Bedroom design help (teen girl)?

queenfanfo

I am possibly getting my room re-done this summer (for my birthday) and was wanting something modern but cool. I already have a few ideas in my head, but the thing is, I don't want to be costing my mum and dad a heap! I will also be contributing money to the furniture and things, so they won't be paying for everything, but it would be really good if I could get everything at a reasonable price. My ideas were:

-A double bed with storage. (This one isn't really an idea because I do need a new bed.)

-A ball chair. (They are cool and look comfortable! They are quite expensive though..)

-A wall sticker of Freddie Mercury or any inspiring quotes or song lyrics.

-Some kind of wardrobe that isn't too chunky and is not wooden.

-A whiteboard or something? Anything that I can kind of use to put on reminders and photos, etc.

-A funky bedside lamp.

I would like to have a completely new room from what I have right now, which is all girly. I feel like I need a more grown-up room, but still one that isn't too old for me and is modern. I am obsessed with the band Queen so any Queen related products that I could put in my new room would be a bonus!
Also, I am sorry if I have come across as picky and fussy and spoilt, but I just want to make sure that my room ends up perfect, and I really need help finding websites and stores in the UK to buy these things for my room. Plus, I have saved up since my last birthday to get money for the room and am still saving at the moment.
Any help would be appreciated. Links are good as well. Thanks :)

Oh, and the colour theme would probably be black and another colour, but I still need to decide on the other colour.

Answer
Designing a room is really fun. If you want a grown up look, go for neutral colors. You said you like black, which is a start. I recommend coffee house colors, like chocolate browns or off-white. You can keep it youthful by adding stylish decoration such as framed posters, plants and draped cloths over your furniture to add a splash of color. I myself an a fan of reds and purples. A white board could be a good idea as long as it doesn't become cluttered with notes. If you want to stay organized, I recommend a planner or a decorative notepad. A few throw pillows are nice, but don't cover your bed in them like some girls do. A nightstand is a good idea, not just for a lamp but it's a good place to store things. I have a friend who loves interior design and goes to places like thrift stores for some things if saving money is your thing. You'd be surprised how much a new paint job can change the look of a bookshelf or jewelry box. (Don't buy something that smells bad. You want your room to be comforting, not worrisome.) The important thing is that you get the most out of your space. Arrange everything in a way that is convenient and easy to clean up. Mirrors are another way to open it up to add the illusion of more space. I would also recommend looking into getting a desk. Homework goes a lot more smoothly when you have an area that has everything you need.

I am digging zebra print. I have a comforter picked out but I am open to new ideas. I also need some Inspiration. So if you leave a good answer I will be a fan :)

Answer
If you have a black and white zebra comforter picked out, you need to choose another color to accent with. Pink, orange, turquoise, lime, purple, red...all look good. Paint your walls a light shade of whatever color you choose then start adding that color around your room in accents like pillows, throws, area rugs, candles, flowers, art, and lamps. I wouldn't add too much more of the zebra print, just a little here and there, to keep the bed your focal point. Here are some
pics that might help you visualize better:
You could also paint your room brown like this one if you want a more serene room:

Somethings you might want to add:

Find accent pillows and area rugs with just a little of the zebra print as a border on it, so as not to overwhelm the bed and use black or a very subtle black and white drapery.

Hope this helped. What you want to keep in mind, I think, is that too much zebra print wouldn't look good. If it's on the bed, use it sparingly around the room.
