How to use animal prints in a bedroom?
Q. We are redecorating my 9 yr old daughters bedroom. We have just painted her walls a light sage- almost lime green with white trim. She is a real animal lover and wants to us animal print fabrics in her room but I am unsure how to make it work and not overpower the room. Can I us a solid color bedding such as purple and accent with animal prints? I want to give it a jungle/safari look but still be girlish also. I see alot of various prints being mixed and matched in kids rooms these days but I am just unsure how to pull it all together.
Thanks!

Need help for glamorous bedroom ideas?

Q. I’m moving into a new apartment and I’m planning on decorating the bedroom in an old Hollywood glamour. Problem is, I will be sharing it with my boyfriend so the room can’t scream female. I believe I want the main colors to be a baby/light blue, white, and maybe like a tan-ish. Any ideas on where to get CHEAP items for the bedroom, or even ideas of what to decorate it with? I need everything from a headboard to lamps to little trinkets!

A. Look at Target or even flea markets. You can get great things there, you just have to look through the junk to find treasures.

I would suggest dark wood. It is not to girly, and it can be glamorous. Also, get lots of lighting with dramatic shades. it'll be nice!

Any unique fairy theme bedroom decorating ideas for 2 little girls?
Q. We are remodeling our girls' room and they are wanting a fairy theme. We already have the walls painted white with an allover sponge effect done in pink, so I'd like to mainly stick to that color and perhaps incorporate a bit of purple too. I'm looking for some creative ways to decorate using this theme. I am very crafty, so I would love to hear some DIY ideas although any other "thrifty" ideas are great too, since we are also remodeling our boys' bedroom as well and are on a strict budget. Thank you!

A. If it isn't too expensive, you can paint the crown molding the lavender or purple to add dimension. You can go to the halloween stores online now while the stuff is cheap or to Lillian Vernon and Oriental Trading Company and find the Fairy Wings that come in Costumes and Hang them above their beds or in the corner of the room.

There is this craft I made with my daughter a few years back of these flower fairies: with wooden beads as heads, pipe cleaner as bodies, and silk flowers as dresses. You can probably google it and find it easy enough but they can be hung up with fishing wire. Very cute.

Also think about painting the ceiling with a bunch of fluffy white clouds or hanging a cute chandelier you can get a garage or estate sale.

Oh yeah! I had one of those bed canopies on my daughters bed for years! Totally forgot about that!

I have this huge blank wall in my bedroom and need some ideas on what to do with it...?
Q. Does anyone have any cool decorating ideas? Or know of any websites that I might get some inspiration from?

A. try mirrors in different shapes, prints or paintings or even paint your own canvas's if you want a cheap option.
if it's a big wall, try a feature wall.

Teen boy bedroom decorating ideas?

Q. I am looking for ideas on decorating a teen boy's bedroom in a video gamer style/theme room, but I don't have any ideas on how to do this. Does anyone have any good ideas? What colors would be best to use? What types of decorating items could I use? Thanks!

A. Well to start with a gaming teen boy will most likely not care what his decor is, unless it directly affects his gaming, or is game related... (well none that I have met care anyway) so I wouldn't go toooo far with decorating, leave the walls neutral, and put these up, I know it is old now, but they're so old they're now retro kitsch
space invaders wall decals (they also come in pacman) http://www.patriciafield.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=354
Unfortunately this thing is only avail in eastern europe, but WOW! http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/images/2007/10/18/2battleprobig_2.jpg
back to reality though, for bedding I'd just use a totally plain cover that will wear well, the focus isn't about a bed cover in this room, so patterns or designs would be overbearing, unless of course he finds one he is crazy about??
For some great gaming seating target has lots but check this one out, its a sound lounger that is compatible with any audio device... http://www.target.com/Blue-Pyramat-Sound-Lounger-PM550/dp/B00069FEZ6/sr=1-2/qid=1216943582/ref=sr_1_2/602-9342378-8675002?ie=UTF8&index=target&field-original-keywords=Pyramat%20PM220%20Sound%20Rocker&rh=k%3Apyramat%20pm550%20sound%20rocker&page=1
but target has other gaming seating that is pretty cool... http://www.target.com/Video-Game-Furniture-Games-Electronics/b/602-9342378-8675002?ie=UTF8&node=13921431
and for console and games storage there are these two..

For all your other furniture I still think IKEA covers everything teens need, http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/youth_room but to suit your theme, I'd start with the gaming accessories and then match the furniture, bedding and walls etc, for a cool take though, these lighting strips look fantastic (and if he's gaming overhead light isn't a great idea) http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50119407
I'd also use something like the tupplur roll blind to block out light, http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/youth_room/10701/
and these glass globes look fantastic alone or on top of a little ikea light (can't remember its name but glass globe and light cost me about $20 together) and really look amazing in a darkened room.. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90065662
Other than that, I'd be trying to find some posters of his favorite games, not making the room too bright, and here are a few other smaller ideas to accessorise the room (retro again but he may be too young to appreciate it??) http://www.fredflare.com/customer/product.php?productid=3714&cat=254

What color should I paint my room?
Q. I'm almost 17 and I want to paint my room but I'm not sure what color I'm thinking eitherbanteal blue or light blue this would be the teal: http://bedroomdesigncatalog.info/light-blue-bedroom-walls/bedroom-decorating-ideas-light-blue-walls/

And this would be the light blue: http://homedecorinterioridea.com/ideas-for-painting-a-bedroom-in-blue.html

I'm sewing bedding that looks like this in white:http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/home-bedding/093707.jsp

If I do the teal I would add pink accents and make it more fun and if I did the light blue it would be more simple and elegant and btw my furniture is dark brown so I'm not sure what one I would rather have!! So what do you like best and do you have any decor idea to go with?

