It's the Spa Blue one and is a teenage girl's bedroom. Thanks!

Answer
Contemporary or Modern.

I love that this set has a very clean feel to it and the ruffle detailing is great.

I would suggest going for some darker accents in the room to add contrast to the bedding. You could do some really dark navy blue, if you wanted to stick with blues. Or for a more classic approach, chocolate brown or black.

If you want the room to have a bright fun feel, incorporating some lime green or dark purple would also work well.

Have fun! :)

what are some good places to get bedroom furniture and decor?

Q. hey everyone! i am going to redo my room. i am a teenage girl who wants a place where she can sleep, do homework, chill with friends etc. do any of you know where i can get cute stuff to redo my bedroom? i appreciate all the help i can get... :) thank you

Answer

I have a dark pink carpet and I want to redecorate my room?

Liza

I have a dark pink carpet which I am unable to change. I am a 16 year old girl and I am planning to redecorate my room however I'm not sure what to do as in colours? I was think maybe brown curtains? I'm not sure, any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks

Answer
I have heard it said many times from decorators, "If you can't change it - embrace it!" So, I would suggest that you find fabric (that has your same, or similar, dark pink in it) in a design/pattern that you really like. Then take colors from that to spread around your room.
http://www.cheertasticgear.com/fabricchoices.htm

How about making a quilt and hanging it on the wall as art (and it's useful, too)?
http://stitchyquiltstuff.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Brown is a great idea and here are some photos that might inspire you that way:

Answer
Soft Surroundings has beautiful bedding:
http://www.softsurroundings.com/Bedding_&_Bath/Bedding_Ensembles/
I think I would choose the Santorini or Tangiers collection for your bedroom.

Another good source for bedding is Home Decorators Collection:

That Rococo Set would look fantastic against your red walls.

What's an in-expensive, but sturdy, wood to use to build a bed?

Gwendolyn

Im building a queen size captains bed, and need ideas on what type of wood would be a good choice, that also wont bust my pocketbook.

Answer
The least expensive is pine, but it does not have to look it. Of course it can be painted any color. It can also be stained any shade. Minwax and several other companies make stains that will color it to look like many other woods, from darkening it ever so slightly to show the grain, to darking it to ebony. It is a softwood, and therefore will bow more than a hardwood, but it is much easier to work, and can be carved with chisels or with a Dremel tool.
Of hardwoods, maple and oak are fairly reasonable in price, and red oak in particular has a beautiful grain.
It is also possible to get hardwood plywoods (most plywood is pine) like birch, which I have a table made of about ten feet from where I am, that I made, and many people have liked it, and I do myself.
Most hardwoods, in my opinion, if the grain is selected carefully will not require a stain, but just a varnish.
I use wipe on polyurethane, which I apply with a cloth soaked in it. It seals the wood, darkens it slightly, and looks quite pretty. I put it on thin, so that you can still feel the grain (thick makes it plastic-y).
Use a circular saw with a fine toothed finish cut blade. Cover where you want to cut with masking tape, mark the tape, cut through it, and the edge will be smooth when the tape is removed.
Metal el brackets make the joints stronger, as do wooden dowels or "biscuits."
Pre-drilling holes keeps screws from splitting wood.
Good luck!

I am turning 15 years old and spend a lot of time in my room doing homework. I have tons of beauty products, so I need to organize. I also have a computer and a tv in my room. I really need themes, colors, and ideas for my room.

Answer
Well to start off figure out what you want to do with your wall. If you go with something dark it will make your room look smaller and darker. I would probably keep the room white and paint designs on it with other colors. Since you have a computer and a T.V. your going to need a desk/ entertainment center. My parents bought a large desk for me that has plenty of surface space for homework and my laptop and printer. It also has a book shelf thing attached to it, I keep my books, cds, and anything else I need in there. As for the TV I have a small stand with shelfs underneath. I would definatly recommend the shelfs if you have a vcr, dvd play or anything else. Another thing that really comes in hand it corkboard. You can paint it to be whatever color you'd like and it's handy for pictures, reminder, posters, or whatever else. Hanging Lanterns are fun too, You can get them in pretty much any color and they help add some extra light. You can also get floor or desk lamps, They help a lot too. The mirrors will make you room look bigger. The netting over the bed is a good idea, I have it over mine. It creates a fun, cute look but it can be annoying at times. For your makeup you could get some small storage bins (you can get them in any shape, color, and size) and use those.

