Okay, so it is not an emergency, sorry if the head line was too dramatic, I just did not know how to word it and be short, sweet, and to the point. I am in a sort of confused state of mind right now and I am looking for advice or any helpful suggestions.

First let me set the stage on what is going on...

I am almost 25, and just finished college. I have a good paying job and have made arrangements to move out of my parents' home, where I stayed, saving money while attending school and work. I move into my new place in a little over a month from now. This is not the first time I am moving out, I leased an apartment with my sister for a year when I turned 18. I will be moving out on my own this time and am in the middle of planning and making lists of items I need to buy for my new place. It is in this stage that I have found my problem.

All my life, I have slept in the smallest bedroom of the house. The room I have had since 1997 is 9 feet by 9 feet. The room in the apartment I shared with my sister was 8 feet by 8 feet. I own a twin bed, book shelf, desk, night stand, and a head board. All items were hand-me-downs. There is no real theme/style to my room. I like various things and have tidbits of those interest scattered around the room with no real order. It has been described by friends as a mixture of a little girl's, teenage boy's, and granny's room.

While making shopping lists and plans, I realized I have no idea how to decorate a home. I am moving from a 81 square foot room, with few furnishings and even fewer decor possibilities, into a 1500 square foot town house with no real sense of decor. I understand that decorating a home is a life long process that never stops and is not gained overnight, but I would at least would like an idea of what style I would like and dislike.

I know I could always ask my mother for help decorating, as she redecorates a room in the house once a month and it comes out looking magazine worthy, but I would like to do this one my own, with out her controlling were everything goes and how it looks, it is something I need to learn for myself.

How does one find out what styles to decorate with? Where do you find your inspiration and creativity? Is there a way to have it look stylish with out losing functionality? Any ideas, tips or suggestions that can help me? Any websites that can help as well? Anything else you think would be helpful in my situation?

Thank you for your time reading this, I know it was long, and I really appreciate it.
The place I am moving into has 2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 bathrooms, living room, dining room, den, kitchen, front and back patio section, and a garage. The rooms are big and spacious, the master bedroom alone is 15 feet by 14 feet, two and a half times my old room.

I have also looked on pinterest for decorating ideas but I will usually only like one or two things in a picture and none of them go together, or even be considered the same style.
There is also another thing that concerns me, what if once I buy everything and set it up, I hate it? I noticed that I change my mind and switch comforters out almost monthly. I have a purple/white cheetah/stripe print, a blue/gold sun/moon print, solid grey/black print, solid white down comforter, grey/multi color polka dot print, and a quit with rich colors and a black border. Most of my comforters are reversible and I take advantage of that and change it up a lot. I also have sheets in multiple fabrics and shades/prints.

Hi - You learn so many things through the years in school, but you seldom get education on decorating styles for the home. This short guide from About.com will steer you to quizzes and resources to help you determine your specific favorite decorating style.

Connect to the links here and answer some simple questions. Before you know it, you'll get information on your decorating style, based on your answers. What could be easier? Use these sources as a guide to creating the interior that reflects your personality.

What’s your interior design style? It can be hard to define. If you’re either country casual or city sleek, the difference is extreme and you’re easier to describe. But what about if you are transitional? And what does that even mean? Your interior design style is a hard thing to define, but having an understanding of your likes and dislikes, and knowing how to describe them, is step one to a successful new design plan. The following is a highly unscientific quiz that helps break down the major style elements in a design plan:

How to be a 50's teenage girl?

Chloe

Im 14 and a girl and i am SOOO in love with the 50's every single thing about it, to the black and white small tvs to the sock hops to the coca cola glass bottles and to the fridges to the old cars with wings and the clothes and hairstyles and EVERYTHING! I seriously wish i was born in the 50's!

The only problem is im korean and i don't see alot of pictures of asians in the 50's so im not exactly sure how good it would look on me. But
1.) How do i get anything 50's? I don't think we have lots of antique shops where i live, and most everything on the internet is too expensive,
2.) do you think they would have patterns for 50's dresses in stores still?
3.) what about any good 50's music besides elvis?
4.) how to make my room seem like im in the 50's
5.) what were some things teen girls did in the 50's for free time?

Anything else you would like to add would be wonderful! Like anything! I seriously really want to be a 50's girl. Thanks so much lovelies(: xx

How to make an eco-friendly house in Istanbul?

beautiful modern bedroom ideas
on beautiful collection of bedroom designs 2011 modern luxurious bedroom ...
beautiful modern bedroom ideas image
Q. Consider the roof, floor, walls and windows. Which direction should this house face? Will the house generate any of it's own energy? What electrical appliances are used if I had a house in Istanbul? How can I keep this house cool in summer and warm in winter without using too much energy? Thanks so much, I don't know much about Istanbul!
This is for a school project. I'm not actually going to build a house in Istanbul:)

Answer
I really don't know about an eco house in Istanbul, but I do know about an eco house in general.
Totally Blunt gave you more detailed information.
Just bear in mind that
1. Isolation and structural materials DO play a VERY important role, so pay attention to it and don't hesitate to ask. Ask about where and how much PVC is used in the house.

2. Wood is the 'eco' friendliest and better in isolation material. Provides a better static (antisismic).

3. HEAT. Plant deciduous trees (right?) to the North side of your house, they may even reduce 40% energy needs (personal experience, dramatic reduction). Bedrooms and rooms, where you don't spend much time, better to face this side (northern).
Best orientation (not sure, sorry) is East.
A house in the middle of nowhere needs much better isolation and electricity/gas costs to get warmed.