A. Deep blue will look so good with that lovely bedding. No mint green/blue.
This is a relaxing blue that will really make that bedding pop:http://www.allaboutyou.com/cm/allaboutyou/images/ud/or_e64817c112329680607579.jpg
There is a blue/green color that does look nice:http://img4.myhomeideas.com/i/legacy/design/cl/02/03/CL0203072b_1_x.jpg
This one is amazing :https://www.ikeafamilylive.com/en/image/19082011054333/bedroom-blue-feature-wall-95.jpg?w=850&h=650
Have fun decorating.

What sort of master bathroom design would go well with a bedroom like this?
Q. The fixtures in the bathroom are white, and it has a rather large window.

The bedroom will be following this color scheme:
http://www.khanapakana.com/userfiles/diya/bedroom_decorating_ideas_teal_feather.jpg

A. I believe in light-filled bathrooms, with any décor items on the walls rather than cluttering up the countertops. That color scheme is great for a bathroom, especially if you mostly use light tones (sky and sand), with darker ones as small accents to match the strong blue and brown from the bedroom. Make your blue very pale, though, and go easy on how large an area you give it, or else the blue reflections will make it difficult to judge your makeup colors accurately.

A two-color scheme for the towels is ideal – brown for him, turquoise for her. I'd suggest white washcloths, because they go through the laundry a lot and can fade early. At our house, for each person we have two large bath towels, two hand towels, and a dozen washcloths, and still the washcloths run out first.

Rather than fussy curtains, you might prefer a Venetian blind or wooden shutters painted white, especially if you'll want an exhaust fan in the window during the summer.

I've been reading that a multi-light bar over the main mirror is going out of style, and wall lamps on either side are the more contemporary look. I'm sorry, but I do like my light bar.

Decorating Den is running a promotion on the Internet where the public can vote for their favorite before-and-after makeover pictures. There are categories, and bathrooms are one. Maybe you'll see an idea you like, although most of them are too elaborate for me.

Their voting site, http://iddvoting.com is open to everyone. Go to "Pick a Category".

Decorating my Bedroom?!?

Q. I am 14 and moving into a new house and was wondering what would be good websites to find bedroom decorating and painting ideas? What ideas do you have for me? I have oak furniture with like a dark bass bedpoast. Any help??

A. Try www.dulux.co.uk under the heading "inspiration" there are a lot of design and colour ideas and even a quiz to help you find your own colour match. Other manufacturers probably have similar sites.
One tip from me..if you fall in love with a really expensive or simply beautiful wallpaper then ask the assistant for a sample length to take home ..frame it up and put it on the wall like a picture or even a couple of pictures if you have enough; the effect is great against a painted surface and if you want to use small frames then go and look at fabrics..a tiny amount will do the trick and you can change things pretty much as often as you please.

I need help with bedroom decorating ideas!
Q. K i have lots of questions so here they are:
Q1) what theme of a room should i have?
Q2) what color theme of a room should i have?
Q3) Any good websites that are cheap that sell bedding in a bags?
Q4) Where can i find cheap white wood furniture?

So those are my questions and here is a little bit about myself to help you answer them even better! I'm 16, i'm girlie, i'm on dance team, i'll be a junior, love shopping, i have brown hair, green eyes, love couture, love acting, love singing, love san fran and new york and paris and italy, and love friends. Hope this helped!

A. Sorry to be boring but you should choose your own 'theme', and secondly, I hate "themes" - just go with something you either love or that expresses who you are, what makes you happy when you walk into a room? What colours? Textures (like faux fur, suede, etc)? or cool lighting or masses of pictures or a minimalist environment?
The options are endless unfortunately, anyway, you are supposed to be asking the questions, so my answer is,
1) I still can not pick a theme for you (well if I knew you well enough I probably could take a guess but I don't so this ones a no go)
2) Pick any colour you love a lot and go with it, you can either make items accents of your favorite colour (like a purple lamp, desk chair and cushions) and the rest of the room neutrals (whites, creams, beiges, even black) or you can go nuts with it, but for goodness sake don't pick a colour you aren't that keen on it is your space you should feel fabulous in it
3) http://shopping.yahoo.com/s:Bed%20in%20a%20Bag:4492-Sales%20&%20Deals=All%20Sale%20Items
also try places like bizrate etc that list for loads of companies much quicker than going from site to site searching, but don't forget places like target, crate and barrel, outblush etc. However you are 16 so I'd be heading here http://www.wakeupfrankie.com/ , its totally girly and gorgeous and if you don't get any ideas there, well try the links at the end of this post.
4) other than ikea, you could op shop (thrift store) for pieces and paint them, it is easier than most people think and if you change the handles you can make some seriously ugly pieces gorgeous in no time flat for less than $30
Ok, try some of these sites for room inspiration...

http://www.bhg.com/decorating/
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/decorating/
I am no longer allowed to put in huge lists of links so google some of these if you are still stuck
BedBath&Beyond
habitat Uk
PBTeen

and somewhere on the HGTV website there will be a link to the show Find Your Style, if you are still stuck to know what you want to do with your room, there is a quiz on the find your style page that helps you find out what style you actually are, should help you figure out what you'll love in your room. Oh and while you are there go to the Colin and Justins Home Heist site and go to the photo gallery there are around 20 homes they have done over so far but they do the most stylised over the top makeovers, mostly adultish but some are really fun, worth a look!
Good Luck

I am trying to get ideas on decorating a house. Where can I get pictures of themes hotel rooms?