What should I do for my 17th birthday?

Ellie

Hi there!
I am turning 17 in 4 weeks and live in Kentucky, and am wondering if you guys have any ideas for a party/gathering/event I could throw for my 17th!
My budget is 200$, I've raised it myself by walking dogs.
DETAILS:
My home does not have much space. I live in a small house out by the freeway and I have a moderately sized bedroom (floor space for up to 5 sleeping bags and bed space for up to 3 people).
There is 1 major mall by my home that all my guests could get to.
There are 3 restaurants.
Some of the things I like are shopping and makeup/beauty.
QUESTIONS:
HOW many people should I invite to my possible event?
Should I allow gifts or not?
What are some essentials to buy?
What are some popular 17th birthday activities?
AND FINALLY.....
WHAT should I do for my 17th birthday???

I am so stumped, I have no idea what I want to do! So, I'd love if the beautiful Yahoo Answers community could help me out! Thank you so much!
Ellie

Answer

where should i get stuff for my new room theme?

bedroom decorating ideas for girls zebra

bedroom decorating ideas for girls zebra image

Camryn

ok so in the next month before summer my parents are gonna redo my room, paint it, and a theme. i don't know what color or theme to do.. please help. plus ideas of where to get them from as well.

Answer
Before anyone can help with specifics, you need to have a theme or color scheme in mind. Since you do not, that should be your first priority. Some links to help with picking a theme for your room:

http://teensthemes.com/
http://www.raftertales.com/decorate/decor-themes/25-cool-teen-bedroom-themes/
http://www.digsdigs.com/60-cool-teen-bedroom-design-ideas/
http://www.hgtv.com/topics/teen-bedrooms/index.html

If you do not see anything that you like on one of these, then you can do a basic web search for "teen bedroom themes" and go from there.

What I would suggest that you do is to take a moment or two and make a list of your likes and dislikes style-wise, your two favorite colors, and the things that are important to you (family, friends, music, etc.). You'll also want to note whether you are a girly-girl, a tom-boy or somewhere in-between the two. These things can help you identify your style. Then it becomes a simple matter of finding a theme that incorporates a good portion of the things on your list. You may want to get started on this and get it finalized soon, so that the parents know what to get paint and bedding wise.

Some other sites that can help are:

For paint & color applications: www.sherwin-williams.com
Hip/trendy bedding & wall art: www.target.com (Seriously, look before you laugh - You will be surprised!)
Area rugs, lamps/lighting & decor items: www.ikea.com/us
Wall murals: www.greatbigcanvas.com

Finally, some advice that is more my personal opinion than fact:
Avoid hot pink or lime green and zebra print - It's overdone and you want to be unique, right?

A style/theme that is subdued and elegant is something that can evolve as you mature. Just because it's fashionable now doesn't mean it will be a year from now. Your aim should be something that grows with you. An easy one to pull off is black & white plus your favorite color for accent pieces or monochromatic (black, gray, white with one accent color): There are so many interesting black & white patterned bedding sets and many black & white photo posters available on-line and in stores that it is really easy to customize.

Be subtle/sedate with the color you choose for your walls. It is far easier to accent with neon-bright colors in accessories, decor items, bedding items etc (and easier on the eyes) than it would be to live and sleep in a screaming pink or hyper lime colored room.

Good luck, have fun and I hope that you end up with a great room!

How should I decorate my room?

Im 17 and I am expecting a baby boy in september. Right now I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with my mom but we are moving next month into a 3 bedroom so my son can have a nursery. My room is going to be a lot bigger then it is now and I am gonna have a queen size bed. I have no idea how to decorate my new room. I don't really want it to look like a teen girls room because i will be 18 soon. I want a more sophistacated and relaxing room. any ideas?

Answer
Use pastels and other neutral colors. Pick two main colors for paint and curtains (match the curtains to the bedspread) and a third color for accents. Avoid heavily printed items as they tend to distract the eye and counter act the relaxation. Rather than posters find some nice art pieces you like and frame them to hang them on your walls. Make sure to get some table lamps because side lighting adds that cozy, relaxing feeling that you can't get from an overhead light.