4. Energy reduction...I'm not an expert in Istanbul, but I guess it's the same as my place (and everywhere). You can try stoves that burn wood in every room, if you don't intent to have a big house.

5. A more realistic and modern idea: put a big modern wood burning stove in your living room (not a fireplace, it burns much more woods and doesn't get warmed quickly, personal experience). There are beautiful stoves that permitte you to cook/bake if you like. ;-)

6. Solar panels for warm water, as Totally Blunt said, is a very good option (the installation may not be cheap). Solar energy for electricity is expencive (in my country and other countries at least).

Answer
A Tiffany's style in my mind speaks crystals/glass, silver tones, with light aqua color and white (Audrey’s favorite color). Think of the Tiffany's boxes/bags. Maybe two shades of aqua-bluish stripes, vertical or horizontal on the walls w/a silverish (grayish)color trim . Add crystal, glass, silver and white/cream accents/accessories and a beautiful cream color long haired rug by the bed. Use black and white photos of Audrey Hepburn and photos of New York City in varying sizes. For the bed I would "glam" it up by using cream color bedding with white and silver accent pillows alternating; with one Tiffany's style blue pillow in the center. For sheets look for ones with patterns, rather than solid colors that correspond with your color scheme. For a dresser I would go with white but if you really want to “glam” up dresser you can use your existing dresser and cover it in mirrored tiles. If you have room for a seating area by the window (window area should be light and airy); I would put a small white slightly modern round table like here: (http://www.seenonstyle.com/detail.php?p=55987&v=) DOCKSTA from IKEA), covered with a pale/Tiffany style blue throw accented with silver candle holders or a silver vase with white roses. Then put a modern arm chair like this: (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S59830464 KLAPPSTA from IKEA) and accent the chair with Tiffany style blue accent pillows and one small silver one. On the table/or nightstand by the bed put a copy of Pamela Clarke Keogh Audrey Style Biography (http://www.seenonstyle.com/detail.php?p=55983&v=). Also I would look for a mirror that is floral etched in white; these are quite common in the stores now. Put in a "crystal" chandelier for lighting (like this: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20089464 (KRISTALLER) or like this: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp;jsessionid=2F557DC8F2DF0B5E559A095C36330EDB.app12-node5?itemdescription=true&itemCount=60&id=12314225&parentid=A_FURN_LIGHTING_HANGING&sortProperties=+product.marketingPriority,-product.startDate&navCount=77&navAction=poppushpushpush&color=. Tear Drop Chandelier from Urban Outffiters ) For other lighting like a bedside lamp I would go with a lamp with shades trimmed with grosgrain ribbon - perhaps stripes.

Also here are some other ideas that incorporate the Old Hollywood look, where you can just subsitute the colors listed as suggetions with your Tiffany style color theme:

Here are some photo inspirations for you:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/brightblade/152727355/
(can paint your bedroom walls in a light chocolate brown, look for white furniture or you can paint existing furniture in a antique white finish...accent with silver, crystal/glass...and other pale colors (like pale gray, gold for art and pillows)

http://blog.designpublic.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/picture-10.png (Would change the color combination to silver & white, chocolate & white, or gold and white, accented with glass table, black and white photos, satin sheers, and a chandelier) (http://www.decorpad.com/images/1/orangebedroom.jpg )

My name is emalee and my boyfriends name is Dustin and we are having
Twins. We need help finding names and bedroom ideas I love saying and bright colors but Dustin likes the out door thems. And we are having a boy and a girl.

Answer
Just make sure the names don't match, don't rhyme, don't start with the same letter, aren't connected (like Romeo and Juliet), don't shorten to the same thing (Christopher and Christine). Name them as if they were individuals.

You could divide the room in two and decorate each half for each kid. Or have a bright color outdoor room. Strong greens and blues, for example. Sunshine yellow and lake blue.

Good Christmas gift for 9-10 year old girls, maybe a bedroom accesory?

bedroom decor games for girls online image

Boz

I need to find a gift for 9-10 year old girls, they are the last on my shopping list and I'm stuck, I would really like to wrap it up this week, online instead of hitting the over packed malls and stores, but willing to do so if that's what it takes..

They are into all the tween stuff, One Direction , Bieber, twilight and all Disney stars, anything to do with that would be great, and maybe if anything falls into a bedroom accessory, wall decor, game , lamp clock radio...as they have just recently got their own independent rooms for the first time.

If anyone can pint me in the right direction or give me ideas, you will make my week and have some good karma coming back, it doesn't have to be any of those interests I mentioned any other good idea will work as well..oh yeah between the $25-$50 range each..

Thanks!!!

Answer
Ok, posters and stuff is awesome, but if you want to be more creative, get them Klutz activity sets. They are like 20 bucks a set and REALLY fun. I loved them when I was 10. You can find them at Barnes and Nobles and other book stores.

Also, I know I've always wanted fairy lights in my room, like across my headboard and stuff. Thats a cool idea. Though theyll need help installing it...

Maybe you can get them one direction dolls? haha not too sure if they'd like that

Also, If they havent bought it already, get them One direction's/ justin biebers latest album.