Q. I am not sure what type of theme, but I really like contempory/modern and romantic silks for a bedroom.

A. What I did and do, is go to an excellent book store such as Barnes and Noble and thumb through some mags in their amazing Home and Garden selectionOf those that I bought, .I would rip out the pix that I liked and started my own ideas folder.I would take it with me whenever I went shopping or in my case, gave to my friend who is a decorator, to see if she could locate the color, item, etc.

Italian Mags are expensive but that is where you will find super modern lines in furniture.Romantic silks for the bedroom can cost you. However, what you need is a fabric showroom. You can always ask for free samples from the major houses.Sometimes you have to be a decorator.Ask some of your friends and your friends friends.I bet you will be in touch with a decorator that SOMEONE you know, knows!

I believe in hands on , but my ideas have all come from Magazines. You may check a really large library for issues like ARChitectural Digest, House and Garden, etc. that you could possibly look through and then back order if you want the original.I love House and Gardens.I always find things I like.
Also do not be afraid to take 1 idea from 1 picture to combine with another picture.I hope you are helped!
Hotel Rooms? Hmmm...
Again, someone in the interior design business might be able to help you to obtain something like this. Good luck to you!

What are some good decorating tips for bedrooms?
Q. Any tip and tricks for making it look cozy but also bigger! I have recently moved and now my bedroom is mostly white and yellow with beech colored furniture : )

A. You could probably warm it up best by adding some brown, sage or cinnamon shades to your yellow and white scheme. You can do this easily with a few pillows, a small area rug, draperies or a throw.

What would be some good magazines for decorating a girl's bedroom?
Q. I want to redecorate my bedroom but i can't seem to think what i want it to be like. What would be some good magazines that would give me ideas and hints about what i can make it like.
{I'd want to make it kinda girly-ish, if that sorta helps =D}

A. Domino Magazine is a good one:
http://www.dominomag.com/

Better Homes & Gardens:
http://www.bhg.com/decorating/

BH&G also has many "special interest" magazines that you can find on the newsstands with titles like "Beautiful Bedrooms," "Cottage Style," "Creative Home" and so forth. You should be able to find something from them.

Also "Country Living," "Cottage Living," "Home," "InStyle Home," "Elle Decor," "Budget Decorating," "Martha Stewart Living," etc.

What is the easiest way to decorate little boy bedrooms?

Q. Okay here we go they love to play of course so need some ideas for keeping toys organized. And decorating ideas 2 boys to a bedroom and does any one have any ideas for a replacement for blinds. They destroy them and I don't care for blinds anyways I need a fresh idea to block the sun and get rid of blinds!!! Thanks a bunch!!!!

A. As far as the blinds go, I would suggest a full window shade instead. It won't have the cords and vinyl pieces for them to break, like traditional mini blinds have. They're much easier for children and at the same time, very stylish.

Something like this. http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=48141&CatID=48141&Grptyp=ENS&ItemId=15554ee&cmRef=http://www.jcpenney.com/products/C61069.jsp

As far as organizing their room, check out these helpful articles

http://housekeeping.about.com/od/childrensrooms/a/organizekids.htm

http://www.ehow.com/how_137203_organize-kids-rooms.html

With the decorating, don't spend too much because their interests change quickly.

Here's a good one on decorating

What are some ideas to decorate a rented house?
Q. We live in a rental house, and I would like some simple decorating ideas and/or tips that won't cost a lot of money but that will make a diffenence even if it's small things that can be done or brought over time to add to the overall affect. I would like to concentrate on the living room first. Any websites that may help me would also be much appreciated. Thank you.

A. Okay... well, first you have to start with deciding on a 'Style' or 'Theme'. What do you want your Living Room to feel/look like?

Country? Log Cabin/Rustic? Victorian? Shabby Chic? Contemporary/Modern? Tuscan? French? Traditional? Old-World?

Are you going to be using existing furniture, or buy new furniture? If existing furniture, what kind of furniture is it? If it won't fit in with the 'Style' you want, you can always slipcover the pieces.

What kind of flooring is in the Living Room? Carpet? Hardwood? Tile? Linoleum? And what colour is it? An Area Rug will go a VERY long way in 'anchoring' the 'Style' you have chosen.

Then you want to look to the Draperies. You may want to replace the existing ones (keeping them in a bag to be dry-cleaned and re-hung when you move out, taking the new ones with you). If you have Blinds in there, (what colour are they?), you can always add a Valence and some Panels to embellish them.

Then you want to look for Art Work that will better represent the 'Theme' you have chosen.

As well, you would want to consider Bookcases, End Tables, Ottomans, and your Entertainment Center if your Television and/or Stereo are in there. What are they sitting on, or cased-in, now?

You want your Colours to be represented thru the Area Rug, Slipcovers, Draperies/Valences, Art Work, and Sofa Pillows.

Can you Paint the walls? What will your Landlord allow you to do?

All these things, (except Painting the wall, of course, *lol*), can be taken with you when you move.

As you can see, 'Decorating' is really done in 'layers'... each layer building upon the previous one. But the 'Style' must be chosen first. Then the 'Colours' you want to use to represent that 'Style'.

Here's a couple of links to help you decide on a 'Style/Theme'...

Master bedroom furniture is traditional dark brown (new), what color can I paint walls?
Q. Bedroom furniture consits of King size bed, two night stands and nine draw dresser. Considering to have 50" TV over dresser, sitting area and include small kitchenette.