What are some lesser known facts about the Victorian days?

I have to write a book taken place in the Victorian days for school. What are some lesser known facts about the Victorian days that could hep me write the book better? I have Victorian names picked out, and the facts can be about girls, boys, adults, anything really. One is a royalty. Did they have royalty in the Victorian days? I really don't know. Thanks :)

Answer
Justins right.
Clothing sometimes consisted what is now called Baby Doll Gothic
And Baby Doll Angel clothes.
Women used only corsets, yep no bras. A strip of linen that was disposed after two weeks was worn instead of underwear.
Baths were taken once a week and sometimes in small tubs or public washrooms.

When a woman entered a room, it was considered rude for a man to offer his seat to her because the cushion might still be warm.

People thought food digested better in the dark, so a dining room located in the basement was considered the best spot in which to eat.

A glance into a bedroom was considered improper if viewed by a visitor, so bedrooms were located on the second floor.

People were shy about having water closets, so they disguised fixtures as dressers and cabinets. Tubs were enclosed in wooden boxes that resembled large chests. People went to great lengths to hide toilets from view. In some homes, they were behind a curtain or screen, or even in a room of their own.

Children rarely saw their parents. A special trip was made to the nursery each evening, and the visit lasted about an hour.

Women made pictures, wreaths, and bouquets from their own hair or the hair of a family member to be framed and displayed in the parlor.

Some rocking chairs were designed to disguise a chamber pot. People had to be careful not to rock too quickly!

A lot of men used macassar oil to slick back their hair. Crocheted doilies, called antimacassars, were put over the backs of chairs to keep this grease from staining the furniture.

For a lady to show her ankles was considered very risque!

To control insects, many people kept a HEDGEHOG in the basement. It curled up and slept in the day, but roamed around the dark kitchen at night eating cockroaches and other insects.

Some ladies suffered with facial hair,or "Bad Hair Days" or hated darning.

We are happy to tell you that it is now illegal for a husband to strike or beat his wife. His right of "moderate correction" was first questioned in the time of Charles the Second, and is now indefensible. A wife has the right to the custody of her child up to seven years of age. The personal property of a wife passes to her husband absolutely on her marriage, but her real (i.e.freehold) property can only be alienated by him during her life with her consent

In Victorian times, darning stockings was a task ladies undertook - time consuming and laborious.

What exactly Abstinence-only Education for girls does it make any difference?

pat m

What exactly is it trying to teach? A moral of the story?

Answer
Teaching "abstinence only" is in principle the same whether it is to girls or to boys, except that some tweaks here and there need to be made to accommodate for the genders' psychological differences. Basically, boys give love to get sex, while girls give sex to get love. Girls want to be loved and understood, while boys want to be respected and trusted. And so the teachings should adjust accordingly to the genders' persepectives.

"What it teaches", and "the moral of the story", though, is more complex. I think teaching abstinence in a culture that doesn't support the practice is almost pointless, because there are issues that are much bigger than "don't have sex outside the bounds of a faithful monogamous relationship". Sex ed is not designed to address those issues.

In order for abstinence to work for someone, he or she needs to: (1) have an inherent value system that puts abstinence high on someone's moral priority, and (2) be part of a community that supports that value system and will keep him or her accountable for it. Otherwise, abstinence can't work because it's simply counter to human nature.

(1) For most people, this is has to do with coming from a family that practices and advocates abstinence, and discourages sexual activity in unmarried family members. They typically grew up being taught that sex is meant to be saved for a faithful monogamous relationship with a long term love partner; and thus they also acquire a different understanding of love, romantic relationship, and family compared to other people who don't believe in abstinence. It's that complex value system and its various components in function that enables one to make the supposedly impossible commitment of abstinence.

Some other people can also acquire this change of value system later in life. But that doesn't happen without some serious life reprogramming and a lot of sacrifice.

(2) In the West today, most of society don't support the value system needed in order to make abstinence work. The norm is, "If it feels good and hurts no one, then do it."