It may be best to get them two of the same girts so their isnt any fighting

Does the beginning to my first chapter sound ok?

bedroom decor for toddler girls image

Jenna

I apologize if it is too long, please read as much as you can. I really appreciate it. This is, hopefully, the beginning of my first chapter of my novel entitled 'Papercuts'. Briefly, it is about a girl disenchanted with reality after having an incident in her childhood involving a man from another world. It goes so much deeper than this but there is only so much I get tell you in this short space. Thank you for reading! See 'extra details' for this extract continued.

No windows were open, and the breeze pushed back the door to her bedroom. The last of Summer lingered in the room, a pleasant phantom to the girl on the bed. A shade of apricot spilled over the carpet and dug into the crop circles made by a dragged out chair and hardened coke stains sinking into the floor. It was the juices of a late, chilly Summer day, being squeezed from the lowering sun for what was left of it and bleeding it dry. It was a final plea for the girl to get up and call an ambulance, to see the day that she had given away. Her back was warm as it lay directly under the window, the jumper she wore ridden up so that most of her lower back was exposed. Her fingers stretched towards the bedside table, slipping out of the bubble of warmth she was in and dipping into the shadow cast by the curtain above it. As she lay on the bed, inhaling and exhaling quietly, she mourned. By now, everyone had slipped out of their summer skins and thrown them across the backs of chairs. Soon, they would blend in to the rest of the room and its décor, along with school uniforms and skinny jeans. The electric hum of a TV left on standby weighted down the air as she waited. Her converse were tucked neatly to the bottom right hand side of her bed. Sand hid inside them, as did a folded piece of paper in the left shoe, with a heart drawn in the corner and filled in by a black marker pen that still had its heady scent. It didn't feel like she was dying. It felt like she was waiting for someone to come and save her.
A ghostly chuckle erupted in the room, making her sleepy eyes widen.

“Aero? Aero...”
The bus juddered, bringing Aerosol back into the present. Sitting where the shopping bags of passengers ought to go, she stared blankly ahead of her at all the packed seats and people standing in the isle. Looking back at Aerosol just as mindlessly was a small girl with chopped ginger hair and freckles poured over her nose and upper cheeks. Her mother ushered her away out of discomfort, pulling her into the gap behind herself and in front of the next person.
“Do I look like a predator to you?” Aerosol blurted out, making the mother's mouth pop open in surprise. Secondary school kids chortled at the back of the bus but Aerosol didn't bother to suck in the words that came out of her mouth. She'd never see these people again. “Well I don't”
“Aero!”
“What?” she snapped back over her shoulder, turning to face Lavina who was sitting on the front seat of the bus, who's seat Aerosol had her back pressed against.
“You sound like a creep right now, and this bus literally has Child-line advertised on the walls”
“I am a creep” replied Aerosol. “But it's not like I get off at toddlers”
“Oh my god” exclaimed Lavina, before mouthing a dragged out 'stop'. Aerosol giggled and covered her mouth with her sleeves, feeling the embarrassment of her words more from her friend's reaction rather than her feeling it herself.
“Sorry” she told the mother, her voice muffled by her jumper. “I'm really not a creep. I'm just misunderstood”
“More like misdiagnosed” Lavina muttered.
“Oi!”
The rest of the bus ride was relevantly silent until she and Lavina got off at their stop opposite the sixth form.
“You really don't get embarrassed easily, do you?” said Lavina as they walked. “Being out with you in public is starting to get more and more dangerous”
Aerosol hooked her thumbs under the straps of her backpack and dipped her head back as she pouted.
“Aw. You still love me though, right?”
Lavina didn't give her friend a reply.
“Well” Aerosol gasped, feigning insult. Lavina smiled and shook her head.
“Did you do anything interesting whilst I was away, then? You know, download any new music, commit any murders...”
“No” she laughed at the last suggestion. “It was all pretty-”
“Lush braces, Pet” snickered a girl as she passed in the opposite direction. Aerosol and Lavina stood still and looked back. The girl's friend, wearing track-pants and a hood, started walking backwards as she grinned in alpha pride and then touched her eyes.
“Should have gone to Specsavers”
They turned away and met in a choir of chuckles, obviously pleased with themselves. Aerosol frowned at them as they sat down at the bus stop and looked at her for a reaction.
Widening her eyes, Aerosol coughed.
“Yes” she said. “Because I really appreciate your opinion on my dental status and where the fuck I get my glasses from...wise, orange faced strangers” she bowed in mock worship, placing her hands together, before turning her back on them and facing Lavina. “So it was all pretty much mundane” she began walking, Lavina following soon after with a goofy smile on her face. “I swear, it made me want to kill myself”
“So dramatic” te

Need ideas--Redecorating room for 4 yo boy/girl twins!?

treefor3

I'm looking for creative ideas for redecorating my 4 year old boy/girl twins' bedroom. They've outgrown their toddler beds and the babyish nursery decor. We're planning to get them bunk beds and I'd like to update the room. My boy is all "boy"--trucks and cars and the like--and my girl is all "girl"--pink and princesses and ponies. They do share a common love of animals, so I was thinking of doing some sort of animal theme. Any suggestions?

Hi, I'm looking to re-design a bedroom for an older teenage girl. We are going for a subtle look, with possibly some East-Indian accents.

Do you know of any good websites that have pictures of the type of room we are looking to design? It doesn't have to be the specific style we are looking for, as long as it has ideas on how to decorate a young adult's room.