A. Hi!

Brown is a neutral color, so basically, you can paint any color under the rainbow with it... it all depends on what you like. There are a few things to remember though, and I have a few suggestions... Hope this helps:

To have complete color harmony in any room, you need to have 3 colors: 1 dominant color (usually the walls), 1 medium color (usually the trim, molding, ceiling, furniture, etc.) and 1 accent color (usually decorative accents such as cushions, vases, throws, etc.). You can use the same color as your funiture as you do on an accent wall or all the walls... it depends on lots of things like your lighting, but we'll get to that later.

In decorating, black and white are not considered colors. White is the absence of all color. That's why you can match it with any color under the rainbow. Black is the mixture of all colors. That's why it too, can be mixed with any color under the rainbow. It's not necessary to have any white in a room, but it is very important that you have at least one black item: a vase, a picture frame, a throw rug, a cushion, a curtain rod, a lamp, etc.... you get the idea). The black will ground ALL of your colors together. So don't forget to add something black in your room.

What color of brown is your furniture: Black-brown (as in very dark espresso coffee), dark chocolate brown, etc. Since you didn't say, here are some color schemes that work with different types of brown furniture. The way to use them is for the 1st color = dominant 2nd color = medium and 3rd color = accent. Of course, you can use them in any other way you like, thought the ones listed here are best together in just this way. (after, you'll get some links to some nice color inspiration).

Chocolate brown & Terra-cotta & Taupe
Chocolate brown & Metallic Gold & Neutral bisque
Chocolate brown & Delicate teal & Teal blue
Chocolate brown & Teal blue & Gernaium red
Chocolate brown & Brick red & Sky blue

Espresso brown & Soft Orange & Coffee with cream
Espresso brown & Aquamarine & Silver
Espresso brown & Blushing Pink & Silver
Espresso brown & Hot pink and Icy Silver
Espresso brown & Candy apple red & Graphite gray
Espresso brown & Cinnamon & Pale sky blue

Light purple & Teal Blue & Geranium red
Cream & Earthy green & Cinnamon
Gold & Copper & Brownish Taupe
Coral brown & Cream & Rich brown
Brilliant yellow & Lavender & Light brown
Orange & Burnt Orange & Brown
Gray brown & Red & Cream
Orange & Dark brown & Metallic gold
Golden yellow & Sky blue & Velvety brown
Aquamarine & Butterscotch gold & dark brown
Cinnamon & Dark brown & Sky blue

This part would have been easier if you would have given us the style of furniture you have, but the pics should help for color inspiration... I hope you enjoy this, because I certainly enjoyed doing the research for this. I LOVE doing this !!!! :)

So... hope that was fun...

The best and most trusted way to find the color for any room, is to take an accessory or decorative item that will be going into that room: the duvet cover, the curtains, a painting, a rug, blinds, shutters, upholstered furniture, a lamp... you get the idea). Choose the item with passion. Make it something that you ABSOLUTELY LOVE, perhaps it was handed down by your great-grandmother or a cherished item you worked hard for. Or make it something that just SCREAMED out your name when you were shopping, so you knew you had to have it! Choose your color pattern from that item. And take it from there.

Keep in mind too, that color is an amazing thing! There's psychology behind color - it can make you have wonderful, relaxing dreams... or it can keep you from falling asleep, especially if you're already a wound-up 6 year old little boy! It can make you feel warm and comfortable, or hot and stifled. It can make you feel nice, fresh and cool - or it can make you feel like parts of you are going to freeze off. Color can be your friend or your enemy. And really, the earth can "shed some light" on us to help decide every color scheme. Here's how:
What direction does your room face - North, South, East or West? It makes a difference. If you've got the sun pounding down on your bedroom window, you'll want to stay away from warm colors, such as reds, yellows, oranges, etc. They'll make you feel too hot. Opt for cooler colors, such as blues, turquoise, cool creams... think mediterranean beach style here. In a room facing North, that doesn't get much light, you'll opt more for warmer colors and brighter colors: yellow, bright pinks, golden hues. Here's a most interesting link about how color affects us psychologicallly:

http://keelynet.com/biology/coloraff.htm

That's all I guess... Hope I helped you choose your color ;-)

You're always welcome to email and I'd enjoy knowing what color scheme you chose...!

Q. So I'm sitting here in my bedroom realizing it's the blandest thing on the planet. Does anybody have any ideas for personalizing a 16 year old girl's bedroom without it looking over crowded? Keeping in mind that I can't just up and paint it without facing the wrath of the parents.

A. Hanging a mirror will brighten your room and make it appear larger.

I want to decorate my daughters bedroom. Any ideas on how to tie horses into it without her outgrowing to quik
Q. We just moved and I wanted to make my daughter's room more personal. She loves horses and the color blue. I've thought about those murals that you can put up but her room is very small and I am not very creative. I really need HELP with this one. I don't want her to outgrow it by say next year or two. I want the room to grow with her..............any ideas ?

A. I don't think she'll out grow horses. Try renting a projector from your local library. If you find a picture you like you can use the projector to project it on the wall to trace it. Paint it as usual. If you want it to grow with her, make sure you leave other things in her room removeable or changeable.

I would find some intresting ribbons(the reward kinds to tack to the walls, blue comforter.. and things of that nature. You can always work around the horse on the wall.

Another thing you could try is doing the horse with different colored flowers and leaving the walls a neutral color. Then you can change the colors of other things in her room ie cutains bed spreads, as she grows.

What are some good ideas for a boy's and girl's crib bedding set?
Q. I have a boy who's 18 months and a girl who's 3 months. They will be sharing a room, and I wanted to decorate their rooms as a set. For instance, my husband and I thought of Peter Pan & Tinkerbell, Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Dora & Diego, Princess & Prince, or Princess & Knights/Dragons. I'm still undecided and would like some suggestions. Let me know your opinions, and if you can think of any more boy & girl bedroom sets please let me know. Thank you!