In the Orient, however, abstinence is still greatly valued. I live in Southeast Asia, and even in big cities it is still common for educational institutions and NGO's to advocate abstinence instead of "safe sex" (although the latter is encouraged in the specific context of marriage). Extramarital sexual activities that are commonly tolerated in the West (e.g. cohabitation, sleeping with one's boyfriend or girlfriend, or losing one's virginity during one's teenhood) is typically frowned upon, and could mean losing favor with society.

Having said that, this does not mean that abstinence can't work in the West, or always works in the East. I've spent half my life living in the West, including half my teenhood and my early twenties, and I made it. Likewise, I also know a number of friends who have never left this part of the world, but have slept with a number of people since their teenhood and don't feel an inch of guilt about it. I come from the Southeast Asian country with the highest annual rate of abortions and a thriving prostitution industry, despite these being illegal here.

In the West, extra effort may need to be made to become part of a community that supports abstinence. Joining a single men or single women's mentorship group at a church is one example.

In both the East and the West, lifestyle changes need to be adopted for abstinence to work out. For instance, if you don't want to end up going all the way each time you're seeing someone new, you may want to start off by not making a habit of seeing someone new each time you fancy them, but rather keep some distance for awhile to observe that person as a friend. And if you do decide to see them, you're there to commit. You keep your clothes on, away from the bedroom, and keep your physical relationship to no more than holding hands and hugs, lest anything beyond that makes sex too difficult to avoid. You don't look up porn or any other material that would otherwise arouse your desires. You don't live with or stay overnight at your partner's, and you don't let your partners bed down at yours either.

How can I make my bedroom cozier and prettier?

Zoe

I am a 13yr old girl and I want to make my bedroom feel like a place I actually want to hang out in because at the moment it is sort of boring. The problem is I can't paint the walls and I only have a budget of about $60- $70. I want to make it indie or vintage looking. If anyone has any tips on how I could do this it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Answer
The best place to go will probably be to resale shops like Good Will. Check in your phone book. And yard sales, check your newspapers or look out on Friday and Saturdays on the corners. This will stretch your dollar. To get it right, go slow, and don't be anxious to buy all you need right away.

Even if you can not paint your walls, there are things you can do with your walls.
1. hang sheets, or curtains on them by using small nails to tack around the top of the walls. Sheets and curtains can be found at both of above. If you have some ideas on the colors and designs you like, you could get white sheets and then, buy some Ritz dye, at the grocery store, and go in the back yard with your designs that you made on paper, and paint them onto the sheets. Don't get discouraged. Usually once you get all the white out of the sheet, or paper, what ever you are drawing on it will look better. Decide wether you want the sheets flat or to be ruffled along the wall.

2. You can use the same material to cover your lamp shades. If you do not have lamps, you can get them cheap at the above sources as well, and indirect lighting softens the room. You could even use a stencil and draw that on the lampshade or the sheets. Blue guns are great for crafts, and don't cost much, go to a sewing store for these.

3. You might be able to find discontinued wall paper at a paint store. You can staple this to the walls, and it should only leave very small punctures. Even if you can't find all one pattern you can mix patterns or only do one wall. It really brightens up a room.

4. If your room is small, be on the look out for mirrors. You can paint all the frames a certain color or gold, silver, or pewter for a retro look. You can even make a wall full of mirrors. Often putting them opposite the light source (window) in your room can increase the light and the sense of the outdoors in your room.

5. You could drape one of the sheets above your bed like a canopy, by stapling it to the ceiling. Have someone help you, as one staple tends to pull out while you are trying to get the next in. Someone holding it in place until you get enough staples to hold it where you want helps.

6. You will need a yard stick or tape measure, a hammer, stapler, some small thin nails with large round heads. Ikea, tends to have cheap good tool kits all together for about 10$. Put your name on the box and the tools so they don't walk off.

7. Using the same materials and designs make a few pillows for your bed or chair. The trick is to repeat a few colors though out your room. This ties the room together.

8. If you see some pictures for the wall that you like cheap enough, pictures on the wall often really help make the room. Even if you can only find frames, draw the pictures yourself...remember as long as you fill in ALL the white spaces, almost anything you draw will look good.

Good luck, x

Does anyone have any pictures or ideas for a techno-style bedroom?

adagio_75

My 15 year old sister-in-law wants to change her bedroom design from a mostly leopard print theme to techno. I want to help her but I really don't know what techno design for a room would look like. She doesn't have alot of money to completely refurnish the room so items like her leopard print area rug, leopard print lamp shades and picture frames will have to be used. Any ideas or pictures would be great.