Answer
I agree with previous answer- check out "Rate my Space"( HGTV). There's tons of pictures people have sent in when they redo a room and you can find an idea you like. Also, try pottery barn teen - pbteen.com (cute pictures to get ideas)
Whatever you choose, I would recommend you try to pick things that she will not grow out of. I would go with neutral colors on the walls. If you want to go with the East-Indian theme, use this as accent pieces, which will be easier to change out as her tastes may change. A great website for East-Indian/ethnic decor would be www.pier1imports.com . They have great pillows, mirrors, throws and TONS of accents pieces with East Indian flare.
Good luck!

Teen Girl Bedroom Design Help?

Serena Jac

im a 13 turning 14 year old girl and i really need some bedroom designs. this is the first time i actually get to design my own room so i want to make it nice. my fav colors are red, white and black but since my room is in the basement i don't get any natural light and my mom thinks that those colors will be to dark(especially because my room is getting dark hardwood floors)...she wants me to have a neutral color in my room but i don't want my room to say "adult". if you have any cute AND neutral ideas that say teen and young adult, please go wild with whatever ideas you have. btw, i don't NEED my room colors to be red, white and black, those were just my first designs. make sure that the colors will go with dark hardwood floors though please. the best ideas will be chosen as winner. thanks to every one

Answer
You definitely need a light neutral earth tone, something in the cool blues or greens to reflect and bounce the lighting in your room, perfect with the red, black and white.
such as a light turquoise

Then pick out a bed in a bag, rug, wall decor/mirror, lighting, accents and accessories.

A good site for children's bedroom accessories?

Looking for Celtic Inerior design tips and references =)?

Rose G

I'm completely remodeling my bedroom and love Celtic inspired art. I'm looking for a website(s) or books that can help me achieve a Celtic look without just throwing a bunch of Celtic stuff in the room and calling it good. I want it to look subtle and beautiful not cliché. I want it to look Celtic with out screaming I bought a bunch of Celtic looking stuff with Celtic designs all over it and threw it in the room. I have an idea of what I want it to end up looking like....very organic and earthy but looking for pictures of finished rooms to draw inspiration from. I have an iron poster bed with scroll work and leaves that I want to buy and become the center piece...sort of like the Tree of Life symbol but want ideas and color palette ideas to pull the room together. Thank you for any help or references you can think of to help me. Rose.

Answer
I would stick to the traditional colors of greens and golds. I would do walls in a warm honey color. Bedding in deep greens with celtic inspired throw pillows in green and gold. You can find beautiful pictures of Irish or Scottish castles. Or frame travel posters of the area you like. Maybe a few celtic crosses grouped together on a wall. I agree that you don't want your room to look like you just threw in a bunch of celtic junk. You might just want to add a greenman wall plaque instead of a picture if it is more the mysticism look you are wanting. Here are a few places you may find interesting pieces for your room.

I am having some issues with decorating my master bedroom. Help!?

Jackie W

I have a rather large space (17x17 ft) with a vaulted ceiling that angles up and creates a plant shelf above the door to the master bath. I would like some suggestions on what to do with this shelf area. It is about 12 ft long and 4 ft deep and is about 9 ft from the floor and is 5 ft tall. I would say that our style is "transitional" not too contemporary and not too traditional. Also I am having trouble with the color scheme. Our furniture is dark cherry, our bedding is khaki and creme striped and the carpet is beige. The walls are currently khaki and all of the neutrals are starting to get to me!! I would like to add some color but with such large walls I am afraid of being overwhelmed. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Answer
i would probably fill the space above the door with a sculpture of some sort (try pier one or bombay company). i think that maybe some light grayish tones with hints of blue would look very nice on your walls to complement the contemporary side. otherwise you should go your local paint store and pick up some paint swatches or even some sample colors that you can actually paint on your wall to try.
this website provides some beautiful colors and ideas. for your situation i would suggest checking out the urban loft, whitewash and thoroughbred colors.

I am moving at the end of the month and I get to do my room over, I love the color purple and would like to paint my walls that color but I need some ideas what could I put on the wall. I'm putting some pictures up of my friends and family and hopefully white Christmas lights. If you have any ideas please let me know! Thanks.

Answer
purple is a great color but you want a bright purple verses a dark purple

I think I would put some paint clip colors on the wall and you could look at different colors in the light and dark...you can get the free color paint strips at lowes or home depot..on of them have the Disney colors which give you the accent colors and that makes it easy

you need a wall color and then I would keep the ceiling and baseboards white to not close in the room

less is best, so it is clean

enlarged photos 8x10 framed in black and using black as an accent color would look sharp mature and perfect in any décor color later

but pets and family and friends all could be a wall

a wall with framed certificates you earned

no poster they make the room look cheap

a bed a night stand and lamp and desk and extra lighting..

around the desk a memo board and calendar...

no dresser they take up to much space and hold junk..hang everything in the closet and use baskets on a shelf..

a fake ficus tree with little lights and a timer work well for always having lights on when you come in at dark

a starburst chain is fun to make and looks cool draped on the tree or around your room

origami balloons over the lights

Does anyone have any pictures or ideas for a techno-style bedroom?

adagio_75

My 15 year old sister-in-law wants to change her bedroom design from a mostly leopard print theme to techno. I want to help her but I really don't know what techno design for a room would look like. She doesn't have alot of money to completely refurnish the room so items like her leopard print area rug, leopard print lamp shades and picture frames will have to be used. Any ideas or pictures would be great.