A. How about something that would work with both..bumble bees/nature that sort of thing to have a calmer looking room.
You have covered so many, I cannot think of any pairs without dating myself..pebbles and bambam, alvin and the chipmunks have girls on them but dont know their names,

Interior Design Help - my bedroom is very long and narrow, feels imbalanced, how do I decorate/place furniture?

Q. Hi, I live in a cabin that has long narrow bedrooms built into the side of the main structure. The room I sleep in is very long and narrow, and has a small window looking out on the long wall facing outside. I don't know what I can do to balance out the room, especially with a queen size bed that takes up the entire length of the short wall - leaving about 2 feet for a small bedside table. Any ideas to make it more cozy and feel less like a hallway? If I can figure out how to send a pic I will - and if you help I will make sure to give you ten points!!! Much appreciated...

A. Divide and conquer is the trick to making a large space cozy. Working to section it off sometimes something as simple as a folding screen at the bottom of your bed will do that for you. Or move the bed further into the room put the screen behind the bed and put your desk behind it. Large bold prints help - along with large scattered decorative pieces. Make one section with seating - love seat and sofa table or 2 rockers or easy chairs facing.

http://www.decorpad.com/photos/2008/09/22/ecf0267cbc78.jpg

Another suggestion is 1 long or 2 tall bookcases placed on the short walls as dividers. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/inspiration/inspiration-using-a-bookcase-as-a-room-divider-080938 best to have them open back to allow light through.

Interior Design Issue - Awkward Space - HELP!?
Q. Try to picture these dimensions, and please give me ideas...My living room and family room connect (with an archway inbetween) and the rooms are both incredibly narrow and small. The family room connects with the kitchen/breakfast area which is hardwood flooring, and the LR/DR is all carpeting. There is little wall space due to windows and a fireplace....I can't seem to do anything with these spaces - no matter how I arrange furniture, I can't get a comfortable seating area with a TV in either room without it looking strange. I'm at the point where almost everything is removed from both rooms and I'm staring at empty space. Any design ideas from professionals or people who know what they're talking about when it comes to decorating is needed - please don't send links because I've googled this topic to death! Thanks!

A. I had the same problem in my house. the living room and dining room are both only 11' wide and the living room is13' long and the dining room is only 8' long. the 2 rooms are divided by an archway that cuts the floor space up because the archway wall extends about 2' in on both sides.I too have a huge fireplace (takes up almost an entire wall) and large double windows in both rooms, as well as a small piano window on each side of the fireplace leaving very little open wallspace for furniture arranging.after much frustration and trial and error, i solved my seating arrangement dilema by purchasing a small sectional sofa shaped like an "L". the small part of the L has no back and looks like a chaise lounge attached to a love seat (which forms the long part of the L). i put this in the corner of the wall and archway wall. the backless part of the sectional extends out about a foot past the archway wall, and it can be sat on facing either room. I placed a leather ottoman that also serves as a coffee table (i have wooden butler trays on it when i use it as a table) in the L of the sectional sofa. The ottoman also has storage area under the seat..
I placed my flatscreen LCD tv over the fireplace mantle and covered it with a large hinged mirror that can be raised and lowered. the sound system and stereo, dvd player is hidden in one side of the archway (each side of the archway has a built in glass fronted cabinet). the only other seating I have in the living room is a leather club chair which is very comfortable but not large. I can seat 7 people in the living room when I have to: 3 on the sectional, 1 in the club chair, 2 on the long leather ottoman.
I placed a large potted yucca in each of the narrow alcoves on either side of the fireplace and put a small uplight behind each pot. I have 1 small side table beside the club chair with a table lamp on it.
in the dining room, i got rid of my square table and purchased a round one(a lot more practical for the small space that has a 16 " leaf enabling me to seat 6 there when the leaf is in. I chose a pub style table that is about 10" higher than a standard dining table--because i also have an open bar counter that is the same height and i can use the pub chairs at both the counter and the table. i keep 4 chairs around the table and 2 at the bar. when i have company, i put the leaf in and pull over the 2 from the bar. besides a tall potted palm, thats all i have in this room because there is virtually no wallspace to put anything against. One wall is the archway to the living room, the other is the bar counter and doorway to the kitchen, the other is the archway to the bedrooms hallway, and the 4th wall is almost entirely window.

but even in these small connected rooms i can seat 13 people total when i need to; 7 in living room, 6 in dining room.

i also went with a monchromatic color sceme for the rooms, a medium tan color on the walls (same in both rooms) with dark espresso trim, crown moldings, and woodwork. My fireplace is stucco and i painted it terra cotta red for a nice contrast of color and texture. I have dark walnut hardwood floors. my sectional is beige, the club chair is dark brown (with a hint of red) leather ,as is the large ottoman. the pub table is dark oak and the pub chairs have their seats and backs upholstered in tan and brick-red striped fabric.
The living room has one wall (across from the fireplace) done in wood framed leather panelling that goes about half way up the wall.

I really strive to keep this area clutter-free. My only storage is in the built-in archway cabinets and the ottoman and a single drawer in the side table and a wicker basket on a shelf under the drawer. on the fireplace mantle, i have a few pieces of rustic mexican pottery . on the wall with leather panelling, above the panelling i have a row of 5 small square abstract prints framed in copper. Over the mantle i have a large (2' x 4') mirror framed in bronze, copper, and small red ceramic tiles. this mirror hides my LCD tv screen. The fireplace hearth is done in terra cotta tile. I have wood framed bamboo shutters on all the windows which i custom made to fit.