Answer
When I think of a techno style bedroom I think of lots of fun bright cheery colors with nice white sleek backdrop. For a techno styled bedroom; you could do a modern look. Go for clean, straight lines if possible. I would go for a white or neutral backdrop with pops of color. If some new furniture pieces are in your budget look for white furniture (bed frame, dresser, desk, nightstand)or you can repurpose old furniture and paint it white. For accessories look for bright colors like orange (for a lamp; can’t afford a new lamp you can take an existing lamp, sand it down and spray paint it in an high gloss orange (or whatever bright colors she likes), yellow (picture frames, pillows), and green (pillows, vases for flowers, etc.). If she doesn’t like those colors, you can do any color combo that she will like. You can find a cheap/good looking area rug @ Wal-mart in white, but if you don’t look for white (or another color) bath rugs and connect them together with carpet tape to make a large area rug. You can also change out the lamp shades for a cheap cost or you can cover existing lamp shades with fabric to match the new room décor. For the walls you can blow up her favorite DJ album covers and frame them; or you can get vector silhouettes of DJ’s like this : http://garcya.us/blog/free-dj-vector-graphic-art/ or http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/2286211/2/istockphoto_2286211_dj_at_turntable or http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/4306917/2/istockphoto_4306917_dj_silhouette.jpg or http://www.smashingmagazine.com/images/iconsnew/bittbox.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5671904/2/istockphoto_5671904_beach_party.jpg or images like these and have them blown up to put them on the walls. You can also blow up varying silhouettes of dancers and put them on the wall (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5753237/2/istockphoto_5753237_spring_girl.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5768186/2/istockphoto_5768186_just_wanna_have ). Also music notes and headphones (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5481959/2/istockphoto_5481959_grunge_headphones.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5802696/2/istockphoto_5802696_headphones.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5881226/2/istockphoto_5881226_hand_drawn_musik_retro.jpg would be a cool option also. For bedding you can do something simple like white with a bright colored throw and pillows or bright colored bedding with white pillows and one bright colored accent pillow. Also for bedding you can do bedding in a fun solid color and do an image transfer of her favorite DJ or techno image. Hope this gives you a few ideas, good luck :)

Answer
The bed frame definitely looks like it may possibly be from PB Teen, though I am not sure about the bedding. If it is in fact PB Teen they usually sell everything on their magazine ad pages for the most part in conjunction with the room "set" so it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

where should i get stuff for my new room theme?

Camryn

ok so in the next month before summer my parents are gonna redo my room, paint it, and a theme. i don't know what color or theme to do.. please help. plus ideas of where to get them from as well.

I want to use portraits to create a theme for my apartment but I can't decide on one. Please help!

Answer
CLASSY... a few JUST a FEW small but CLASSY touches and pieces of furniture.

Like a wrap around couch, and small end table in the living room.. a SMALL glass topped table in the dining with only a couple of chairs. AND fresh flowers. Sounds great actually.

I'm all about only using one or two classy pieces.

A beautiful bedroom throw on the bed, a couple of fake fur rugs and VOILA...

I loved seeing your avi and seeing the classy fedora.. That just fits the picture.

How do I make my bedroom look more sophisticated?

Q. I'm 17, and I have no idea how to decorate my room. I feel like it looks like it belongs to a 13-15 year old girl. And I desperatley want it to look more sophisticated and mature. Sort of like the teenage bedrooms on tumblr, but not the rebellious looking ones with magazine cutouts and posters plastered everywhere.

Help please :)

Answer
There are plenty of options to choose from. But before starting out, you must have a budget in mind and go from there. You don't want to start out on something and end up realizing that for a good effect, you have to end up spending a small fortune. Do you have hobbies or things that you're really keen on like movies, sports, collections or anything like that? That's a good way to start off if you want to have a room that's completely you.

I'll just give you an example here. If you're a collector of sorts who collects stamps, coins, dried flowers etc. you can have display shelves with your collection proudly displayed. You can have wooden furniture to match the room. Solid colored bed linen and accessories will give an intellectual air to the room.