Answer
When I think of a techno style bedroom I think of lots of fun bright cheery colors with nice white sleek backdrop. For a techno styled bedroom; you could do a modern look. Go for clean, straight lines if possible. I would go for a white or neutral backdrop with pops of color. If some new furniture pieces are in your budget look for white furniture (bed frame, dresser, desk, nightstand)or you can repurpose old furniture and paint it white. For accessories look for bright colors like orange (for a lamp; can’t afford a new lamp you can take an existing lamp, sand it down and spray paint it in an high gloss orange (or whatever bright colors she likes), yellow (picture frames, pillows), and green (pillows, vases for flowers, etc.). If she doesn’t like those colors, you can do any color combo that she will like. You can find a cheap/good looking area rug @ Wal-mart in white, but if you don’t look for white (or another color) bath rugs and connect them together with carpet tape to make a large area rug. You can also change out the lamp shades for a cheap cost or you can cover existing lamp shades with fabric to match the new room décor. For the walls you can blow up her favorite DJ album covers and frame them; or you can get vector silhouettes of DJ’s like this : http://garcya.us/blog/free-dj-vector-graphic-art/ or http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/2286211/2/istockphoto_2286211_dj_at_turntable or http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/4306917/2/istockphoto_4306917_dj_silhouette.jpg or http://www.smashingmagazine.com/images/iconsnew/bittbox.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5671904/2/istockphoto_5671904_beach_party.jpg or images like these and have them blown up to put them on the walls. You can also blow up varying silhouettes of dancers and put them on the wall (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5753237/2/istockphoto_5753237_spring_girl.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5768186/2/istockphoto_5768186_just_wanna_have ). Also music notes and headphones (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5481959/2/istockphoto_5481959_grunge_headphones.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5802696/2/istockphoto_5802696_headphones.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5881226/2/istockphoto_5881226_hand_drawn_musik_retro.jpg would be a cool option also. For bedding you can do something simple like white with a bright colored throw and pillows or bright colored bedding with white pillows and one bright colored accent pillow. Also for bedding you can do bedding in a fun solid color and do an image transfer of her favorite DJ or techno image. Hope this gives you a few ideas, good luck :)

What is a Good Bedroom Theme(Modern, Girly etc.) for a 17 y/o Girl?

bedroom designs for baby girls

bedroom designs for baby girls image

LiJDivine

My Baby sister is coming Home from staying with her Aunt and Cousins in Minnesota and our mother is staying in a 2 Bedroom Apartment. We can't paint the room or anything like that. Our mother has the Master Bedroom and my baby sister has the other room and that room is a small like. I have my own House and Family so here's the description of her room. Everything is White except the Carpet. The whole apartment has like a Dark Blue Carpet so her bedroom carpet is Dark Blue like. The Walls, Both Closets, Celing and BedR. Door is all white.

I'm going to Describe the room from North, South, East and West.

East~Bedroom Door(Entrance) in the middle of the east wall.

West~Both Closets(They are a pretty good size closets not walk in or anything. They are connected to one another so if you look in one, you can see the other. Both closets have two doors each.

North~Just a Wall it's long enough. That's where the bed is going to go.
South~It's the same as the north side wall except there's Pretty Good Size Window(Not to big Not to small. Just right). It's a little close to the east side wall.

Now my baby sister is Versatile. She wants to have a Job in Fashion Industry. I mean she told us on the phone that she wants to become a Model, Fashion Designer and a Female Rapper. And we don't know if she wants a Girly Room or Just Modern or what. I mean she loves pink and things but then she'll get mad and have her days and sleep in the car or something. She has a Laptop that we bought her for Xmas. and things so like I said the room is a little Small but not that small. Please ppl what colors should the drapes and things be. Should a Desk go in there? Like when she does her homework she doesn't want to be bothered by the little ones. and she goes all over the house with her laptop. So is a desk possible? She needs a Full Sized Bed will that work? And my mother and I are only spending $400 at Target or Walmart. Thanks.
She loves Pink, Browns and Black, Whites. Things like that. She'll have her days and things. Get's Mad and all and then she doesn't like the color of the room so. We need to know. It's a Surprise for her. She'll be coming home in May after school is out. She's Graduating in 2008. So ppl please help me and my mother decide.

Answer
The first thing I thought of is pink, black and gray or cream - sort of a retro Hollywood theme. If she likes pink and she wants to be in the fashion biz, she would probly like that. It's pretty popular right now to so you could easily find accessories. I don't know how that would work with the dark blue carpet tho - is it dark enough that it could be mistaken for black? Or you could go to a carpet store and buy a remnant of black or gray carpet to use as a throw rug. Maybe one big enough to cover most of the floor - you can get remnents pretty cheap, shop around tho.

Since you can't paint the walls you could get a good sized piece of fabric (a sheet) with a cool design and hang it behind the bed. You could even fashion a little sort of canopy over the bed. It would take the place of a headboard.
http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/hi_bedrooms/article/0,2037,DIY_13904_2270503,00.html

For the closet doors, staple fabric around oblong pieces of sturdy cardboard (find a box from an appliance or large piece of furniture) and attach it to the doors with heavy duty double sided tape or small nails. Cut it to look like an insert on the door and it will look really cool.

Get some of those 12"x12" mirror squares and mount them on a piece of plywood, maybe 3 ft x 6 ft (18 mirror squares) and lean it up against a wall. This would look best if you put some molding around it, to frame it out.