Teen Bedroom Decorating Ideas?
Q. I am fourteen and over the summer I am painting my room and completely redecorating. I have a long twin bed, a half dresser/ half TV stand thing, a huge bookshelf, two narrow (but tall) closets and a ceiling that is high on one end and slopes downward. I window that is almost ceiling to floor (on the downward slope side). Right now, my walls are lavendar and there are princesses on it. It has to go. I LOVE Vampire Diaries and Twilight and wanted to do something that has to do with that but my room is really small and crowded. Any ideas? For just about everything in the room. I keep getting my ideas vetoed. Please help!!!

A. I'm a teen too, and planning out a new bedroom. I used PB Teen for lots of ideas, but i honestly think you wouldn't want Vampire Diaries and Twilight in your room in a few years. The first thing you should do, is pick out a bed comforter. Once you find one you like, then you can choose the wall color and some of the accessories you want for your room. It should all match the colors in the bed comforter in some way. There's some pretty affordable stuff on overstock.com as well, if you need to save.
Hope I Helped : )

How can I decorate a pink room?

Q. my room is a medium toned pink
i don't want to repaint it, but i am also trying to redo my room
what colors would go with pink?
i don't want it to look juvinile

thanks

A. Pink doesn't have to look juvenile and there are ways to achieve nice rich looks. In fact, pink is a very good color to have in a bedroom, as it is very relaxing for the spirit and soul, not to mention the mind. Here are some color schemes that will work well with your pink walls:

For an oppulent look: pink, white & gold
For a contemporary look: pink, white & silver
For a relaxing look: pink, dark brown & off-white
For an art deco look: pink, black & silver
For a retro look: pink, white & black
For an airy feel: pink, lime green & white
For a country feel: pink, light green & yellow
For chic New York look: pink, brown & turquoise

Pink is a great color and is no longer confined to being used for kids.

As for my favorite above: Pink, white & gold for the oppulent look. If you need ideas for this look, just send me an email and I'll send you more ideas.

Whatever you do, make sure you decide on the mood you want the room to have, then run with that. And keep in mind that the best thing to do when deciding on decorating is to prepare a room that makes you smile each and every time you walk into it!

Interior Decorators for One Bedroom in Astoria New York?
Q. Hey!

I just wanted to preface this with a statement: I have next to no decorating vision.

So! I am looking to hire someone to come in and tell me what to do with my bedroom.
Its only going to be 1 room in a rental apartment so I wonder if interior decorators even bother with that.

Any who I don't even know where to start looking for something like that. Anyone know of a person or company who could do that?

Thanks!

A. I'm sure you could find local firms online and I'm sure someone would be willing to charge you to decorate your bedroom. I'm also sure that if you gave us a few more details on what the room is like and what sorts of things you like and need that you will get enough ideas to do it yourself. I wouldn't consider it worth the money to pay someone to do it.
Y/A decorating people (myself included) love to give ideas away for free!

I need ideas on how to paint my boys bedroom?
Q. I have 2 boys (ages 7 & 4) that share a fairly large bedroom. I want to paint it with some cool design that they'll like now and when they get older. Any suggestions would be great.

A. The best ideas I've found for boys bedrooms are http://boysthemebedrooms.com/. There are some great themes that you can do by purchasing or making the items shown. I also found this site (http://www.decorating-kids-rooms.net/bedroom-themes-for-children.html) which talks specifically about "How To Create Bedroom Themes For Children That Grow With Your Child".

Right now it seems to be that for your 4 and 7 year olds, a pirate theme would be fantastic. Maybe paint a wall mural of a beach and sunset on one wall. Then as they grow older they can add things to it - like kids playing sports on the beach, pirate treasure in the sand, or just enjoying the peaceful scene.

You know your kids and their interests - have a ball with them and let them decide. My daughter loves pirates and Egyptians. So I'm focusing on the treasure and tying the two interests together that way.

Does anyone have any ideas on a new room?

Q. I would like to have a hammock hang from the ceiling and have a tye dye wall. Any ideas?

A. Okay, so I looked online, and you can paint a wall tie-dye by dipped twisted cloth into paint and applying to the wall.
Look here:
http://www.ehow.com/how_6027478_paint-tie-dye-room.html

Also, you can "dip a paint brush and splattering paint on the walls for a unique, tie-dye look to decorate a teen girl's or boy's room. Within this theme, tie-dye sheets, using bleach on a color sheet, to add more creativity. Paint the carpet, either one solid color or several different colors, by taping off sections and painting them with fabric paint" for a Tie-Dye themed room.

Read more: Bedroom Ideas & Color Schemes for Teens | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/list_6362945_bedroom-ideas-color-schemes-teens.html#ixzz1PB9GX3Hh

In my opinion, it is best to have no more than three colors, but that is really up to you.

There are some good tie-dye decorating ideas here also:
http://teensthemes.com/tie-dye-hippie-theme-bedrooms.html

You can also search for wallpaper, on amazon and other places.

As for the hammock, you would have to check if the ceiling can hold the weight of you in the hammock - I know my ceiling wouldn't!
I found some sites:

I'm redoing my room anddd need help?
Q. i'm redoing it in orange (;
so does anyone know any ideas to make it lookk cute?
or websites with stufff?
ahh sorry,it is a bedroom,
and i'm not painting the walls.

