)

another suggestion:
Hollywood glamour in my mind speaks crystals/glass, silver tones, with light pastel colors(candice olsen style). Think of the Victoria's Secret boxes/bags. I'd consider the victoria's secet color scheme. Maybe two shades of pale pink stripes, vertical or horizontal on the walls w/a pearl color trim. Add crystal, silver and black accents/accessories and a beautiful cream color long haired rug. With black and white photos of Old Hollywood Stars.

hope this helps good luck:)

How should I decorate my bedroom that has forest green carpet and wood paneling?

Katie

I can't change the carpet or paint the walls but I want my room to look more like a teenage girls room. The walls are a really light cream/wood color and the carpet has flecks of purple and tan in it. I just want some ideas as to how to decorate in a way that will tie every thing in. What color furniture? curtains? and bed set?

Answer
Hanging light purple sheer panels can lighten it up since there are flecks of purple in the carpeting. A light colored poster board would brighten up the room along with some teen posters (I've seen an array of posters at Walmart). A light purple bedspread that matches the curtains would also bring brightness into the room. Go to garage sales and get an old piece of furniture like a table or a small desk. Paint the top one color and the legs another. Like purple top, tan legs. Sometimes you can get reject paint at paint stores or Walmart at a good price. If you get poster board and it has a border, use that brightly colored paint to accent it. A purple border that matches the table/desk would look beautiful. I hope this helps you, just be creative.

Hi,

Any tips for how to decorate a small bedroom for a single guy who wants the room to have an exotic, but simple theme thats kinda hot and intimate for female visitores???

Thanks
also what about a bed frame which is more sexy wood or iron (iron could obviously be more fun) use your imagination

Answer
Put away the "lost & found" box. The one with all the panties, lipsticks, and abandoned single earrings.

On a serious note, get some live plants, orchids are nice.

Find a piece so odd that the girls will have to ask about it. Then you can tell them how you found it buried while you were digging the foundation for an orphanage in Zamunda during some volunteer work.

How to decorate my bedroom for a teenage girl?

I'm moving into a different bedroom soon and can redo it. The doors and trim are light/medium brown and the carpet is tan. I can paint the walls and get new furniture and stuff and I need to figure out a theme. I wanted to do an all white theme, but would that be weird with the brown and tan doors and carpet? (I can't paint the doors or change to carpet) or is the white theme lame? If so what are some other cool themes or color schemes? Thaaanks!

Answer
The all white bedroom is a great idea. Even with the bit of brown/tan you can still make this room relaxing and calm.
Here is an example :http://www.flickr.com/photos/melissm2007/4391887998/in/photostream/
You can use natural fiber headboard and add pieces like that to your room.

Teen bedroom help..hummm?

Q. Okay so I'm moving and I'm redoing my room! I'm 16 and I'm wondering if I should go with a teenager look with pink walls and girly stuff everywhere! OR maybe a more modern sophisticated look with light grey walls and black and white pictures of the brooklynn bridge and the awesome effiel tower and stuff like that?

Please help! Thanks!

Answer
Why not compromise and do a bit of both? Do modern sophisticated, but instead of going all grey and black, throw in some pink with very modern furniture. Look for accents that are girly, but sophisticated at the same time. Concentrate on geometric shapes, glass, metal, and use streamlined furniture but keep your girly pinks and lavenders in there. Throw in some sparkle and stylized flowers with all of the geometry. Photography is good, but instead of just going for Brooklynn Bridge or Effiel Tower, how about some fashion prints to keep it feminine?

Something like this:

Here are some pics of "girly sophisticated" decor:

This is for a young girl, but I like some of the details:

i like the vintage look :))) and my piano is also white...its broughten from russia specially made for me :)

Answer
Well since your getting older and you want a more modern room go for more vintage furniture, because its more "grown-up" but still can be really cute and fun!
Vintage furniture falls under the lines of :
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3011/3054750930_ea1579d559.jpg
(This chair is vintage, but is younge and fun because of the pink. You could change the color if you don't like it)
http://www.thefurniture.com/store/Images/Lea/JMV/bed-met.jpg
(This bed is VERY vintage and mature, but the metal working in the frames makes it more mystical-grownup-princess look for the mature younge woman look you are going for)
http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/3369559/2/istockphoto_3369559-seamless-vintage-wallpaper-pattern.jpg
(This is just a pattern for wallpaper or fabric. Its modern but vintage for a happy medium in your bedroom. If this is too childish, but you like the pattern, go with a plain white wall and have a similar fabric.A black and white themed vintage room and you could add bit of color such as red or pink. OR even blue yellow and orange to make it more modern and young, and plain-out more fun!)
http://s3.amazonaws.com/pixmac-preview/seamless-vintage-wallpaper-pattern.jpg
(This wall paper or fabric is colorful! The fun thing about vintage fabrics is that they don't have to necessarily match. The fabricsis are very fancy-adult looking but if you mix and match fabrics it will give a more teenage fun messy, but not too messy, look)
http://dearada.typepad.com/dear_ada/images/2007/12/29/wp360820e.jpg
(With vintage is you can really make it your own. This is a younger fun vintage fabric or wallpaper. Vintage can have a lot of flowers so you can go with a more traditional flower such as the one below or you can go with a more modern flower such as the one above!)

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_JEgWjwxMYoY/R7Gs377RWrI/AAAAAAAAALo/skETYOVo8ks/s320/gp159rmd.jpg
(You also mentioned you had a piano! If you had the budget after you were done remodeling your room maybe painting your piano a nice clean white! Also if you got really into it you could add details into the piano)
http://www.countryliving.com/cm/countryliving/images/Vintage-Vanity-White-Silver-HTOURS1206-de.jpg
(This vanity set is made in mind for the younge adult. Many drowers to put make-up in! Also note the decorations like the plant and lamp which will help you when you do put the final touches on your room!)
http://www.lampdoctor32.com/images/DSCF6751.jpg
(I know this may seem far-fetch but any vintage room is in need of a classic chandelier! It doesn't have to be real, it just all depends on your budget and the size of your room!)
http://www.designpublic.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/mediallion-mix3.jpg
(This picture is just showing modern decor for a vintage/victorian room. Also take note of the fun colors and wall papers. If you aren't a fan of wall paper than going with any of those colors in paint would work too! Also if you don't like bright colors and would like to "tone-it-down" going with pastel colors would work too!) Blue, purple, yellow, pink, orange,&green