The closet sounds pretty good sized so you might put either her desk on one side. You might find one at a second hand store or garage sale for a good price. A cool paint treatment is to paint a base color, then tape a piece of lace over it and spray paint a contrasting color thru the lace. It leaves a neat pattern on the furniture and you can use the painted lace somewhere else in the room.

I saw this once on Design on a Dime on HGTV and it was awesome but I can't find pics of it. I think it might be one thats going to be on this Friday, Glam Deco Bedroom. They don't have pics posted so I'm not sure.

Another design she might like is here

my favorites were a light blue semi sheer nylon baby doll nightie , and a stocking and garter set that I got for her 30 years ago , and its been a long time since she's worn either one
unfortunately for me she no longer likes to dress sexy for the bedroom , to bad for us both , the marriage would be a lot better if she wasn't so closed minded

Kimbely

Living room, kitchen/dining room, 3 bedroom and two 3/4 bath. Also, if you say 'interior design'. Does it include furnishing or just designing. I know nothing about these things.

Answer
Girl it depends where you live.

I live in Texas, and Texas ain't cheap, especially if you live in Dallas, Bellaire, Houston, Sugarland, etc

Anyways I live in a 1bd and 1 bath at 895 sq ft apartment with new modern appliances, hardwood floors, washer and dryer included, wonderful staffs, gym, and a doggy park for my dog.

The interior of my apartment is awesome. I get to pick what color walls i want to move in. I also have a large balcony with a cute electric fire place. My kitchen is very modern looking. I have a double stink with hand swap on-off faucet. The bathroom is very European style. It's automatic and we also have a small sink next to the toilet to clean your bum.

But it is not furnish, cost me $1115/monthly.

And it just me and my husband, and our Siberian husky.

But with furnish apartments it can run anywhere from $1050-$2500.

It's hard to find an apartment for 3 bds and be under $1500.

How can I get a surfer style bedroom?

HollyPolly

I love brands like Fat Face, Billabong, Roxy etc. and the whole surfer look but I was wondering how to get that style in my bedroom? I've only got a tiny bedroom but I'm up for any suggestions - please add photos if you can.

Answer
I would definitely stay away from creating a too cheesy surfer room. For example, I was looking up some pictures for you and there were cheap grass skirts as the bedskirt for the bed and little tiny surfer lamps and stuffed monkeys and dolphins and stuff....cheesy. To make a gooood surfer room, I'd choose a bright color that you like for the walls or maybe two as in the picture provided below. The room below has lime green and orange but if you like other bright colors better, that'd be okay too. When you look for room examples like this, I always just use the picture as a shell and interchange my color preferences, etc. So paint the walls a bright color, I actually like the blue in the second picture provided for the walls. You'll want to keep white in your room too..the molding around the room, in the bedspread, maybe the bed frame, the dresser and anything you can really. Because you have a really bright wall, you need that white to offset it and make it more beachy and light. So chose your bedspread. There are plenty of bedspreads that are actually billabong and roxy beach spreads if you want that. You can also chose a hawaiian print theme, but I feel like that's borderline cheesy as well. If I were you, I would choose a full white bedspread in a light fabric. Choosing a completely white bedspread will also make the room and your bed feel and look bigger. It's really your preference though, as I know some people love the hawaiian print. I love the wicker in the first room provided. And I love how they painted it, but I also just love wicker plain. So if you're tight on cash or you just like the wicker not painted, just keep it like it is. Wicker just reminds me of outdoor furniture you'd have at a beach house though. I'm not sure what color your carpet is or if you have wood floors. It'd be ideal if you had wood flooring and then I'd add a straw beach mat as the rug at the foot of the bed or at the side of the bed, depending on the positioning of the bed. I'd get white lamps like the one in the first bedroom provided, the two inbetween the two beds on the nightstand. Again, I'm not sure how you are on money, but if you can afford it, I'd definitely splurge on a full sized surfboard to put somewhere in your room, behind a wicker chair or in a corner by itself. I'll provide a link to a cheaper board (in the world of surfboards it's considered very cheap.) I'd also get some beach themed decor. I like the word beach spelled out above the bed in the second picture. I also love the wood nightstand in the second bedroom, you can see the top slats of it, but I would paint it white. I was recently at Marshalls and they had extremely nice and sophisticated beach themed decor that could fill up probably two to three rooms. If you have a Marshalls by you, you should take a look there. Also, TJ Maxx. If not though, I'm sure you can find really cute beach stuff online. Even if you went to a craft store and bought a hurricane candle holder, a pillar candle, and sand and/or shells, that would be awesome to put on your nightstand. You could also buy a cheap starfish and shells online too to put around your room. The options are endless!! :) Here are all the links:

I am a fifteen year old girl and I am painting my room and getting some new things for it (bed sheets, curtains, etc.) and I have no idea what i should do with it. I would like for it to be brightly coloured and random and look like a teenaged girls bedroom. Any ideas for what I should do?
I like animal prints, like leopard and zebra, and different floral prints aswell.

Answer
Paint your room your favorite color (for example mine is purple, blue so i would paint my room either baby blue or lavender).
This is a really cool room

http://www.decor-medley.com/image-files/teen-bedroom-decor-girls-bedroom-rockstar.jpg

if you want yours similar to that then paint your room 5 different colors (wall 1, wall 2,wall 3, wall 4, ceiling) Just make sure the color kinda matches.
Try to get those foam letters for walls and spell out your name and then stick it on top of your bed.