A. make sure you get the right tone of orange as it could turn out a disaster. If you are going to paint the walls orange make your accessories complementary not all orange.Dark wood complements bright orange as does chocolate brown with hints of apple green. look at natural occurrences of orange in nature. The fruit orange has a lovely green stem with wooden tree. Carrots have a lovely green top. a great paint colour is Carmen Miranda by Dulux. Cream also works well with orange. you didn't mention if it was bedroom. if you cant paint the walls have an orange rug or pillows. or a bowl of fresh oranges little hints of orange can be just as effective. Have fun decorating

What are some creative ways to decorate my room?

Q. I need ideas to decorate my room. I can't paint and I want some ideas that involve music. I like the environment and would like a website with ideas from recycled items. Thanks.

A. Try having different shades of green on your wall & putting black music notes on it (Use stickers or hire a professional to paint your room as you wish). Or you could just paint your walls all green (any shade/etc. you like) and put a lot of your favorite band posters on the wall.
Maybe like this or so:

That environment-feeling to it. Just put a little more YOU to it. :) You could also try seeing some room tours on Youtube and see how others decorated their rooms in a way and maybe you'll like it and get inspired to do what they did!
Good luck on decorating your room! xoxo

Thanks!

How can I decorate my bedroom so that it looks like an autumn forest?
Q. I am redecorating my bedroom soon and I am hoping to style it so that it looks like an autumn forest.
What sort of colours/patterns would you suggest (any photos would be very helpful). It does not bother me if things are not completely coordinated and I'd like my room to have a more rustic, old-fashioned feel. How can I do this?
Thank you.

A. that sounds like an amazing idea..i love the fall aslo..well what you could do is stain alot of things..brown stained wood would look nice..brown is a good color to use for autumn..its the darker, less bold color to use..but you also want colors like red(not too bright of course, think of leaves), orange, yellow, and possibly just a little bit of a light, faded green..it would just be a matter of choosing the colors to go in the right areas to balance it all out..you could paint the walls brown(sounds bad i know but wait), with white trim on like windows, molding and floor paneling, and then maybe if you have anything wood in your room you can stain it brown, and then get things like red orange and yellow bed set/pillows, those colored lamps, night stands, curtains, pictures making the trim of different items be different colors..get a rug...the best colors to stick to tho besides the redish orangish and yellowish ones..are brown, tan, and dark red/maybe maroonish..i also like purple..it goes well with the other colors...but what you could do is buy stickers..they have these stickers that stick on your wall and there shaped as leaves..its pretty cool..ill leave a link to show u an example..you could try to put leaves on other things too like the side/top of a desk or your headboard..think of halloween..pumpkins, hay, corn, black..goodluck..i think its a great idea..i might steal it :] lol

Need help in redecorating my room?
Q. I think I'm getting new furniture in my room and getting my walls painted. I'd like to keep it girly, but more than anything, I want it to be summery and beachy. If you guys find any furniture (like beds, dressers, nightstands, vanities), paint colors, catalogs/books I can look at, or anything, I'd love to see them.
Oh, and I'm in my early 20s

Any decorating ideas for a teenage bedroom?

Q. I really wanna decorate my room. It's so boring. I live in an apartment, which sucks because I can't paint it! Does anyone have any ideas on how to decorate it? Plus, I'm on a low-budget!
Also, does anyone know where to get damask wall stickers?

A. You're lucky, I've recently been introduced to a new style of wall designing perfect for tenants who don't own their space/room/apartment. No need to paint or worry about wall stains from glues. The designs are decals pressed up to the walls. Very easy to setup, too!

Visit this website:
http://www.dezignmywall.com/

They've a VERY wide range of designs. From kiddie, to teens, to nature, to grownup, oh, so many!!!

You can visit them on facebook too:

Does it look ok to have brown wood blinds with white window casings?
Q. I am currently building a house and love the look of window casings, but I don't want white blinds. The casings will be painted white. I want 3 inch brown wood blinds, but not if it looks funny. The house we are building is based on the arts and crafts style of architecture and has wood exposed beams in the kitchen. Any homedecorator ideas would be great!

A. Absolutely! The #1 rule for decorating - go with what you like!

But if you have a hard time visualizing it (which makes it impossible to determine whether you like it or not!), I'd suggest a few things:

Go Online: The most useful tool I can recommend is BlindCrafter.com's Virtual Decorator (you can find it on the homepage, or directly by visiting: http://www.blindcrafter.com/decorating_tools/iwt.cfm ). This is a terrific tool that allows you to "virtually decorate" a room that is similar to your in nature (bedroom, bath, etc), wall color, molding color, and shade color. So you can design a room with your colors and see what it might look like!

The internet is also a great resource for ideas - Blindcrafter.com and many other sites have tons of room shots that will give you an idea of what works and what doesn't.

Magazines: Thumb through home decorating magazines and find looks you like -- I'll bet you'll find the wood blinds accented by white moldings. It's definitely a look that works.

I hope this helps. And remember, go with your designing instincts- it's what will make your house a home!

Happy Designing!

How should I decorate my bedroom?
Q. I am a male teenager.
I wanted to paint it white and stick art canvas on the wall but my Mum doesn't like the idea of all white. I am into art, and music, I also like nature, birds and trees ect. The rooms quite small.
I like the colour black and white when the two colours are together.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

A. A teen room makeover may be accomplished with a new coat of paint, rearranging the furniture and adding some new accessories and lighting.

Painting can have the biggest impact for the least amount of money and sets the tone of your teen’s room design.
Bedding is another very personal choice for your teenager. He might want an animal print bedspread or something in black velvet.Adding accents will give the room more interest and personality. A few fun ideas for accent items include funky chairs, pillows, area rugs and wall art.

How to decorate a bedroom?

