Does anyone have any tips for a new bedroom design?

Sarah Lee

So I'm changing up my room to be more of my personality and AGE. I'm 13 (don't worry, this is my mom's profile) and I had my room for my whole life. That means its all pink with disney princesses EVERYWHERE. I just want some tips on how to make it beautiful. Sorry, I can't post any pics, but I have one big window that's in the middle of my wall opposite of the door, my room is medium sized, I have one twin bed, I need a desk area thing for homework. I have a dresser with a TV on top of it, and a huge shelf with a lot of toys on it. My closet is a walk-in by the way.

Answer
I am trying to visualize your room. A window - no idea what size, a twin bed. Put your desk under the window. Position your bed on the wall to the right of the door - long side to the right wall and head board to the far wall. Place your dresser on the left wall. Find a way to hang the TV from the wall/ceiling opposite of your bed (door wall).
sort through your toys. You are probably too old for most of them. donate or if you can not part with them wrap them up and store them in the attic or basement. Paint your ceiling sky blue - add fluffy clouds if you or your Mom are a little bit artistic. Paint the bottom half of your walls lime green. Install a chair rail. If you like an ultra contemporary look install flat metal stock 1 1/2" to 2" wide. If you want a more traditional look install dark stained wood. Paint the upper portion your wall medium blue, hot pink, lavender, dark purple or soft yellow. Choose lamps and light fixtures to suit the feel of the room. If you are going contemporary use lots of shiny metal. Dress your bed with bedding that reflects the colors of your room. Add been bag chairs, sling chairs and fuzzy rugs. Lots of throw pillows on the bed. Use floating shelves on the walls for display. If you choose a contemporary theme then look for black and white architectural photographs framed in flat black or shiny metal.

Query teen room design. Keep in mind that you want to be happy with your room until you are old enough to get your own place. Think ahead. If you really plan your room and promise your Mom not to ask for another make over she will be more willing to fork over the $$ to re-do your room.

The secret is to plan. Make scale drawings. Collect color chips. Look for drapery and bedding. What room will you be happy living in for the next 5 to 10 years?

Good luck

How to redecorate a small bedroom on a budget?

sara

I am a teenage girl and I fully redecorated my room 2 years ago, so I don't want to go all out this time. But I am looking for some small cheap ways to spruce up my bedroom. I am already saving up for a new comforter set. It's $40 and I'm hoping it's the most expensive thing I'll end up buying. So does anybody have any ideas of ways to inexpensively semi-redecorate my bedroom? Keeping in mind that I can't rearrange my furniture because my room is set up so that the only arrangement that works is the way I currently have it.

Answer
Easy and inexpensive to add decor in a contemporary style using white and your accent color, best to pull a color from your bedding or choose an earth tone that coordinates with all colors such as blue-green/turquoise.

Cut a large rectangle from box cardboard or use a poster board.

thread both ends of a twisty-tie (paper covered wire used to close bread) thru the holes, make a loop,
turn cardboard over and twist the ends together.
Cut out or print different size pics of all the things you love, glue pics slightly over the edge of the other-overlapping so you can't see the cardboard underneath, you can add photos, words, captions, quotes...
Turn over and weight down til dry to prevent curling.