Since you like animal prints, floral prints then get bed sheets like these
http://www.decor-medley.com/image-files/teen-bedroom-decor-girls-bedroom-rockstar.jpg
or
http://www.pbteen.com/products/wailua-floral-organic-twin-xl-sheet-set/?pkey=cgirls-twinxl-sheets-sets

Also get those decorative pillows, lava lamps, and a cute floral/animal print table lamp for your table where you do your homework.

For your walls

http://www.pbteen.com/products/sign-it-frame/?pkey=cphoto-frames-mirrors

http://www.pbteen.com/products/hang-a-round-mirror/?pkey=cphoto-frames-mirrors

Also try to put up some posters on your wall (such as a favorite singer, flowers or anything)

here is a storage box for your pens, pencils, markers, etc.

http://www.pbteen.com/products/zebra-superstorage-lap-desk/?pkey=cteen-trunks-alarm-clocks-dorm

Look for cute jewelry/make-up boxes at pbteen.com

pbteen has colorful rugs and window accessories for a girl's room.

There are so many things you can do to decorate you room. Just be creative.

Hope i helped!!!

Do you know of any sites where you can "virtually" decorate a kids bedroom?

I am trying to come up with ideas for my little girls bedroom but I want to be able to see what it might look like first before I buy everything.

Answer
I couldn't find any free sites - they do have software out there to buy - but I did find these ten tips -

Hope this helps just a little bit:

10 Tips For Decorating Kids Bedrooms
by Lee Dobbins
There comes a time when your child is no longer a baby that the nursery room decor simply won’t do. Your child needs a place that he can call his own and which reflects his or her emerging personality.

Kids rooms should be fun as well as comforting and relaxing. When you set out to decorate your childs room, ask them what they like and incorporate some of their favorite themes and colors into the room. At the same time, it might be wise to keep an eye on the future and know that their tastes will change and if you make your decor flexible enough the room can last into your childs teens.

Here are some tips on decorating kids bedrooms:

Use colorful curtains and accents. Show your child some curtain selections and ask them what they would like to see no the windows. Try to stick to bright colored window treatments as these will help the room to look sharper and cleaner.
Adding a valance can help define the opening of the window and lessen bright overhead light from coming in at the top of the windows. It also opens up the window so the room can be lit evenly during the day. Add a colorful or themed shade for privacy at night.

Consider using your childs toys as wall decor. This can serve two purposes - as decoration and to save on storage space. You can create hooks to hang larger toys and add shelves to display the smaller ones. Now if you can only get your kids to put them away!

You can always add paintings and prints in strategic places but make sure they are appropriate to the room. If you can afford it, consider having a wall or room mural painted on the walls in your childs favorite theme such as a magical forest, sports or race cars.

Decorate with photos of your childs most fondest memories. Family pictures of fun vacations or photos of your child on a day of achievement can add a personal touch to his or her room.

Depending on the age of your child, consider adding lifelike statues of his or her favorite cartoon characters or super heroes. This can add a bit of whimsy and make the decor unique.

Plants always add softness to any room and live plants help to clean the air. Just be sure you don’t add any plants that can be toxic and that your child is old enough not to dig in the dirt in the pots!

Don’t forget about the lampshades when decorating a kids room. Lamps and their shades can be purchased to accent any type of theme. You can also try making your own shades by buying plain ones and embellishing them with accents the compliment the rooms theme. Make it into a project that you can do with your child and they will really feel a sense of accomplishment every time they go into their room and see the lampshade.

Select your bedding to match the theme of the room as well as for comfort. Be sure to buy sheets, pillows and comforters that can be mixed and matched and don’t forget to add some extra accent pillows. You can even buy curtains that match the bedding, or if the curtains are not available for the bedding you have chosen, buy an extra set of sheets and make your own curtains.

Turn your childs ceiling into a magical night sky with glow in the dark decorations. These can be fun and even comforting for your child to be able to lay in bed and gaze up at the night stars.

Don’t forget to put educational and informative things into your kids bedroom. Include books, charts and toys that add to the childs education. Then your children can be learning while having fun.
Decorating your kids bedroom is a great way to give them a place they can call their own inside your home. You might even find your kid spending more time in there!

I am now 18, and I want a new bedroom.
Can somebody tell me how to design a beautiful teenage bedroom for a girl?

Answer
First, you have to decide what kind of themes you like. Think of something like; fresh, or beach, or gothic, or anything.

Then you can start to pick elements that represent it, such as: colour, materials, ornaments, etc.

Pick those elements that suits your needs and the themes. You can make a contrast by each of the elements, but you don't want to have more than 3.

Example: If you want your theme to be fresh, then you want to start gathering colour elements, you can have like pale blue, coral blue, and one as contrast of navy blue. But you don't want to add one more colour like pink, because it makes harder for those element to get united.

Take your time and start exploring your ideas.

What are some colors that would go with a soft pink for a teenage girls room?

Kelly

My room is already painted a soft pink. I need different color/colors to go with it. I thought of pink and brown but I need more ideas. It would be awesome if you included a bed spread and matching decor. I will give a best answer. Thanks!

Answer
these are in order of difficluty:

The most classic design would be to use a light cream color for your accessories.. pink walls with cream colored drapes and bedspread. It would be calming and peaceful, great for a bedroom. You could liven it up a bit with texture and finish options. I assume the walls are eggshell so you could find a somewhat shiny bedroom set

A dark warm brown with a lot of red tint would also work but it would be a lot harder to find the color and it would be more difficult to accessorize.