Q. I would like to have alot of things on the walls and alot of things to look at. I am not married so I would like it to be more of a male room.I really dont have a taste just looking for new suggestions. Thanks

A. Hey,
here are some ideas :

-Make a collage in your room. Like put your favourite pictures together and format it into a nice place. (it adds colour and personality!)
-Add a lamp to make your room look cozy and calm
-Add a white or black, or pink rug to make it look cozy , calm and warm
-Put posters on your wall. Like your favourite singers, actresses/actors.
-Decorate your walls with pictures of yourself with your friends, etc.
-You can have a dresser with a mirror and you can put all your perrfume, lotion, nail polish, etc placed neatly on top to add some colour in your room! :D
-Spray a bit of febreeze or air freshener to make your room smell nicer and cooler! I do that all the time lol. It's calms everything down :)
- On your wall, just add anything that describes you
-Hang some artwork!
-Have a vase and fill it with flowers! :)
-if you gave a stuff animal, place it sitting somewhere, can be in a corner.
-if you want to add more colour, then open your closet door so all your clothes stand out!

good luck and i hope i helped! :)

good bedroom ideas for redoing my room?

Q. im 13 and am going to be redoing my room for the first time i have some good ideas but still having trouble with space so i have a reach in closet but i really want the closet exsactly from i carley new room and i have a pretty small room. i just really want some good space organizing ideas.

A. Well I am sixteen and I am re doing my room too. Well we just moved to a new house and I will be decorating it. So I googled Modern Bedrooms and a lot of the pictures online show dark color rooms like gray walls or dark blue walls ect. i wanted something more warm. but not too summery. so i found a perfect picture of a modern room light brown walls with dark brown furniture it all doesnt have to be brown. i like white and blue so i might add that to just mix it up. google modern bedrooms and see if you like my room idea. it all depends on your style my sister is going to leave her room mostlly white. white walls white bed covers etc. weird to me but whatever your style is i guess.

How can I decorate a white apartment?
Q. I have a white wall and ceiling apartment but I have a hard time finding things to decorate it with. My couch is like a gray color and I have some pillows that are brown with blue and green decorations. What can I put up on those white walls to bring out some color? Also, my room is also white and my bed setting is wood. What kind of comforter should I get that would bring some color into the room?

A. For your bedroom I'd try to get a color that would really pop against the white walls and wood in your furniture. Depending on your style you could do primary colors like red or blue, which would go great for accent pieces (i.e. pillows, lamps, curtains) to make your room vibrant. Or you could do a monogramatic look w/one specific color and do different shades/tints of it, like cobalt blue, gray blue, baby blue, etc. It could create some depth in your room.

For your living room I'd try to do the same thing. Being as you're in an apartment you may have restrictions on painting, so I'd try to incorporate color through other ways like rugs, artwork, etc. I got some of my best ideas from this website, http://blog.forrent.com/category/apartment-decorating-tips

Hope this helps!

List of household items and furniture I will need. Decorating ideas. New apartment and buying all new stuff?

Q. I am looking if someone knows of some sort of new home checklist or something. I am relocating from Michigan to Texas and instead of doing a huge truckload across the country. I am selling everything here and going to purchase new stuff when I get down there. It is just a one bedroom apartment for my three year old son and myself. I just want a basic list, I want to start planning and picking things out (the move isn't until May), I kind of feel like I am forgetting some things. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, if anyone has any decorating ideas or links to furniture, I really love purple and kind of want to do a "purple" theme...any suggestions would be great!

Thanks in advance :)
That is a good point! I like that idea for the purple accents in the living room. I really like black and white...I'd op for black furniture because I have a three year old lol and the walls will be white (not by choice), but I can picture white and purple accents with the black and it looks pretty to me :) the dining room sits off of the living room, so I can get a black kitchen table with some sort of purple centerpiece to tie it all together.

A. If you are moving to a new house and want to decorate ever corner with the best furniture and other stuffs then online stores would be the best choice for you. I prefer buy online and as you will get less time to waste so online stores will give you option to choose from various available designs and colors. Also, you will be able to choose at your home and can save lots of time as well as money. Joss & Main is one of the well-known stores; hope you will find all the stuffs.

How can I decorate my bedroom with chocolate brown carpet?
Q. We are building a new home and my father really wanted chocolate brown carpet. We will only have carpet in the bedrooms, and it does look really pretty, but it is concerning. I need tips on decorating without making it look tacky. I wanted my bedroom to have a modern feel. I wanted to buy either black or white bedroom furniture. The walls will be painted a creamy beige color. Any good tips or advice out there? Please help!!

A. I would say use brown, white and turquoise with white furniture. For a wall color I would go for a light turquoise or blue; for baseboards and trip go white and for furniture I would go white with turquoise; for accessories use a variety of brown an white and blue to tie everything together. This will help break up the dark color of the carpet and give you a well put together look. A friend on mine writes a design blog and she suggested this page for more ideas:

What is good furniture for a bedroom that looks like a living room.?
Q. I want to redo my bedroom to make it look like a sitting room type thing until it's time for bedtime when I convert my futon into a bed. I would like some Japanese style things but I don't want it to be obvious that it's japanese styled. I also want it to look very modern.

A. Hi Bananas,
My suggest for your room to achieve what you want is as you said.To keep your room to the minimalist look. This look will capture the simplistic look and also the Japanese look without being too strong a statement. I would look into some Feng Shui design. I would also be aware of the look in your room becoming to uninviting or stark. ( cold appearance ) If you balance all the components, that being pattern texture and colors, your results will be pleasing to you. I have seen some great decorating ideas at Pottery Barn. This would be under Natural Inspiring section. Nature colors will work well for your room. Greens, Tans etc. Think ' Zen ' when you decorate :o)