If you like an old-fashioned room, lovely antiques or at least some antique furniture will look beautiful in your room. You can go with lace and tulle and transparent, feminine-looking drapes. A big, oval mirror in a bronze frame will add a touch of charming elegance.

Or if you want to have a typical teen room, bright and cheerful, go with colorful bedding and accessories. This is my personal favorite. Go with a quilt in warm, happy colors. Make the bed the focus of attention with the quilt. Art work for the walls like canvas prints, oil on canvas or acrylic and water color on canvas will create an atmosphere of cozy warmth. Canvas prints of country scenes or flowers or anything that adds to the colorful theme is good. Add some colorful rugs on the floor and throw some pillows on the bed in bright jewel colors.

I was just browsing around and found a website that has some interesting ideas on how to select art work for your walls: http://www.become.com/hub/collectibles-art/paintings-art-sculpture/tips-for-choosing-home-decor-artwork/

How will you educate your children?

Fabian Sch

What do you plan for your child? Do you have any plans? Will you let them do sports early? What about languages? What gender do you hope your child to be of? What will you do different if you get a boy / a girl? Have you learned from your own childhood and youth? What? Did you have any children yet and did you learn from this experience?
OK these are many questions, simply answer whatever gets into your mind, I consider this a brainstorming.

I'm still 14 years old so don't wonder whether I'm planning to have a child :P

Answer
To be honest I haven't really thought about it, having children isn't exactly top of my priorities list at the moment.

- Ideally I think I'd like two boys and a girl, with my son being the eldest.

- I will teach my children to be bilingual. My Grandmother is French but for some reason my father never taught me the language when I was younger, so I've had to learn it along the way (and still am) I'll make sure my children speak it as fluently as English. If I pick up any more languages before they arrive on the scene I'll teach them that as well.

- My family is quite musical and artistic (I started to play the piano when I was 2) so I'd like to introduce them to it at an early age just to see if they have an interest and/or talent for it and to develop it if they want to.

- I'll make sure that my children take to water like a fish. I grew up over-looking the sea from my bedroom window and spent countless hours in the water. Whether or not I raise my own children by the sea I'll at least make sure they know how to swim and can visit their local pool frequently.

- I'll gradually teach them to take hard work in their stride.

- Sports? I'd like them to be active and if they take an interest in a particular sport I'll encourage it but I'm not going to force them to participate. Just as long as they don't sit around all day I'll be content.

- I'll encourage a love of learning.

- I'll teach all of them to be able to hold themselves in a fight and to be independent. I was always "one of the guys" growing up and being able to rough it was a requirement. There was one child in our area who would fuss over every little thing from not getting his way, being denied a toy to cutting his knee and often stormed off with the phrase "I'm telling" he was not very popular and I wouldn't want my children to get the idea that they need to run to mummy and daddy for everything. I'd make sure they knew they could come to me, but to try and fend for themselves as well.

- As for school. I'm really not sure. I'm leaning towards a private school rather than a public one (if I can afford it) you learn more life lessons in a public school but I've also seen how it can destroy people and hold them back from their true potential. My cousin went completely off the rails in public school because of stress and peer pressure, my other cousin excelled in every way. I only attended public school for a few years but in the end I was home tutored as I was always moving around with my family, I did miss being with my peers. Being home tutored you can learn at your own pace and depth, you don't get the social benefits, but you do tend to have a richer depth of knowledge (so long as your serious in your studies) with public school you get the social benefits of interacting with peers and learning to grow emotionally, but you can only go as far in your studies as the school allows and the school allows a very narrow margin designed to fit the "average student" you're held back if you're above it and you're left to struggle if you're below it. Private school seems to be the middle ground.
The other option being a Grammar School.

- I'll encourage them to be extroverts.

- I'll teach them to be respectful, especially to elders.

I am needing decoration idea's for my little girl's room. In 4 months I will be giving birth to another girl and they will be sharing rooms. I need it to be suitable both for my unborn baby and my 2 year old. Serious answers only please.