If you wanted you could mix in that dark brown color and the cream color but keep the brown things small, like doing the pink and cream for everything and then brown pillow shams.

You could make more of a barbie style room if you found a purple with a lot of gray in it.

Another option would be to stick with the same color but find really bold versions of it.

~whatever you do you'll want to see the color in the room before you commit.

I will be moving to a small, one bedroom apartment and I have no idea how to decorate it! I have a queen size bed and it seems like it is the only thing that can fit in the bedroom but I was told a king size bed would fit. It has a fireplace and small dining are as well. Please help!!!
I want to use portraits to create a theme for my apartment but I can't decide on one. Please help!

Answer
CLASSY... a few JUST a FEW small but CLASSY touches and pieces of furniture.

Like a wrap around couch, and small end table in the living room.. a SMALL glass topped table in the dining with only a couple of chairs. AND fresh flowers. Sounds great actually.

I'm all about only using one or two classy pieces.

A beautiful bedroom throw on the bed, a couple of fake fur rugs and VOILA...

I loved seeing your avi and seeing the classy fedora.. That just fits the picture.

How Can I do an ocean theme master bedroom on a budget?

Forever Mi

We are planning on redesigning our master bedroom with an ocean/lake theme.
The walls for sure are going to be teal and white stripes with white trim.
We also plan on getting some shelves to put up, to put some little knik-knacks on.

The bed is oak and the bedding is navy on one side and baby blue on the other. We also have a black black-out curtain, so we can sleep in.

anything else we can do?

Answer
Wall murals are one of my favorite bedroom design ideas as it's a very inexpensive way to create your own fantasy island. You can find them as wide as 10.5 feet and 8 feet tall. Here's a couple links with teal colored water. Also consider smaller murals with portholes for windows or windows that look out onto water.

Another idea would be to hang a canopy over the bed made out of cotton duck or sail cloth. It could be attached to a wooden dowel and hung from the ceiling with rope. You may find a bargain this time of year on an outdoor canopy that can be hung in a wave like pattern, going from high to low to simulate sails or rolling waves.

If you have enough room why not use a beautiful outdoor lounge chair to go with your ocean theme. Think cruise ship luxury. Consignment shops may have some really cool old looking ones too for next to nothing.

Also, look for nautical lamps or light fixtures, again consignment shops are a great place to scout out bargains.

I am thinking about redoing my old fashioned town house to something more modern. I was thinking about having the whole house being black and white and then different color accents in each room.

1. Is this a good idea or does it just sound dumb?
2. What would be good accent colors there is a kitchen, living room, dinning room, guest room/ office, bathroom, and master bedroom?

Answer
Don't paint any wall black.
You can paint with grey colors. They are beautiful.
Living room :http://www.myperfectcolor.com/MyPerfectColor-Light-Grey-Flannel-p/mpc_ecc_00098372.htm
You can use black furniture if you use some color accents such as pillows and lamps.
Perhaps add yellow.
Dining room :http://www.myperfectcolor.com/Match-of-RAL-RAL7004-Signal-Grey-p/mpc0084291.htm
with yellow and blue accents.
Kitchen :Paint it yellow with stainless steal accents.

Want to replace sliding closet doors with something other then doors?

KimberlyAn

I have a large closet in my bedroom with old sliding doors that do not work very well. Looking for any creative ideas to cover the space.

Answer
I own a home remodeling company and invest in real estate, so bare in mind that by removing the sliding doors all together, you would affect your real estate value. If the doors are in bad shape consider replacing them with more modern looking bypass doors like the Nuporte 1210 series 3-lite or Nuporte 1240 3 panel doors. These are absolutely beautiful and affordable at www.homedepot.com (sold in 5ft, 6ft,7ft openings) Look at home depot's website and search under Nuporte doors so you can see the enormous variety offered. These look great and are of furniture quality.

In addition, please don't consider taking out to put curtain panels there. Again, this will destroy your resale value. Also, with bypass sliders....they are put in to save space in a bedroom, so removing them to put in double doors that open up into your room will take up an emormous amount of space when opened fully.

I have a really small room. I'm 12 and my furnture is really childish to me, my mom says we can't afford to get me new furniture until I'm much older. If I cant get new furniture i would like to find a way to make my room look better. I have neon green walls and I LOVE zebra stripes! Please give me easy and super cheap decorating ideas. :)

Answer
Hi,
What color is your furniture? You could paint it. I painted my dresser with gold metallic acrylic paint from Micheal's. I think the paint is 5 dollars for a big bottle, and they have every color you could ever want. You can get two different colors and paint one all over the furniture and use one with a stencil- I bet you can even find a zebra print stencil! To tie the room together, use the same stencil on the walls as you use on the furniture. Also, you can put rhinestones on your walls and furniture. They sell big rhinestone buttons at Wal-Mart. Just take the backs off of them, and glue them to anything you want. Kohl's and Target have cute comforters for about 30 dollars, and a new comforter can make you feel like you have a whole new room! Finally, try placing your furniture differently. Even something simple like that can give a room a whole new look. Good luck. :)

How should I decorate my new room?

Q.

Answer
Well first, paint it whatever color you want. Then find a bed set that goes with the color on your wall. Maybe add a cute fluffy rug. Add a couple of posters/paintings on your wall (make sure it matches the color). Add some accessories here and there. Make sure it fits your personality!