Answer
Hi Sophie,
Congratulation on the upcoming birth of your 2nd daughter! Because your girls are close in age the decorating theme you choose will work for both. The colors that work well in girls rooms are Pink White and Green. The themes oh, are so many to choose from. You could design the room in Tinkerbell, little Princesses theme or Garden themes with all butterflies and flowers or Winnie the Pooh and so on. Space is always a thought, and how best to utilize it is a common concern. If your daughter(s) room is square I would suggest that two walls have one daughters area of bed bureau etc, and the next two walls have baby's things crib, changing table and so forth. Keeping the center space open of the room for your 2 year old to play. Happy Decorating!

ok my 15 yr old is sitting here telling me to let you know that:
15 year old looking to change up her bedroom?

Posters will work, or how about taking lots of pictures of yourself and your friends and put them on the wall.

She just had the SAME problem. We live in a rental..so drastic paiting is OUT for us . what she just did was she went to the dollar store and buy a bunch of frames. put pics of ur friends and fam. She is totally into black and white and pink .maybe put some posters up of celebrities, animals . She just
bought a black rug..She has NO carpet in her room. i got black and white frames...and a black mesh cover to go over my closet. And pink mesh to go over her bed. i got a white bed cover..with a lot of black and white and pink pillows. it looks soooo SWEET! the good thing is with black and white..you can add little splashes of color in..like she added a pink tee light candle holder. well.ur 15... around her ageTry coverring your ceiling.. maybe some black fabric that you paint designs on. or a collection of bandana's (hankies) you can find really cool ones with skulls and flames. or start a collection from Hot Topic. For your walls, posters are a classic, but maybe hit a thrift store and find old cd covers and frame a bunch of them.

Some of the sticker machines have some really fun bumper stickers and such. again frame them in large poster frames (so you aren't messing up the walls with holes or stickers)
She bough peg board to fit one wall so she can hang photos, posters and miscellanous items on without messing the wall up.
As for your bed you can get slates of wood, ask your dad for the correct size, then build a base for the bed, your bed is still close to the floor, but mattress not on it.
Have fun and use things that you love!

How can I decorate my bedroom walls for cheap?

coopermb07

Hello,
we just moved from Germany to the USA and had to spend a lot of money on the move. Now I don't have a whole lot of money left for decoration, and our bedroom walls in our apartment are just plane white and boring. I would like to hang some black and white art or pictures. How can I do something like this my selfe for cheap? It doesn't have to be black and white though. I'm open for everything. Does anybody have any idea? I hope you can help me! Thank you so much.

Answer
I like the first answer but if thats not what you want to do, you could paint (or have) a mural painted on the wall actually from a photo, your favorite painting etc. in black and white....or you could put fabric on the walls, its really not as bad as it sounds. Depending on how its done, it can actually turn out beautiful! You could also use stencils and paint patterns on them....another thing you could do is paint words on the walls... like ''dream'' ..... ''imagine'' etc. I know its child like but if its done well and in the right colors, your room will actually have a more relaxed atmosphere. I read that one in an article on hgtv. Anyway good luck!

Ideas for decorating room Old Hollywood style?

-

hi i'm 14 and redecorating my room. I'e always been facinated with old film stars and old films (eg Jimmy Stewart, Rita Hayworth, Gone with the wind,Casablanca etc) i was wondering if you hae any ideas on how i could decorate my room in this style. thankyou!

Answer
here are some photo inspirations for you:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/brightblade/152727355/ (can paint your bedroom walls in a light chocolate brown, look for white furniture or you can paint exsisting furniture in a antique white finish...accent with silver, crystal/glass...and other pale colors (like pale gray, gold for art and pillows)

http://blog.designpublic.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/picture-10.png (Would change the color combination to silver & white, chocolate & white, or gold and white, accented with glass table, black and white photos, satin sheers, and a chandelier) (http://www.decorpad.com/images/1/orangebedroom.jpg)

http://www.utahluxury.com/blog/2008/03/06/hollywood-glamour-entertainers-dream-home/ (look at the 2nd and 3rd picture)

another suggestion:
Hollywood glamour in my mind speaks crystals/glass, silver tones, with light pastel colors(candice olsen style). Think of the Victoria's Secret boxes/bags. I'd consider the victoria's secet color scheme. Maybe two shades of pale pink stripes, vertical or horizontal on the walls w/a pearl color trim. Add crystal, silver and black accents/accessories and a beautiful cream color long haired rug. With black and white photos of Old Hollywood Stars.

hope this helps good luck:)
